To think people should not be allowed to edit online food shops?

  1. clogs up the ridiculously busy servers
  2. people are using it to mess the system - eg booking several slots with bread and intending on editing nearer the time

It all feels so unnecessary and if people weren’t allowed to edit beyond the first shop perhaps the online queue wouldn’t be 10000000 long

YABU, sorry.

I had an order for just over £40 with our standard shop, but due to the fact that there will now be 3 adults working from home + a hungry preschooler, and we can't get a slot next week, I had to go in today and add more food for lunches during the week and stuff for next week.its now £120.

And I forgot to bloody add bread so I guess I'll be editing it again later lol

Ah, and chicken dippers!

Purpleclownsuit · 26/03/2020 19:59

Things aren’t reserved. If you want your shopping to come, you’ll be editing up to the last moment atm!

LolaSmiles · 26/03/2020 19:59

I had to edit my Tesco shop because they'd removed over 15 items that were in stock when I put the order in, went out of stock when I went to add in extras we'd ran out of, and then when I checked it the night before more items had been removed.

I don't do panic buying and I can get over them being out of stock of some items, but I'd love to put my order in and have the items I've ordered still on my order. Given it's been there a week, they know that I'm ordering vegetable oil so how can it be removed?

As a result we're having to do an online order and then a second trip to buy things that were removed or substituted (and some suggestedsubstitutions are silly eg shower gel is out of stock so would you like to replace it with femfresh wash?)

HoneysuckIejasmine · 26/03/2020 20:05

I assume you aren't a regular online shopper, OP?

I logged in the day before mine was due this week and had to replace about half the trolley with different brands or versions.

crispysausagerolls · 26/03/2020 20:08

I actually am! Relatively speaking anyway. I literally feel like a moron now who has been totally misusing and misunderstanding the online shopping system 🤷🏻‍♀️🙈🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Don’t they just automatically substitute for similar? like the time I ordered something delicious like strawberry laces and they substituted lame fucking gummy worms

We don't have Ocado here so can't comment on your experience however I have had a slot booked for Tescos for 2 weeks and at least 50% of the products are unavailable. When I made the order many of my normal basics range items weren't available but they are now - the day before the delivery.
The main thing I would say is that obviously your order isn't picked until the delivery day so by changing things you are not mucking up the warehouse/store system at all.

Zombiemum1946 · 26/03/2020 20:15

We're doing "supply runs" . The cars broken down, i managed to cancel the only online shop we'd been able to book, and I have a back injury. It did mean dh could take dd out for a walk and change of scene, now we can't even do that now. On the upside the stock in the shops is stabilising. We managed to get eggs, bread and milk today !!!!!! So chuffed I'm probably going to have a gin.

shinynewapple2020 · 26/03/2020 20:15

Eh? I booked my slot a fortnight ago as that was the first one I could get then. It's coming Saturday so will go on to amend tomorrow, fully expecting half the items to be out of stock or I will have other things in my basket I've since had to go out and get in person so will no longer need these things

Purpleclownsuit · 26/03/2020 20:16

Don’t they just automatically substitute for similar?

Their machine suggests what to sub it for but they can override it and choose something else. Bad luck if you get a bit of a joker. Have we all heard the urban legend of the shopper who received a pregnancy test as a condom sub? 😂

RishiSunakFanClub · 26/03/2020 20:19

If I hadn't checked before receiving my last order there would have been very little in it. I had to change it several times to ensure I received something approaching what I wanted. I shall be doing the same for Saturday's delivery.

It's pointless going online to book when all slots have been removed so I'm not sure how this impacts on anyone else anyway Hmm

Hahahaha!!!!!!

Just to be able to access a supermarket on line would be a good first step 🤬😡
I’m in the vulnerable group, isolating for 12 weeks and completely unable to access any of them.
I live 8 miles from the nearest supermarket and will have to brave it soon. If there’s a queue there’s no way I can stand still for more than 10 minutes before my blood pressure drops.
It’s utterly ridiculous and frankly frightening.

Strawberrycreamsundae · 26/03/2020 20:27

I am a regular shopper with Ocado, there are 96,893 people ahead of me in the queue. At 4.30 this morning there were no slots available for any supermarket.

babydogandi · 26/03/2020 20:27

We edited Ocado to take bits out for family members who had been able to recover and go to the shop and added a few bits for relatives that are showing symptoms who now can't go out

Shootingstar2918 · 26/03/2020 20:27

I have a slot booked Monday. I book them in advance.. With 2 kids I’m sure I’ll be able to think
Of
Something I need before Sunday night if they have it or course
So YABU.

adaline · 26/03/2020 20:28

Yes, you're being massively unreasonable.

I've managed to add stuff that was previously unavailable, saving me from going out to the shops.

SleepingStandingUp · 26/03/2020 20:31

I have nappies and baby milk on my list - 3 kids in nappies, two on stage 2 milk. If someone manages to get me some from the shop, a guaranteed purchase, I will take off the probably cancelled milk and nappies from my order. Or I'll just stockpile the extra eh Crispy? Cos if people can't edit they'll over order.

Toomuchgoingon · 26/03/2020 20:32

Now on ocado, you click a different link if you wish to edit. I went on to edit by queuing and had to wait for over 2 hours even though it said they had no slots....so it works both ways. I'm hoping the new link will avoid the several hour wait

Toomuchgoingon · 26/03/2020 20:34

Now it says there are no slots until tomorrow and the queue is still 176000 people........

flossyflorenceflounces · 26/03/2020 20:38

How are you getting in this queue? If I go to ocado.com it just asks me to log in.

PeterPanGoesWrong · 26/03/2020 20:49

Don’t be such a tit op!
I regularly edit my shop, I also get an organic veggie box, so sometimes when it arrives I need to add tomatoes or cabbage because they are not in my box.
Sometimes I decide I’d like something that’s not on my list, sometimes I see a recipe I want to try, or find my shoe polish has gone dry! Currently I’m sodding desperate right fir toilet roll! It’s probably not on my list.

People need to be able to edit, also, I placed my order almost three weeks ago, timed to arrive after I should be returning from a weekend away. I have no idea what’s on my shopping list.

897654321abcvrufhfgg · 26/03/2020 20:50

Rather that than them turn up with 1/4 of my ordered goods as others out of stock. Don’t be do selfish

Ladyglitterfairydust · 26/03/2020 20:58

I booked an Asda delivery slot on Monday, but it’s not due to be delivered until 13th April because that’s the soonest I could get. I’ve tried to add what I think I’ll need, but I’ll have to amend it nearer the time. I can completely see the logic in not amending, but unfortunately in reality I don’t think it’ll work.

Deux · 26/03/2020 20:58

When I book my slot, Tesco, I put just one item in my basket and check out to secure the slot. I don’t actually do the order until a few hours before the cut off time.

I thought that was the whole point of online shopping. Confused
