Can my children go out for another walk today?

1278kj · 26/03/2020 14:10

I’m aware it’s episode of exercise today. I have not been out today.

Basically my partner took dc and the dog out this morning before he went to work - he has to go to work. I was waiting in for a delivery so couldn’t go.

Going a little crazy and thinking of going out for a walk myself but that means two walks for dc today!

I live in a rural area. Hardly anyone around. Probably wouldn’t meet anyone and plenty of open space to socially distance anyway.

Aibu to take them out for another walk?

Ethelfleda you come across as incredibly anxious, you don't sound ok. You know this crisis has a long way to go yet...and you really do not sound normal - being this anxious will lower your immune system, I think it would be better for you to switch off from social media for a while.

MugsOfTea · 29/03/2020 11:32

FWIW I think questioning the rules is a good thing and I wouldn't assume all those questioning them are not following them.

I think this is very true. I don't think loads of people are flouting the rules - but I think loads are using sites like this to question, gauge and test them in public.

That's not a bad thing.

Talking about, asking about, thinking about a second walk are all safe activities.

You think I need to answer your question?
Why? You already know the answer.
Why do I need to reiterate what you already know? For your amusement and entertainment?

It's so simple. So, so simple. Really it is.
Nothing needs to be justified. Nothing needs to be explained. There is no question to be answered. Just do as your PM has asked. It's for a good reason.

Everyone knows it.

Excellently put Lotsa

Seems the cheeky fuckers of yore have been replaced by selfish entitled ‘the rules don’t apply to me’ fuckers of today

Crikey0000 · 29/03/2020 12:46

JUST FOLLOW THE RULES.

selfisolatingsince2007 · 29/03/2020 12:49

There is actually some useful legal clarification I found on this, apologies if already mentioned.

Police face battle to prevent people leaving their homes

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/senior-officers-divided-about-rules-to-deter-public-in-open-spaces-cb36j9njc

It may be behind a paywall but basically the key points are:

There is nothing in the legislation that says you can only go out once a day, only that you must be alone or with members of your household, and adhere to social distancing. I think as long as you aren't taking the mickey you're ok.

We have a dog and no garden so he needs two walks a day to toilet, so we have to take him. I'm pregnant so need to reduce my contact with others a lot, so its really on hubby to do that and the shopping.

MugsOfTea · 29/03/2020 12:56

UST FOLLOW THE RULES

Absolutely. Which, to recap are:

You can only go out...

  1. To obatin basic supplies which is food, medicine for you, your pets or other vulnerbale people. Or supplies for the essential upkeep or maintenance of your house, or the house of a vulnerable person, or t collect money from some types of business.
  2. To take exercise, alone or with others from your home [no limits placed on location, timing or frequency]
  3. To seek medical assistance
  4. To provide care of assistance for any vulnerbale person or to provide emergency assistance for anyone
  5. to donate blood
  6. To travel to and from work
  7. To go to a funeral of a relative or a friend
  8. To take part in legal proceedings or fulfil a legal obligation
  9. To access critical public services, such as childcare
10. To continue with parental access agrreements 11. To go to a place of worship if you are the worship leader 12. To move house where needed 13. To escape harm

Quite a list.

excuse the typos - dodgy keyboard Grin

JosieJasper · 29/03/2020 13:10

mooboy FFS, Talk about clueless. What a ridiculous attitude 🙄

IamAporcupine · 29/03/2020 13:22

@mooboy - I keep saying the same, the anger and blame (people WILL DIE) are totally misplaced. Years and years of underfunding the NHS and more recently kicking doctors and nurses back to 'their own' countries have led to this country not being able to cope. The government is the culprit, not the OP going out for a walk in the middle of nowhere.

PhilCornwall1 · 29/03/2020 13:23

@1278kj You do what you think, but don't ask or say what you are going to do on here OP, because you just know one option is going to make MN go nuclear and we don't need that on top of a pandemic Smile

mushlett · 29/03/2020 13:26

People’s reactions to this are completely mind boggling.
We live in a really rural area, we have no streetlights, no mains sewage no shops in walking distance. I never see anyone when riding or walking, I don’t touch any gates etc as there aren’t any.
We don’t all live the same. I could take 5 walks a day it wouldn’t make any difference to anyone, there is no one to spread a virus to. If you live in a town it’s a completely different ball game.
We live where we choose to live and not all rules can be applied the same way to everyone. It doesn’t make sense.

PhilCornwall1 · 29/03/2020 13:31

Your individual mental health just isn’t as important as the wider crisis here.

Sorry, but it is to me.

00100001 · 29/03/2020 13:36

@TimeForDinnerDinnerDinner

The OP is putting NOBODY at extra risk... If OP was going to the supermarket five times as day and licking door handles...then yes there's a problem.

But OP going for a second walk in an area where she touches nothing and encounters nobody makes no fucking difference to the spread of Covid-19.

If you genuinely think that OP is going to be risking the lives of people, by walking a second time.... please PLEASE tell me how she is doing this?

IamAporcupine · 29/03/2020 13:44

stop killing people

If you think about it is quite interesting - how has the government managed to put the blame on us?!

mooboy · 29/03/2020 13:48

The frothers need to start getting angry with the Gov!

PhilCornwall1 · 29/03/2020 13:50

If you think about it is quite interesting - how has the government managed to put the blame on us?!

Well, every bugger is blaming everyone else now. I was clearing weeds on the pavement side of my fence this morning and was told I was putting people at risk by being outside my house, this from a person who was, Err, outside his house and out for a walkHmm So I'm to blame for putting people at risk. The country is losing its mind.

Neverenoughcoffee · 29/03/2020 13:59

"The ‘I’m alright Jack because I live in the country’ attitude is very unpleasant when many are having to give up so much. So just because it’s not deemed dangerous or important in certain parts of the country are we able to break other rules and laws?"

First it's not the law.
I don't live in the country and I'm happy for people to apply logic and if they're walking out, not breaking any laws, not seeing a soul and not at risk of spreading the virus, as far as I'm concerned they're welcome.
Just because living in a city I need to be a bit more stringent, it doesn't mean someone living in different circumstances should have an equally difficult time. I'm happy for them.

If alright Jack people living in houses with massive amounts of land were trying to dictate to the rest of us never too leave our flat, that would be unpleasant.

IamAporcupine · 29/03/2020 14:00

That's what I mean, I find it interesting from a sociological point of view.
Why is it easier to blame a neighbour?
And people turning against each other is what leads to social unrest.

Neverenoughcoffee · 29/03/2020 14:09

@MugsOfTea
Thankyou for your very concise Sunday of the rules.

Neverenoughcoffee · 29/03/2020 14:10

Sorry, summary

Ethelfleda · 29/03/2020 14:13

That’s an interesting summary of the rules. It does appear though (according to MN) that absolutely anything else you choose to do whilst doing your daily exercise, is also permitted.

PhilCornwall1 · 29/03/2020 14:17

And people turning against each other is what leads to social unrest.

Completely agree. I was saying to my wife this morning, with this now in place something is going to kick off over the next few days. Within the space of a few days, we are now encouraged to turn against others. This "lockdown" is not going to end in a good way I feel.
