Even when the supermarkets are fully stocked with all other milks there is no skimmed milk. Have the stopped selling it or have I just missed it each time I shop (every few days)?

We can’t get it!

Roselilly36 · 29/03/2020 10:45

I know OP, we are self isolating, I keep trying to order some for our neighbour, every size & type of skimmed milk are out of stock.

Thisismyusernamefornow · 29/03/2020 10:46

In the UHT section it's all I've seen available! No semi or full fat.

Soapyb · 29/03/2020 10:46

Tesco said they were to stop selling it during the crisis in order to prioritise whole & semi skimmed. I would imagine most others would follow suit.

coffeeforone · 29/03/2020 10:49

Not UHT sorry, I need fresh skimmed. I'm one of those that is weird with milk and would rather go without than have UHT or full fat milk.

I do buy blue milk for the kids, so it's no biggie, just wondering why it's not available.

Co-op normally have it.

PeppaP · 29/03/2020 10:50

Just add some water to semi skimmed :)

cece · 29/03/2020 10:51

At SlimmingWorld they were saying they've stopped selling it due to the crisis. Semi skimmed and whole milk available only

RJnomore1 · 29/03/2020 10:51

Bought some in our local tesco yesterday!

Didn’t know they were stopping it

Eeyoresstickhouse · 29/03/2020 10:52

Arla one of the biggest dairy chains have stopped making skimmed while the crisis is ongoing. This is to streamline production and to up the output they can produce.

I can imagine we won't have skimmed milk for quite some time. Even semi tastes so creamy now after being in skimmed for so long.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 29/03/2020 10:52

It was announced by supermarkets as a conscious decision to reduce range but increase amounts.
I assume it’s because no one actually needs slimmed milk but children need whole milk. (Not sure about semi skimmed)

coffeeforone · 29/03/2020 10:52

Soapby / ok thanks, I've tried Tesco and Sainsburys, Waitrose. There is a coop close by too so will try there.

I can't get it either. I also like the 1% orange top milk but that has disappeared. I'm living with semi-skimmed, it's better than full fat.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 29/03/2020 10:52

*on

gassylady · 29/03/2020 10:52

Thought it was just me tried the BOB instead and that just tastes a bit odd. Luckily I always have some UHT in the cupboard as it is all a couple of (usually) regular visitors will drink. May have to use that

Phifedean123 · 29/03/2020 10:54

My local newsagents has been fully stocked including skimmed milk

coffeeforone · 29/03/2020 10:55

Thanks! If that's the case I'll just go without for a few months! - not a huge fan of milk anyway as you can tell I'm quite fussy. Good to know it's not available.

ThePittts · 29/03/2020 10:56

I have only seen it in the local co op, but only the 4 pint

recklessruby · 29/03/2020 10:57

I m in Herts and have been buying the 4 pt bottles from Sainsbury's, got some Wednesday.
If it goes I will have to use dd s soya milk as I cant bear the creamy taste of the others but soya milk is horrible in coffee so i will drink that black.
Didnt know there was a shortage.

PumpkinPie2016 · 29/03/2020 11:13

I have got it in our local co op. I think lidl had it yesterday as well (as far as I can remember- didn't look closely as only needed semi skimmed for DS and DH).

Petrol stations may also have it.

I hope I can keep getting it - semi skimmed causes havoc with my IBS.

RJnomore1 · 29/03/2020 11:21

Could you buy uht and decant into an old bottle?

HermanHermit · 29/03/2020 11:24

Coop is the only place I’ve found it so have frozen one for when it’s completely unavailable- small producers only I guess. Black coffee here I come!

Bumbers · 29/03/2020 11:26

We cant find it either! Tried loads of shops over that last couple of weeks and all they have is semi of full fat! Central London.

donquixotedelamancha · 29/03/2020 11:29

Can you not just save the water after you've done the dishes? Just as palatable as skimmed milk.

tttigress · 29/03/2020 11:33

It obviously takes some effort to "make" semi skimmed, so I am guessing they thought it was better the guarantee the supply of whole milk.
