Delivery slots

How are people managing to get online supermarket delivery slots?

I previously used Ocado, Sainsbury's and Tesco's.

Nothing available not even click and collect.

I'm staying at my mum's at the moment but will be going back to my house in a few weeks time permanently with my 2 year old toddler. No slots available even for 2-3 weeks times

I really don't want to leave the house with him. He has tantrums when is in the shopping trolley and I can't walk him as he won't observe social distancing and rolls around on the floor. I also don't want to risk getting ill and having to look after him alone.

No partner to help.

Any ideas on the best times to get the slots?

Lucinda - my only ‘evidence’ is with my eyes (empty shelves consistently left empty) and the newspaper reports they made more money the first week than Christmas sales, which is hardly rocket science to comprehend.
They can crack on, I have no issue with them, but a lot of people will learn from this and use local businesses as they can be relied upon when the shit hits the fan, no pun intended.

How is anyone getting a Sainsbury’s slot? I just get a message saying they’re prioritising the vulnerable the same as Waitrose. We are self isolating and starting to run out of the basics.

Apolloanddaphne · 01/04/2020 08:41

If you have a car and are driving home I would go and do a big shop before you leave your DMs and leave him with her while you do this. Then drive all your shopping home with you.

Spam88 · 01/04/2020 08:42

I got a Tesco click and collect slot around 3am (they're released at midnight I think). Also checked sometime during the day on Sunday and there were delivery slots available for all times the next day, so I think they're adding them as they increase capacity.

I get that, I just don't see how it's the supermarket's doing or that it makes them "dicks".

Morrison's food boxes if you are desperate. £35 including delivery but they arrive via DPD so you aren't joining the massive queue for slots. The downside is that you can't change what's in the box, it's set contents.
We've had a box delivered and then local shop and greengrocers to top up.

Enidcat5 · 01/04/2020 08:51

First thing in the morning, for 3 weeks in advance. They are there you just need to keep checking.

DDiva · 01/04/2020 08:51

I got a sainsburys slot yesterday early morning for tomorrow, they are releasing edcesscspots to pass holders. I'm not vulnerable but my h is (not extremely vulnerable) so I'm glad I dont have to put us/him at risk. I guess so much depends on the local situation......

DDiva · 01/04/2020 08:52

That should have been excess!

Scout2016 · 01/04/2020 08:53

I tried to order stuff from Sainsbury's for my parents and was told I can't have a slot as they have been provided with a list by the government of who is vulnerable, and I'm not on it. Fair enough. Tipped my dad off and he managed to get a slot as he's in his 70s. Apparently this is only England so far - welsh government have been slow to get a list out so my older relatives there are still struggling. Not sure about Scotland.

RC1511 · 01/04/2020 08:55

Tesco seem to be releasing slots at random times so you have to keep checking. Download the app and check regularly. The slots seem to get snapped up quick though!

Scout2016 · 01/04/2020 08:56

What I don't know with the Sainsburys vulnerable list is how an elderly person with no internet or IT skills benefits. My gran is in her 90s but other family trying to order for her are rejected as not on the list. I guess it recognises email addresses if you've shopped with them before, which most of us have.

BlossomGem · 01/04/2020 09:10

I checked in the middle of the night and all new slots had gone already. I checked Asda yesterday early afternoon and there were lots of slots for this week suddenly available so worth checking regularly.

Both me and DH stayed up last night until 1.30am trying to get a delivery or click and collect slot at either of nearest supermarkets. We couldn't get anything. We spent most of the time in a queue.
I'm more worried about my parents as my dad is in the final stages of chemotherapy and he's the only one who can drive. They live 5 hrs away from us so I can't get anything for them. I've signed them up to the vulnerable scheme. If they can't get a delivery shop I'm terrified they'll be forced to go shopping.

Arrowfanatic · 01/04/2020 09:41

I managed to get a click & collect at Tesco by going on at 1.30am. Its 3 weeks away and not my usual store.

Mauhea · 01/04/2020 09:50

I've noticed lately that Tesco have slots available for the next day that open up around lunch time. Definitely worth checking throughout the day. Also managed to snag a Morrisons Food Box this morning, checked the site at about 9am and the queue was only 11 minutes. Only day available for delivery next Thursday but as Tesco delivered last night this works out quite nicely!

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 01/04/2020 09:59

waitrose rapid (v restricted geographically, but brilliant if available)

0htooooodles · 01/04/2020 10:01

I managed to get a ASDA slot, but doesn't seem like it'll be worthwhile as I've done a full shop and everything in my basket is out of stock, in fact their whole site seems to be out of stock 🧐

Fallsballs · 01/04/2020 10:13

Lucinda - I believe a lot of money and psychology goes into the shopping ‘experience’ with the big stores. I don’t think it was a complete accident for them to leave a vast swathe of empty shelves. Stock could have been moved around and notices put up. They chose not to, they chose to create the well photographed scene of people standing in empty isles and subsequently encouraged a culture of fear and panic.
I don’t believe for one minute this could have been avoided and they are treating us like fools, staying up all night looking at the internet delivery slots and panicking we can’t feed our kids.
They earn dick status for that or maybe more unethical tossers.

This is my opinion and I’m not in a great mood atm.

Luc1nda · 01/04/2020 10:33

Ok. My experience was that the newspapers and social media were sharing very carefully selected photos of empty shelves when in fact our local shops were well-stocked. The toilet roll thing was whipped up by the press and public rather than shops deliberately not selling stock they had hidden away.

Greenscissors · 01/04/2020 11:39

I've been checking periodically and got a Sainsbury's slot yesterday morning for this week - there were lots, so maybe they had just been released (I have a delivery pass).

Subsequently got an email about them - but that said they won't be notifying that way now due to increasing availability...

LGY1 · 01/04/2020 11:43

I looked at about 11pm and the new day hadn’t appeared on the Asda website.
Woke up at 2:30 for a wee (pregnant) and checked. The new day had appeared by all delivery and c&c slots were gone.
Sounds like we need to be on at midnight!!

marjorie2607 · 01/04/2020 12:07

Got a message from Waitrose to say that as one of their loyal customers they believe from their records that I am over 70 and therefore qualify for a delivery slot. I got a delivery at the weekend.
I have shopped in store once or twice a week for years and always use my Waitrose partnership card. Just shows it pays to be loyal.
