Even when the supermarkets are fully stocked with all other milks there is no skimmed milk. Have the stopped selling it or have I just missed it each time I shop (every few days)?

Our local Tesco express has it.

Pretty sure I saw skimmed milk in Sainsburys yesterday.

caringcarer · 29/03/2020 12:41

I tried to add it to my online order but supermarket says none available. I have a few pints of UHT after thst I will have to use semi skimmed.

BackforGood · 29/03/2020 12:48

Thought it was just me. Our 'normal' weekly shop normally includes about 6 litres of long life skimmed milk but not been able to get it since before rationing began.
No problem getting semi-skimmed.

Boysnme · 29/03/2020 12:50

We’ve had no problem getting it in our local Tesco & Aldi. Will watch out now to see if that stops!

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 29/03/2020 13:01

It’s the lowest-selling type, so dairies are prioritising semi-skimmed (biggest seller) and whole (recommended for under 2s). Could you water down some semi-skimmed?

MigginsMrs · 29/03/2020 13:03

I can't get it either. I also like the 1% orange top milk but that has disappeared. I'm living with semi-skimmed, it's better than full fat.

I got orange milk the other day. I also managed to get the last carton of skimmed and some skimmed UHT for a neighbour who needed some.

TakeMeBackToLondis · 29/03/2020 13:04

I've had no problem getting skimmed milk just yet; Can't stand semi, the creaminess makes me nauseous.

If the supply dwindles I'll have to go back to black tea and coffee Sad

My local Asda had some yesterday, I'll have to go tomorrow and see if I can get some to put in the freezer.

TakeMeBackToLondis · 29/03/2020 13:06

I find it interesting those that say skimmed is the lowest selling kind of milk; it's the only milk all the adults I know will drink.

EstebanTheMagnificent · 29/03/2020 13:15

Those adults are unusual, @TakeMeBackToLondis! Skimmed milk is about 12% of the market, semi-skimmed 60%, whole milk 23%: ahdb.org.uk/news/consumer-insight-liquid-milk-market-performance

Lllot5 · 29/03/2020 13:17

I can’t go without milk at all. Blue is my favourite but I get green.
I could drink gallons of blue milk. And eat butter with a spoon. Probably why I’m fat.

Carlamity · 29/03/2020 13:59

Milk and More are still delivering skimmed milk to the door. I'm not sure they're taking on any new customers now though. I guess the skimmed deliveries may stop soon.

There really must be regional variations then surely? Everyone I know (except my sister) drinks skimmed. I'm thinking people who say water semi down are not skimmed milk aficionados! That would just make watered-down semi, which is not the same as skimmed.

starrynight19 · 29/03/2020 14:01

No I went to the supermarkets today plenty of blue and green but no skimmed.
I miss it.

EstebanTheMagnificent · 29/03/2020 14:18

@73Sunglasslover We probably cancel each other out - the only people I’ve ever known to drink skimmed were MIL and SIL when they did Slimming World!

I imagine the variation is more likely to be age-related. Adults over 40ish are more likely to have grown up with the vogue for low-fat diets, and are more likely to have medical conditions which necessitate a very low fat diet, eg gallstones. Young adults are drinking much less dairy of any kind, and are increasingly buying plant milks instead.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 29/03/2020 14:21

Check local foreign shops. While all supermarkets were empty I always found milk in polish shops

Oopsinamechangedagain2020 · 29/03/2020 14:35

Co op. Though sometimes they have sold out because Sainsbury and Tesco no longer stock it.

Ginfordinner · 29/03/2020 14:40

I'm thinking people who say water semi down are not skimmed milk aficionados!

Spot on. Sorry, but I place skimmed milk in the same room 101 of pointless things as mild cheddar and smooth peanut butter Grin

I really don't like skimmed milk. It is too watery and, unless it has been fortified, contains much less vitamin D than semi skimmed. The only person I know who has skimmed milk is my sister. Everyone else I know has semi skimmed. We only had semi skimmed at work for tea/coffee making.

Dahlietta · 29/03/2020 14:43

Doesn't it come out of the taps? It's a different colour, but it tastes the same.

Gre8scott · 29/03/2020 14:44

I've got it everytime I've been 8n a shop

Ginfordinner · 29/03/2020 14:46

Grin It does doesn't it. I think it is milk for people who don't like milk.
Francina670 · 29/03/2020 14:46

M&S have it usually. It’s my favourite but I’ll manage with semi if I have to.

Fcukthisshit · 29/03/2020 14:47

I got some from m & s this morning.

quirrels · 29/03/2020 14:51

In my last online delivery they sent sterilised skimmed milk instead of my usual UHT. It was fine.

cherrytree63 · 29/03/2020 14:52

It's all they had in Home Bargains yesterday.
