To ask if you earn £50K+ what do you do?

I have seen a lot of posts on here where people say how much they earn and I am shocked how many people earn over £50K, so I was just wondering what it is that you do?

Also, do you think it is more important to have a high income or a job that you enjoy?

I suspect a lot of happiness at work relates to autonomy and a sense of confidence in your role. Higher earners are more likely to have both.
And yes, considering the median salary in this country 50K is a lot! But it'd also be interesting to know how old everyone is - I'm nowhere near 50K but hope to be in another 5 -10 years.

Intensive care senior registrar... rather feel I am earning it at the moment 🤣🦠🦠🦠

IamRhubarbBikini · 30/03/2020 20:03

I work in public relations. I love my job but it’s not always easy to have a work/life balance with it, so the salary makes up for not having much of a life outside of work.

JaneEyre7 · 30/03/2020 20:04

DH and I run our own business.

I wouldn't recommend it.

Is that gross? If you earn 50k a year, how much do you actually take home a month?

WhatTiggersDoBest · 30/03/2020 20:06

A few of these jobs would no way earn that sort of money outside London/South East (a couple of them are actually capped at lower than £40k let alone).

Mrskeats · 30/03/2020 20:07

I would be if I was full time.

DH is a management consultant and earns a little under £200k. I earn around £60k as an educational consultant. I love my work, DH loves his, but I'm considerably less stressed than him.

littlemissminor · 30/03/2020 20:10

DH is an area manager for a recruitment company, earns just under £50k salary but gets a very good commission

Silvercatowner · 30/03/2020 20:10

Senior Nurse, only just scraping the 50k though

SimonJT · 30/03/2020 20:12

I’m a senior investments actuary who manages a team of 20, not the most exciting job, but due to working to climb quickly the hours are flexible and the pay is good. I’m also a huge maths geek.

nowaitaminute · 30/03/2020 20:13

Teacher
Hubby is in engineering
We both earn over 50k

KittyVonCatsworth · 30/03/2020 20:13

Head of Support Services in an engineering company. I like it but sometimes I just wish I didn't have the responsibility. I used to make almost double before the oil market crashed but I'm very grateful I have a good job and I'm paid well.

Husband has his own construction business. A lot of long hours and hard physical work, and now the uncertainty for the future, but again, bum fully thankful for the time being.

Gizmo79 · 30/03/2020 20:13

Nurse, ( relatively senior with some unsocial hours) not a normal salary for nurses before everyone says something about being overpaid! My band 5’s get £12 an hour.... disgusting pay for what they do.

AdriannaP · 30/03/2020 20:15

I work for a big Foundation. I love my job, your question is weird. One doesn’t exclude the other.

coffeeforone · 30/03/2020 20:15

Do you mean in London or out of London. Big difference on whether £50k is a lot or not

Sparklingplasters · 30/03/2020 20:17

IT sales, It’s quarter end, I’m about to go back to work, very stressful but lucrative.
