OK so my husband completely disagrees with me on this. I cry at pretty much everything, he doesn't.
He gets teary at this song... To me it's like nails down a blackboard... The song..
Imagine by John lennon
I can't explain it but I hate it with a passion, it makes cringe
Am I the only one like my husband says or do others get the same feeling....what other songs have that effect on people???

Love Shack by B52s. Hate it so much.

AlliKaneSon · 01/04/2020 02:13

It’s a big yes to whoever said Mull of Kintyre- I have an irrational hatred for it! Not a fan of Imagine, either, but I love Don’t Look Back in Anger, which is pretty much a rip off of the beginning of Imagine.

smileannie · 01/04/2020 04:53

I just called to say I love you - Stevie Wonder.

A true icon, brilliant song writer, singer, musician and this drivel is his best selling single ever. So disappointed in him as an artist.

Just goes to show the musical taste (or lack of) of the general public.

I was lucky enough to see him twice in the 80s and can only think he must have needed the money, knocked this out in an afternoon, had a laugh to himself and watched the dollars role into his bank account.

FeekyChuckery · 01/04/2020 09:58

Oh @webuiltthisbuffetonsausageroll I had to immediately check that out! I had never realised that about Amazing Grace! Horrifying Angry

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 01/04/2020 09:59

I too don't like singers that sound like they need a dose of benylin.... Ellie Goulding, Dido, Bryan Adams, Diana from X Factor a few years ago. And those that sound OK for most of the song but then have to put a kind of hoarse moany noise in somewhere.

FeekyChuckery · 01/04/2020 10:11

I hadn't really heard of Jess Glynne as I'm old and out of touch, but just googled her and she is great!

FeekyChuckery · 01/04/2020 10:16

I'm reminding myself that this is about songs not singers Confused

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 01/04/2020 10:27

'Why does it always rain on me?' by Travis. So much as the first bars are enough to set my teeth on edge and make me want to grind them to powder. And the lyrics are godawful.
'You win again' by the Bee Gees also really annoys me.
'Saturday Night' by Wigfield. Along with the horrible fucking dance. Get out of town.

I'm with others on:

Angels by Robbie Williams. In fact, anything by Robbie Williams.
Oasis. They did one great album (Definitely Maybe). Everything else they've ever done sucks.
Come on Eileen. Ditto the horrible dance that always went with it in my former locality (grown blokes jumping up and down wildly on the spot, and like as not it would end in a fight).
Anything that has vocal fry in song form ... just ... no.

Tinyandpetite · 01/04/2020 10:27

Katy perry- roar 😡

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 01/04/2020 10:28

NB. Bryan Adams and that horrible 'everything I do, I do for you', song. Ditto Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. THe second was a better song than the first, but both were worn out through overplay.

Iamagree · 01/04/2020 10:38

Ruby by the Kaiser Chiefs because it does not scan! Those lyrics have been squished squeezed and shoehorned by force to fit a mediocre childish "melody"
due to lack of interEST
TOMorroOW is canCELLed

aaarghhhh!

Funtcase95 · 01/04/2020 10:51

Anything McFly touch I can't fucking stand them. I beg my DD doesn't get into Tom Fletchers books Hmm

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 01/04/2020 11:06

I'm just glad no-one said "Fairytale of New York" The Pogues otherwise I'd have to come round and put a bat up yer nightdress.

I am usually quite sloth like, but I can move like greased lightning on speed if I hear the first line of that fucking awful dirge come on.

I will even leave shops that song is being played in at Christmas time.
I have not had the lifelong misfortune to hear more than 2 or 3 seconds of it for going on 10 years now.

Can you tell I hate it?

misskick · 01/04/2020 11:57

Thankyou to my ex by ariana grande. I have to turn it over or off. The song just goes through me.

Florapenelope · 01/04/2020 12:46

cannot believe ‘You win again’ by the BeeGees and ‘make me smile’ by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel is on this thread. Disgraceful!!!

I’ll add some
‘All of me’ by John Legend. Jesus give it a rest John
Anything by Ariana Grande
Anything by Sam Smith Angry Absolutely cannot stand Sam Smith !!!

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 01/04/2020 13:06

Another vote of support for The Beautiful South whose irony is clearly lost on some. Paul Heaton is one of our most brilliant songwriters and a national treasure.

Chris Martin And His Quite Literally Monotonous Earache Noise, by contrast.....

Badassmama · 01/04/2020 13:20

Heyya- my first job in new look we used to get 1 cd a month that we had to listen to on repeat.... takes me right back to working up to double my shift in unpaid overtime putting things back on hangers

BovaryX · 01/04/2020 13:34

I Just Called to Say I love You - it has a couple of my pet hates; a plodding inane backing beat and a mid-song key change

Grin. Yep. Dire. I detest that Driving home for
Christmas song by Chris something. Actually, I would incinerate the entire Christmas playlist. Most of it is auditory torture....

Salamander91 · 01/04/2020 13:41

Umbrella by Rihanna

rayoflightboy · 01/04/2020 14:43

Ariana Grande i even detest her more than Mariah Carey and thats saying something.

Lady GaGa is another one i just cant stand.Even if she comes on youtube i just cant stand her gurning face and god awful dancing.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 01/04/2020 15:14

Ha! 'Come up and see me, make me smile' was playing in my local Co-Op the other day. I gave the cashier a wide smile and commented that this was a bit ironic to day the least.

To quote that wonderful movie 'Velvet Goldmine', it went down like a knackered lift.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 01/04/2020 15:14

Actually, I would incinerate the entire Christmas playlist. Most of it is auditory torture.

Likewise.

Pinkypink · 01/04/2020 22:12

Natasha bedingfield -these words.
Was pregnant in 2004
The song made me feel sick but was sometimes to ill to move. Would lie on couch praying for it to end

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 01/04/2020 22:21

American Pie
Brown Eyed Girl
I Just Called To Say I Love You

All of these fill me with incandescent, irrational fury. As do just about any jaunty, cheery songs.
