Even when the supermarkets are fully stocked with all other milks there is no skimmed milk. Have the stopped selling it or have I just missed it each time I shop (every few days)?

I think it is milk for people who don't like milk.
Spot on! I don't like the taste of milk but need the calcium. I use skimmed milk on cereal and in coffee. For some reason I don't like black coffee.

Holdingmybreath · 29/03/2020 14:55

I got some today at Tesco's,they only had 2pt ones which will last me for a long time.

QueenofLouisiana · 29/03/2020 14:57

I got 2 huge bottles delivered from Morrison’s today. I actually wanted 2 much smaller bottles so I could take 1 to work and gave the other at home. I’ve frozen one, so it definitely won’t be wasted.

Ginfordinner · 29/03/2020 15:00

We are getting through loads of milk right now. DH and I are drinking loads of tea - through boredom I think.

Pets at home are still open. Get yourself a nice cuttlefish bone and nibble at that.

@73Sunglasslover @TakeMeBackToLondis

Weird, the only adults I know who drink skimmed are on SW or similar and moan about how much they dislike it

TakeMeBackToLondis · 29/03/2020 15:22

Rola - Nope, nobody on SW/WWs or similar. Just can't tolerate the creamy taste of semi-skimmed in tea and coffee/on cereal.

CeriseClementine · 29/03/2020 15:28

Really? I'm surprised.

We've noticed the opposite, tonnes of skimmed and full fat and NO semi anywhere, which is what we always buy.

For the last week we've been buying skimmed and full fat milk and mixing them 50/50 in an empty milk container to make our own semi skimmed (DH's idea which I thought was fairly clever Grin ). No idea if the 'make up' is the same as semi when you mix them like this but it tastes close enough.

TheSquitz · 29/03/2020 15:28

I have to have fresh skimmed in tea, and can just about tolerate semi or UHT skimmed in coffee but happily use it on cereal or in porridge. Skimmed has definitely been harder to get lately.

This is me, exactly!

Suze1621 · 29/03/2020 17:26

Hadn't been able to get it for the last week, however back in stock yesterday so fingers crossed for you.

This is me!! I'm not even that bothered I can't get it tbh, who needs cereal! toast and black coffee are just fine!

It's partly because there is less demand for cream in the hospitality industry and partly because producers are having to alter production due to skeleton staff

Nonnymum · 29/03/2020 18:00

I have my milk delivered and he has continued delivering skimmed.

Lordfrontpaw · 29/03/2020 18:01

We have Waitrose in the petrol station near us and they had some. Nowhere else did.

Oopsinamechangedagain2020 · 29/03/2020 23:24

I don't like skimmed milk but I like tea with skimmed milk! Just a dash. I usually only buy a pint and it lasts me a week and then I have to chuck it. I've resorted to drinking peppermint tea as that doesn't require any milk. Tea with semi skimmed or full fat milk cannot be tolerated.

LukeSkywalkingOnTheseHaters · 29/03/2020 23:31

Just make do with semi

Not the end of the world (yet)

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 29/03/2020 23:31

waitrose had some this afternoon - but only half a dozen bottles in one size, compared to near full shelves for semi skimmed and full fat.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/03/2020 23:32

We got the skimmed milk and whole milk we'd requested with veg and meat boxes from a local company yesterday, the milk was from a local dairy.

I prefer skimmed in tea (which I drink loads of).

OwlinaTree · 29/03/2020 23:33

Morrison's by us has only had blue and green for a week or so. Got skimmed from the local co-op though.

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 29/03/2020 23:48

We're still getting 1% from the milkman and he delivers skimmed next door

Oldraver · 30/03/2020 11:11

I think those who don't like skimmed see it as watered down and think you can reproduce it this way. Those who like skimmed buy it for not having the creaminess taken out.

Does this mean dairy manufacturers won't bother with other milk derivatives (cream, sour cream etc) as they have to be faffed with ?

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 30/03/2020 11:13

If you can get hold of non-homogenised milk (eg the Duchy Originals stuff from Waitrose) then it's quite easy to skim it yourself.

Ginfordinner · 30/03/2020 11:42

Exactly. Clearly I was wrong. I find whole milk too creamy, semi skimmed just right, and skimmed milk too watery.

BackforGood · 30/03/2020 21:17

Glad to report that our Aldi were back stocking all milks this morning, so I was able to get my skimmed milk Smile
