To not give up my delivery slots..

Shootingstar2918 · 27/03/2020 19:09

Hi all, background... I am not vulnerable and I am fit and healthy and able to go shopping but it’s extremely difficult. I have two children with autism and my partner has to work. I live 12 miles away from the nearest large supermarket. The village shop doesn’t sell much.

I get my shopping delivered every week without fail at the same time every week. I always book slots in advance particularly at usual peak times - Christmas, Easter, summer holidays.

My partner still has to work long hours so not as easy as one of us getting to the shop. By the time he finishes this week the shops are shut. They don’t open late here.

I have two shops booked. One for next week and another for the week after.

Been told I’m selfish for not leaving them for the vulnerable?

I booked these 2 weeks ago! When Tesco released easter bank holiday priority slots for delivery savers!

Surely I should keep my slots and not be made to feel guilty?

I know I’ll probably have to shop in store after these 2 slots!

No keep them, you have no guarantee someone "more deserving" would get them.

Rather hacked off that Tesco aren't prioritising delivery saver customers anyway. Ocado are.

ArriettyJones · 27/03/2020 19:12

With two autistic DC and 12 miles from supermarket? YANBU at all.

LittleLittleLittle · 27/03/2020 19:12

Keep the slots but don't be surprised in a few weeks you can't get them because people like me, with depressed immune systems who can't go out at all, get them.

(BTW I don't shop at Tescos)

serialtester · 27/03/2020 19:13

Tbh I think you are pretty selfish. Sorry. I think that if we can physically get out to the shops that we should and home delivery should be ring fenced for the vulnerable.

DamnYouAutoCarrot · 27/03/2020 19:14

@jakeyboy1 from what I've seen, ocado have cancelled all of those slots for those who had the pass. After saying they wouldn't.

@Shootingstar2918 so it would be hard for you to shop anyway? You're not just being lazy, keep your slot.

CodenameVillanelle · 27/03/2020 19:14

YANBU keep the slots
Supermarkets are putting on EXTRA slots for the registered vulnerable and non vulnerable customers are still allowed to order deliveries. Those who can go in person should but you aren't one of those.

bruffin · 27/03/2020 19:15

,Ocado are.
They are not really, they cancelled all the reserved without telling us. We dont even know if my delivery booked weeks ago is coming tomorrow. They said they are letting smart pass holders have a priority spot but I havent received my link yet.

CodenameVillanelle · 27/03/2020 19:15

Don't be ridiculous. She has two autistic children.

Biscusting · 27/03/2020 19:16

YANBU

NorfieGirl · 27/03/2020 19:16

Not told by the supermarket?? Ignore whoever told you that, I'd imagine it would be dead easy to ensure two children with autism to wait in the queue to enter the supermarket and adhere to social distancing at all time 🙄🤨🤔

macaroniandpizza · 27/03/2020 19:17

serialtester i disagree the op has 2 children with autism and the delivery saver pass most likely saves a lot of hassle taking her 2 children to the shops. What if they have a meltdown at the shops and cant be consoled?

amber763 · 27/03/2020 19:17

Yeah why do you need a shop every week? Youre being selfish. Sorry

NorfieGirl · 27/03/2020 19:19

Definitely keep the slots!! Tell everyone else to bog off if they dare offer an opinion!

onionface · 27/03/2020 19:20

YANBU to keep them. I'm not vulnerable but I'm keeping mine because I don't have a car and I have a toddler, if I had to go to the shops I'd be limited to buying a backpack and carrier bag of food at a time from tiny city shops that are out of stock of loads of stuff. So I'd need to shop every 2 or 3 days. Instead I'm staying at home and having a fortnightly supermarket delivery.

Biscusting · 27/03/2020 19:20

I think people should be doing more to support vulnerable to take the pressure off delivery slot demand. For example my MIL lives alone, we can easily add extras to our weekly shop to drop at her door. She doesn’t need much and would be a wasted slot in my opinion. Families in your situation would be more of a priority i should think.

amber763 · 27/03/2020 19:20

Actually I changed my mind having thought about your kids. It's hard to know what's right to do. going forward could you get a couple of weeks worth in?

annamie · 27/03/2020 19:20

Not sure why people even know about your slots? Are you bragging?

But yes, keep them.

LittleLittleLittle · 27/03/2020 19:21

@DamnYouAutoCarrot the supermarkets are now working through the government register of who is extremely vulnerable and who is registered with them to work out who can have delivery slots.

You are more likely to get a click and collect slot than a delivery slot if you don't fall into the extremely vulnerable category as it is easier to get more shop floor staff than delivery drivers.

DamnYouAutoCarrot · 27/03/2020 19:25

Makes sense @LittleLittleLittle and exactly how it should be. Thanks for that.

Shootingstar2918 · 27/03/2020 19:27

Thanks all. Going to the shops in the Easter holidays is a challenge anyway let alone with this. I have thought about doing two weeks worth in one shop BUT Tesco are limiting to 80 items per order. I usually spend £100 a week with them anyway so impossible to stock! (I don’t mean panic buying, I mean getting enough for 2 weeks).

The comments were by a relative. She asked how I was managing and said I still have some slots booked.. I’m not bragging about having slots at all!

You are better off not saying anything to anyone at the moment, because this sort of crisis really brings out the worst in some people - and the best in others, thank god.

I would definitely class you as vulnerable because of your children. I think you should keep the slots.

alloutoffucks · 27/03/2020 19:31

I dont know why you don't order for a fortnight and top up locally?

Anyway this is why supermarkets are cancelling slots and giving them to the shielded group, because most people have shopping delivered for a reason.

Orangecake123 · 27/03/2020 19:32

Keep them OP.

You need them too.

Jellykat · 27/03/2020 19:32

Don't see why you have to keep both delivery slots, when the vulnerable who live alone with no real help can't get any at all.. plain greedy imo.

LuxLuxLux84 · 27/03/2020 19:36

As a carer surely you are entitled to those slots.YANBU
