Delivery slots

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 01/04/2020 06:32

How are people managing to get online supermarket delivery slots?

I previously used Ocado, Sainsbury's and Tesco's.

Nothing available not even click and collect.

I'm staying at my mum's at the moment but will be going back to my house in a few weeks time permanently with my 2 year old toddler. No slots available even for 2-3 weeks times

I really don't want to leave the house with him. He has tantrums when is in the shopping trolley and I can't walk him as he won't observe social distancing and rolls around on the floor. I also don't want to risk getting ill and having to look after him alone.

No partner to help.

Any ideas on the best times to get the slots?

I would put a two yr old in a carrier on my back if I had to take them. Or take them in a well cleaned trolley, or strapped in a pushchair.

Reallynowdear · 01/04/2020 12:20

I'm saddened by so many of my friends having this conversation when not one of them needs these slots, they just want them.

I don't know what the answer is though.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 01/04/2020 20:05

Stock could have been moved around and notices put up. They chose not to, they chose to create the well photographed scene of people standing in empty isles and subsequently encouraged a culture of fear and panic.
I don’t believe for one minute this could have been avoided and they are treating us like fools, staying up all night looking at the internet delivery slots and panicking we can’t feed our kids.
They earn dick status for that or maybe more unethical tossers.

Absolute bollocks. These sort of posts make me so angry. The supermarkets have been working flat out in order to get stock in and on the shelves. They have said all along there is enough to go round if people don't panic buy. All the staff in them have been working their asses off (risking their own health) to make sure there is as much as possible. They have been threatened, sworn at, abused, literally had stock ripped out their hands as they have been trying to fill the shelves. But hey lets blame them. Lets not assume it might just be the same dicks that all went out for a jolly Mothers day weekend, completely ignoring any advice to stay at home, that are the selfish ones.

OP whilst delivery slots are difficult to come by, click and collect slots.are being increased so you may get something that way.

I have found the local shops much better. I ring the greengrocer, butcher and local Spar and give my orders. I pay over the phone. Finally I drive over and open my car door and a member of staff will put the bags / boxes in the car for me. It’s a little more expensive but no unexpected substitutes and local shops are well stocked.

LastTrainEast · 01/04/2020 20:55

they are treating us like fools, staying up all night looking at the internet delivery slots and panicking we can’t feed our kids. Didn't you hear about the pandemic? It's been on the news.

Hundreds of thousands more people are ordering onlne than ever before. There are only so many vans/drivers so a limited number of slots. Tesco (and presumably the others) are taking on 1000s of new staff, but they can't produce the refrigerated vans from thin air.

As others said try click and collect because expanding that is easier.

Also try other supermarkets.

Tesco

Iceland

sainsbury

Ocado

Morrisons

Morrisons also do a food box and other places - sometimes local are starting that.

Morrisons Food boxes

Maybe MN could maintain a list of these and new ones as they spring up.

Lolwhat · 01/04/2020 20:58

I am vulnerable but not to covid-19 I wait until midnight, log on, sit in an hour long queue and pray that I get one

LastTrainEast · 01/04/2020 21:00

Most of them will put up their new slots at midnight, but if they take on a new driver then new slots will appear in his area at once.

Sainsbury currently isn't selling to people not on the list, but that could change so keep checking it anyway.

vanillandhoney · 01/04/2020 21:01

I got a Tesco slot by randomly checking online one afternoon. No deliveries though, so I need to do click + collect. It was for three weeks in the future though!

Also managed to get one at Morrison's who have only just started delivering here - someone put something on Facebook about it so I checked and managed to get a delivery. It won't arrive until the 20th though!

Whoareyoudududu · 01/04/2020 21:07

Personally I’d get a massive shop in before you leave your Mum’s and take it home with you in the car. Try all of the supermarkets at various times throughout the day for slots, cancellations will appear eventually or they’ll release new slots. Probably won’t get one for 2-3 weeks but if you stock up before leaving your Mum’s it won’t matter.

PotholeParadise · 01/04/2020 21:07

I have not been able to make any supermarket orders since the very beginning of March, and over that period we've had to isolate twice for potential coronavirus!

Local businesses are your friend. Go on FB. In your town's local community group will be businesses advertising their brand new food delivery service. Butchers, bakers, and candle-stick makers, and rhe whole kaboodle.

carlywurly · 01/04/2020 21:09

Had a look and they're all gone here but tbh we can go out so will do while we can. There are plenty of isolated and vulnerable people round here who need them more than us.

Our local co op supermarket is doing the job at the moment. Got everything I needed today.

Likethebattle · 01/04/2020 21:10

We randomly got a click and collect slot for Saturday. Not our nearest store but DH has been ‘stalking’ them all all day long.

MaggieFS · 01/04/2020 21:14

Ocado: don't bother unless you are on the government extremely vulnerable list or have an anytime smart pass already
Sainsbury's: ditto for delivery. Very occasionally and odd C&C slot comes up

Purplecatshopaholic · 01/04/2020 21:14

No clever strategy here - I check the websites daily at various random times depending what I am doing, and when I spot a slot I grab it! Challenging to get one, but I just keep trying (no car, or shops particularly near). I have a Morrison’s order coming tonight but they have just emailed with the items that are missing from the order - more than 2 thirds of the order missing, and no subs! So I will have to try to get another slot sooner than I would have if I had got everything I needed.

Jellykat · 01/04/2020 21:18

I worked out last week that Tesco adds another day for delivery at Midnight.. managed to actually get a slot last night!
You will have to sit in the queue for a while, watching the page refresh and praying..

CheeseFlavouredDiscs · 01/04/2020 21:42

As a household with people on the extremely vulnerable list, we are hugely grateful for the supermarkets prioritising us over customers that are still able to safely go to the shops. We haven't left the house in weeks, but have recently been able to get deliveries (we are doing one big delivery every 8-10 days).

Before now we just logged in at midnight for all the stores but could only get click and collect slots that we couldn't use.

Greenscissors · 01/04/2020 22:51

I've just looked again at Sainsbury's (with a delivery pass): slots for me available Sat and Sun. For one relative (London) most days, but for my 'vulnerable' parents (rural 50 miles from London) nothing, so it's very dependent on location.

I've used my account to deliver to relatives instead of myself before now, and my next order will combine three local households.

Darbs76 · 01/04/2020 22:55

For Tesco slots released at midnight, for 3wks later. You can have 2 deliveries or click and collect at once. You can also get cancellations so download the app and keep trying. Have your card details input ready. As soon as slots released stick anything in basket, like milk and checkout straight away. The other night I managed to get my 3 digits in and then it went to a queue at 12.03 luckily it had gone through. I have 2 click and collects for 9th and 20th April so going to get enough to last. I usually get a home delivery weekly but leaving delivery for those without a car now. Good luck, if you persevere you can get them booked

Rose789 · 01/04/2020 22:59

I got a slot with asda for 2 weeks time. Signed into my account at 11.55 last night added £40 worth of items (minimum spend) and got a slot at 12.01. Trying to checkout I was held in a queue for 1 hour 45 minutes but I eventually got one.
I’m shielding for 12 weeks due to cancer and have a 5 and 1 year old. My husband is an nhs worker so is staying at his brothers. He has been shopping for us and leaving on the doorstep but it’s been difficult.
Mil and fil were shopping for us in the last few weeks but they are now self isolating with symptoms

Isithometimeyet0987 · 01/04/2020 23:01

I got a delivery slot by going on the site at 2am it was for two weeks later but better than nothing.

Macncheeseballs · 01/04/2020 23:01

Have you checked if local businesses are delivering. That's how I got through 14 day isolation

Purpleclownsuit · 01/04/2020 23:09

Asda has some for our area right now (whereas I couldn’t get any even at midnight the other day) so might be worth checking random times.

Solasum · 01/04/2020 23:14

I am in Central London and while Sainsburys were all full last week, there were some available yesterday when I checked, though only for today and Friday no later, then when I logged in today there were lots of slots next week. Persevere!

Purpleclownsuit · 01/04/2020 23:17

@Darbs76

Where did you hear about the two slot limit with Tesco please?

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 01/04/2020 23:58

I have stayed awake and am in a Tesco queue now.

Let's see if it pays off.
