To ask if you earn £50K+ what do you do?

Poppi89 · 30/03/2020 18:51

I have seen a lot of posts on here where people say how much they earn and I am shocked how many people earn over £50K, so I was just wondering what it is that you do?

Also, do you think it is more important to have a high income or a job that you enjoy?

Can’t give exact title as it’s quite niche, but it’s similar to Operations Director.
I enjoy it, but like most jobs it’s 80% grunt work and 20% excitement.

WickedlyPetite · 30/03/2020 19:22

Self employed forensic accountant.

Iseethesilverlining · 30/03/2020 19:24

Senior civil servant - absolutely love it, feel I make a real difference! DH earns lots more though, in the private sector as a regional Director. He likes his job but not as much as I like mine! It’s really flexible in terms of working hours, working from home, even in non-crisis mode.

7Penguins · 30/03/2020 19:24

@WickedlyPetite do you enjoy it? How did you get into it?
Asking because my DH has been considering it.

Stickybeaksid · 30/03/2020 19:24

Compliance manager For a big bank and my Dh is a lawyer for a big American company with a presence here.

SlipperyLizard · 30/03/2020 19:25

I’m a solicitor, I enjoy the nuts and bolts of my job (giving advice/solving problems) but the pressure to generate revenues is something I could live without!

But if you’d told me as a teenager that I’d be doing what I do, and earning what I do, I’d probably have laughed!

MoreGruel · 30/03/2020 19:26

Solicitor. I love it, even though it can be stressful.

There has to be a balance, ultimately. Earning a lot isn’t going to completely compensate for a job you loathe, but having very little money can be stressful and miserable even if you love your job. There’s a very broad happy middle.

Stickybeaksid · 30/03/2020 19:26

Sorry I forgot to add I live my job but my dh hates his and only does it for the big pay cheque and benefits

I'm a head of a core Department in a secondary school with an additional
Whole school responsibility.

eurochick · 30/03/2020 19:26

Lawyer.

I do enjoy it but it's very stressful.

GrumpyHoonMain · 30/03/2020 19:26

Risk management in a specialist banking area that makes a real difference. Love it.

STAYTHEFUCKHOME · 30/03/2020 19:27

Head of data science. Which sounds a lot worse than it is.

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 30/03/2020 19:27

I was a G7 government economist, £60k+. Fair amount of responsibility, but mostly 9-5 except on big announcements, good pension, flexible working.

As with previous posters, is rather do it for £60k than £20k 🤷‍♀️

reallyjustreally · 30/03/2020 19:31

Finance. Absolutely love my job. Just over £100k.

Poppi89 · 30/03/2020 19:31

Thank you so much for all your honest posts, I find them really interesting.

Civil servant. Just under 50k, was hoping for a promotion in next few years. With all this CV I’ll just be glad to have a job. Only reason I want promotion is I’m saying to buy a house. Living in the SE of England I can’t afford anything on 50k on single salary. So saving for a house in my native north wales and a move to Liverpool offices

Darbs76 · 30/03/2020 19:34

And to add I didn’t always want to be a civil servant, not my dream job. But I do enjoy it and can move around. It’s a good career when you’re a parent

Lordfrontpaw · 30/03/2020 19:35

When I managed a marketing dept in the City. Nowhere near that now!

OvertiredandConfused · 30/03/2020 19:36

CEO of a healthcare charity. Love my job and wouldn’t swap but I’m never off duty and I work very long hours (currently 65+)

edwinbear · 30/03/2020 19:36

Investment banker. It’s OK, I don’t love, love it, but we have high outgoings and DH was made redundant in November with nothing on the horizon so I’m grateful for it.

hopeishere · 30/03/2020 19:37

Senior PR. I enjoy my job although I work with some right morons. I've slogged through really shitty low paid jobs to get to this one.

Marahute · 30/03/2020 19:37

My husband is head software designer. He very much enjoys his job.
