To think people should not be allowed to edit online food shops?

  1. clogs up the ridiculously busy servers
  2. people are using it to mess the system - eg booking several slots with bread and intending on editing nearer the time

It all feels so unnecessary and if people weren’t allowed to edit beyond the first shop perhaps the online queue wouldn’t be 10000000 long

I've edited my online Ocado shop to remove items that I no longer need.

Soulstirring · 26/03/2020 18:12

Really? I booked a delivery three weeks ago for delivery yesterday because I couldn’t get another. I now can’t get another for the whole of April. I had to amend my delivery for yesterday to take that into account and to ensure we don’t need to go to the shop unnecessarily. A lot of items were also showing unavailable and I then had to change items. I’d rather do that than have to go out every few days.

crispysausagerolls · 26/03/2020 18:18

This is exactly why it’s impossible for people to access Ocado just to place an order.

I appreciate your sentiment but why would I not want to be able to add things I’ve run out of?

Bluntness100 · 26/03/2020 18:21

Do you have stats on that op?

Because I’d not have assumed it was folks editing, I’d assume it was more people trying to find slots,. But will bow down to your wisdom here, can you post a link showing the break down you have?

superram · 26/03/2020 18:21

It would result in huge over ordering which is what we are trying to avoid-surely?

Thanks for brightening my day crispy you absolute loon.

playthestation · 26/03/2020 18:22

I went in to edit mine yesterday and actually cancelled it.

Scottishgirl85 · 26/03/2020 18:23

We've been editing orders in order to add items for elderly neighbours. The panic buyers have caused the mess with the food shopping, not me.

Inkpaperstars · 26/03/2020 18:23

I think editing orders is important, people don't know what supplies they might or might not get elsewhere especially with current issues. So not editing might not just mean they can't get the food they need, it might mean waiting food they don't need which could have gone to someone else.

Also sometimes it is necessary to book a slot to edit later, I recently managed to book a slot for my DM who is 80 and having to stay indoors alone many miles away. It was late at night so I had to call the next day to edit the order. I think her need for an order is valid.

I agree people should try to limit editing.

Inkpaperstars · 26/03/2020 18:24

Getting food not waiting food, sorry.

slipperywhensparticus · 26/03/2020 18:26

I had to edit mine Tesco kept taking food OUT so I had to replace it 🤦‍♀️

MrsG010814 · 26/03/2020 18:28

I always book my online shop weeks in advance and edit closer to the time. Why shouldn't people do it? Blame the panic buyers who have massively contributed to this issue and are now trying to do the same but online. I won't know what I need 3 weeks in advance therefore the need to edit. As full time working parents we need a particular time slot which is why I book in advance.

The whole point of online groceries is that you update until the day before. You add things to the basket/order as you'd add to your shopping list. And at the moment you have to keep finding replacements for out of stock items. So yes, you are being VU

1981m · 26/03/2020 18:40

Think it's completely impractical to do that. No one can foresee what they will/won't need a week in advance. I keep trying to edit my order and I can't as it keeps crashing. I need more things.

I think they should stop people making multiple orders to stop the system clogging up and allow others to be able to book. I know people who have booked deliveries every four days! Selfish I think

GhostsToMonsoon · 26/03/2020 18:41

At the moment you have to book the slot a few weeks in advance, so most people won't know what they will need three weeks in advance. We always start a shop off and then add to it as we think of things, run out of things, or come up with a meal plan.

SimonJT · 26/03/2020 18:46

I usually have an ocado order every fortnight, I’m fairly disorganised so when I remember I fill a trolley with £50 of beer. I did this about three weeks ago for an order that was due at the end of last week. Due to it understandably being very busy I couldn’t edit my order, so I just had beer delivered.

I’m a type one diabetic in SI due to my son having symptoms. £50 of beer wasn’t particularly useful when we only had enough rice left in the house for a single serving. Luckily for the four days we were without food I could afford to buy three takeaways a day for us. Not everyone has that luxury.

KatherineJaneway · 26/03/2020 18:46

I had a large order placed but it has been weeks since I could get online with Ocado and edit. Managed it today and slimmed down my order to just what I needed based on one recent shopping trip.

flossyflorenceflounces · 26/03/2020 18:48

They should be allowed to because then they can add things they need and so won't go to the shops to buy them and can remove things they don't need so they are still available for people who do need them.
I have an ASDA shop booked for April which includes toilet roll, I might not need it so I will remove it a few days before so it's available for others.

AdobeWanKenobi · 26/03/2020 18:50

Kind of defeats the point of an online food shop if you then have to go out to pick up what you've run out of in the week your online order was placed doesn't it?

DivGirl · 26/03/2020 18:50

Can people stop complaining about panic buyers? They released a study today saying panic buyers accounted for less than 3% of shoppers. This is almost all people needing more, and the supply chain not being able to cope.

StoorieHoose · 26/03/2020 18:50

If I hadn't been able to edit my order I would have been delivered about a quarter of the shopping I had ordered due to no stock. I was able to add different stuff to ensure I could actually feed my family

OtherVoices · 26/03/2020 18:52

I looked at the order I placed for delivery on Saturday 34/51 items are unavailable so I will be amending it tomorrow.
Sorry!

Must have bought a hell of a lot that 3% Nearly all shelves in 2 supermarkets I visited last week were bare.
