Pot Noodle - who’s being unreasonable?

briebuiltthiscity · 31/03/2020 14:01

So there’s a hot debate going on in my house over the correct way to eat a pot noodle. I believe that you just eat until the “noodles” are gone, discarding the juice at the bottom.

Dh however believes in then drinking it - sort of like a soup.

Aibu to think he’s a savage Wink

You make it with minimal water so the noodles soak up all the water and you get hardly any liquid left.

MitziK · 31/03/2020 14:35

Like any ramen, the soup is designed to be consumed as well.

timeforawine · 31/03/2020 14:35

I have bombay bad boy and use a naan bread to mop up the extra sauce :-D

DisneyIsMyDrug · 31/03/2020 14:36

I eat mines like you do, & DH eats his like your DH Grin and it has to be chicken & mushroom with the mushroom bits picked out because although I love mushrooms they are like dead flies in pot noodles 🤣

BatShite · 31/03/2020 14:37

I hate this so much, actually makes me feel ill. DH and 5 kids all do it..drinking noodlewater is odd IMO, but not harmful so carry on being weird.

BiggerBoat1 · 31/03/2020 14:37

You are supposed to pour it on your chips. All of it.

Actual genius!

Wonders if it counts as an essential food shop to go out to buy pot noodles.....

Billyeyelash · 31/03/2020 14:38

You are adding too much water. There should not be soupy water.

emilybrontescorsett · 31/03/2020 14:39

There would have to be virtually nothing left in my cupboards before I would enjoy eating a pot noodle.
If I had to eat one, I would leave the dregs in the bottom.

Sonichu · 31/03/2020 14:39

pOt NoOdLeS aRe DiSguStiNg!111 Oh shut up.

Anyway, the best (only) way to eat a Pot Noodle is to put a little less water in it than recommended so that it's a bit "thicker", dip toast into the sauce and THEN eat the noodles. There shouldn't be any sauce left to fight about.

(I hate watery noodles)

BarbaraofSeville · 31/03/2020 14:40

YABU for even having a pot noodle. There's been none to be found round here for weeks. Sad Even worse, I think I left one at work, and I might not go back there for ages due to WFH.

if there’s ‘juice’ in the bottom you’ve added too much water

^^ This. I deliberately make up any dehydrated foods (noodle pots, instant mash, pasta n sauce) with less water than it says because they end up too watery if you follow the instructions.

I eat the noodles and leave most of the sauce, rationalising that noodles are proper food and the sauce contains most of the salt and additives, so best left alone.

DP is an 'eat with buttered white bread and possibly make into sandwiches man' but I'm completely ambivalent about how people eat it and am quite happy for people to have them as they like them

GetawayfromthatWelshtart · 31/03/2020 14:40

If it's chicken and mushroom then yes, drinking of the dregs is a requirement that should be laid down in law.

The other flavours should be optional for dreg drinking as they are the more lowly flavours than the Holy Chicken and mushroom.

ALL HAIL THE CHICKEN AND MUSHROOM POT NOODLE!!!

AmelieTaylor · 31/03/2020 14:41

I’m eating low carb to keep my blood sugars in check, more important now than ever. I can butvdream of a pot noodles. I have one in the emergency box (all bought in early Feb) but I need to save the ‘carb box’ until I can’t get fresh veg.

I’d drink the soup and quite possibly eat the pot 😹

Lozz22 · 31/03/2020 14:42

Chicken and mushroom pot noodle with any flavour Doritos crushed inside it. The juices at the bottom soak up into the crisps creating a lovely soggy gooey delicious mess

BarbaraofSeville · 31/03/2020 14:42

you are supposed to pour it on your chips. All of it

Ooh, now there's an idea. If I ever find another Pot Noodle, I might try that.

Washyourhandsyoufilthyanimal · 31/03/2020 14:42

I don’t think I’ve ever had a pot noodle. So I’m not sure! But I would say eating it as gulping it down does sound disgusting. I assume you eat with a fork?

reefedsail · 31/03/2020 14:44

What you do is fill the pot with grated cheese straight after putting the hot water in.

The cheese melts and kind of binds it all so you don't get much juice left.

The addition of cheese also makes it into a fresh food.

HTH

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/03/2020 14:45

You use bread with a slice of butter on it to mop up the sauce.

This. I haven't had one in decades but I doubt that rule has changed.

BiggerBoat1 · 31/03/2020 14:46

Why are you on this thread if you think pot noodles are disgusting?

No place for you people here.

This is a serious debate for the appreciators.

Beef and tomato is the best one btw. With extra ketchup.

Ginkypig · 31/03/2020 14:47

Neither of you are right.

You add less water to begin with so there is no juice at the bottom and the whole thing has a thicker sauce or coating for the noodles rather than soaking wet noodles swimming in anemic flavoured water!

I only have pot noodles occasionally though so I suppose the regular experts know better than me.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 31/03/2020 14:49

I hate Pot Noodles.

However I live with three Pot Noodle lovers (and one sane dc who also hates them)- all of them say you are the savage and your DH is right.

Cheeryandmerry · 31/03/2020 14:49

Never eaten one but if forced at gunpoint it would be your way!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 31/03/2020 14:50

You're both unreasonable - pot noodles are disgusting.

As above - they are food for neither man nor beast, and I strongly suspect that they actually have a negative nutritional value, and will leach calcium out of your very bones etc

GetawayfromthatWelshtart · 31/03/2020 14:51

ohhh.. Idea.

Dear Pot Noodle,

Please can you invent little stock cubes of the dreg flavourings so we can make soups or other liquidy delights from them when we don't fancy noodles?

Love me

SchadenfreudePersonified · 31/03/2020 14:52

I’d drink the soup and quite possibly eat the pot

That's a good idea - there is more nourishment in the pot than in the noodles.

otterturk · 31/03/2020 14:52

Fill it until full and drink the soup!
