To think people should not be allowed to edit online food shops?

  1. clogs up the ridiculously busy servers
  2. people are using it to mess the system - eg booking several slots with bread and intending on editing nearer the time

It all feels so unnecessary and if people weren’t allowed to edit beyond the first shop perhaps the online queue wouldn’t be 10000000 long

I’m fairly disorganised so when I remember I fill a trolley with £50 of beer.

I don't get why you add beer, nice as it is, when you could just fill it with useful stuff!

Darbs76 · 26/03/2020 18:56

How would that work? Order it 3wks in advance and don’t update?

MinorArcana · 26/03/2020 19:04

My parents told me that their delivery slot is in a fortnight. They booked that a few days ago.

If you have to book the delivery slot more than 2 weeks in advance, and don’t edit it, it’s a bit trickier to predict what you’ll have run out of, or to select different stuff if some things show as unavailable a few days before the delivery slot.

And the large online queues are almost certainly because loads more people than usual are wanting to do online grocery shopping.

crispysausagerolls · 26/03/2020 19:05

@Darbs76

That’s what I’ve done. I assumed stuff I ordered would be reserved - now I’m
Concerned that’s not how it works at all 🤦🏻‍♀️

YABU. Nearly half my online order has gone out of stock! It’s random things like cereal and not necessarily toilet paper or pasta.

I’m in 12 week isolation, I have no other option.

Boredbumhead · 26/03/2020 19:08

Yabvvu

Redglitter · 26/03/2020 19:08

That's just a crazy idea. People are having to book a slot weeks in advance. How are you meant to predict what you'll need? What if stuff on your original order is now out of stock, you need to replace it. Not editing just wouldnt work.

Ocado seem a shambles compared to the other companies.

Marieo · 26/03/2020 19:10

I amend it, saves either taking stock I no longer need and sending it back with the driver. I do a full shop before checking out to secure the slot, but it's sensible. Maybe with the profit they are turning supermarkets will be able to invest in some better servers.

CottonSock · 26/03/2020 19:11

Are you the chief exec of ocado?

crispysausagerolls · 26/03/2020 19:12

@CottonSock

You surely have to edit it! I always have £40 of basics in to reserve my slot, then go in the night before with my meal plan.
But, especially now. I went in the morning before and my &60 basket was down to £11. So I had to amend everything.

crispysausagerolls · 26/03/2020 19:12

I have never heard of people doing this! I didn’t even know it was a thing, pre-corona. Colour me unreasonable/surprised 🤷🏻‍♀️😱

Lol

crispysausagerolls · 26/03/2020 19:14

Are people just waiting hours in the queue now?!

OP posts:
MissMoogle · 26/03/2020 19:23

I've always reserved my delivery slot in this way. Mainly because I have agoraphobia that likes to rear its head unexpectedly and I am primary unappreciated and unpaid by the government carer for my housebound disabled mother, who has stage 3 chronic kidney disease and type 1 brittle diabetes amongst other things, whilst being unwell physically and mentally myself.

Normally I use 2 or 3 ps4 games to reserve the slot. This allows me to make sure I dont order more than we need for us to eat for a fortnight, and to allow me to replace things like flour and spices etc.

God knows when I'll next get a slot. I forsee the next week or so living off a single petit filous yogurt and water. Happy to, as it means Mum gets decent nutritious meals with what bare minimum I've got left from 3 weeks ago.

StoorieHoose · 26/03/2020 19:23

You thought they reserved your items? 😂😂

StoorieHoose · 26/03/2020 19:24

I just waited an hour in Morrisons queue to find out they had no delivery slots available anyway

MissMoogle · 26/03/2020 19:25

At this point I must add, I'm also unsure whether shes made the governments vulnerable list either which is great as Scotland doesnt have the form england does to add a person at risk, and her social worker couldn't help me on who to contact.

blackteaplease · 26/03/2020 19:29

They dont reserve your items, they pick them off the shelves. In normal times you can amend up to the night before and there's no problem as there loads of stock.

In busy times like now, if you login to add stuff any unavailable stuff gets kicked out of your basket. If you leave it alone you will get substituted items if it's unavailable.

stayathomer · 26/03/2020 19:35

Must have bought a hell of a lot that 3% Nearly all shelves in 2 supermarkets I visited last week were bare.
I would think that's from people now being at home all day and no longer eating in canteens or restaurants so needing extra food in their houses

Honeyned · 26/03/2020 19:38

Nearly everything was out of stock on my shop so yes I had to amend the order, but I only found out by logging in to take something OFF my shop (mil left us a pack of nappies outside) so someone else could have it.

underneaththeash · 26/03/2020 19:51

I don't want to have things delivered that we won't eat! I hate waste.

I've had to book the slots so far in advance that I don't know what we will run out of.

crispysausagerolls · 26/03/2020 19:54

Also @Bluntness100 I’ve just been on the site to have a nosey and it says no slots available only to queue for editing so have to assume the 120000 people queuing currently only want to edit (or are illiterate)

OP posts:
womaninatightspot · 26/03/2020 19:56

I do this to get the special offers 10 quid meal deal, half price snacks whatever fruit and veg is on special normally deals run weekly so hard to know id advance.

StoorieHoose · 26/03/2020 19:58

The queue is to get access to the website. Once you have access you then have to log in and only then will they be able to show you if you have slits local to you.
