Can my children go out for another walk today?

I’m aware it’s episode of exercise today. I have not been out today.

Basically my partner took dc and the dog out this morning before he went to work - he has to go to work. I was waiting in for a delivery so couldn’t go.

Going a little crazy and thinking of going out for a walk myself but that means two walks for dc today!

I live in a rural area. Hardly anyone around. Probably wouldn’t meet anyone and plenty of open space to socially distance anyway.

Aibu to take them out for another walk?

What part of you can each go out for one lot of exercise a day do you not understand?

thecatneuterer · 26/03/2020 14:37

It is not a collective penance! Ha ha - well said! I would go OP.

Springbubble912 · 26/03/2020 14:37

We are rural - I’d go - we see Mostly no one and if we do it’s easy To keep our distance

Paperdaisychain · 26/03/2020 14:39

It’s totally fine, just go no need to blindly follow the rules just use your common sense.

yearinyearout · 26/03/2020 14:39

Yes it's fine

Leobynature · 26/03/2020 14:40

Why are grown women asking other women whether it’s acceptable if their children leave the house.
Parent up! Your their mother, assess the situation. If it’s safe to go out and you will have limited contact with others then go. if it’s not safe then stay in. We shouldn’t need the permission of others to do what’s right for ourselves and our families.

ChickenyChick · 26/03/2020 14:42

stop asking MN for approval

Do what you think/know is right :)

Bringonspring · 26/03/2020 14:42

I would

Ohjustboreoff · 26/03/2020 14:43

Er NO!!!! What part of essential outings only. Do you think you are special? Do you know something we don't?
All these people who don't go out for walks from one year to the next have suddenly decided that they know better than the government.
Want exercise, do an online class. Want fresh air, open a window.
I'm a frontline worker, potential putting mine and my families health on the line for idiots that can't follow rules!

ilovedjerrymore · 26/03/2020 14:45

@1278kj op please don’t come on here and ask these sort of questions - I mean that nicely! As you can see from some of the answers everyone will have something to say on it!
Everyone needs to use some common sense in certain situations going for a walk where no one else is is fine!

As long as you don’t come in to contact with anyone, Go as many times as you want! Have fun! Smile

cornishdreams1 · 26/03/2020 14:46

I think we should stick to the rules, or the small gift of going out once a day will be gone altogether.
If lots of people flout the rules, a complete lockdown will have to happen.

Hyrana · 26/03/2020 14:49

Yes of course they can! If you are not seeing anyone then you are free to do what you want. I cannot believe some of the responses here... obviously if you are in a flat in central London then don't go out if you are bumping into loads of people. Out out out side is totally fine.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 26/03/2020 14:50

What part of you can each go out for one lot of exercise a day do you not understand?

The part which is omitted for people who aren’t thick as pig to use their own common sense in a situation which will detrimentally affect no one but may well save the health and sanity of certain families in certain situations.

The rules are there to save the cross-contamination of people in busy places. If you are in a rural, quiet area this is highly unlikely to happen.
If the rules said “you can go out for one or more walks per day depending on your circumstances” people would interpret it to their own advantage. The government know people live in differing environments but they can’t say “if you live in a busy town it’s once a day, rural countryside it’s 3 times a day” as this would cause outrage.

I am able to have one walk a day as I have older dc’s and dh at home so it’s not a problem. If I had young dc’s with ADHD and an empty, open space to exercise them I would not think twice about going out again.

MasakaBuzz · 26/03/2020 14:50

@clareOclareO

No. The rules are there for a reason. Not following them means PEOPLE WILL DIE.

This quite honestly is scaremongering and pathetic. I think you should be embarrassed and deeply ashamed of yourself for posting it.

People living in rural areas will not cause deaths by going for an extra walk or walks, where they are unlikely to encounter anyone.

Unquestioningly and blindly following orders led to the Nazi gas chambers.

Common sense people.

OP take your kids out for another walk.

Justginnoschweppes · 26/03/2020 14:51

Yes I would. I live rurally too. We go out in the morning then late afternoon. We hardly see anyone let alone talk to them.

I think it’s ok to apply a bit of common sense where you can.

Busy town centre/park - no

Rural county lanes/fields where you won’t be in close contact with people or even see people - yes.

Who is going to tell the police if their is no one around for miles 🤷‍♀️

Justginnoschweppes · 26/03/2020 14:51

There

CoolCarrie · 26/03/2020 14:54

Yes, I would and washing everyone’s hands when you come home.

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/03/2020 14:56

I think I would use my common sense. You aren’t likely to come into contact with others due to your location, so I would go.

00100001 · 26/03/2020 14:56

People in MN are fucking morons.

If6 course you can go out for the second walk

In your situation,It's like saying you're only allowed in your back garden once every day.... :/

diddl · 26/03/2020 14:56

Was it stated only one form of outdoor exercise per person per day unless you live rurally?

SoupDragon · 26/03/2020 14:58

People in MN are fucking morons

I agree. All those people who are bending the rules to fit their own wishes are fucking morons. As are those who defend and encourage them.

00100001 · 26/03/2020 14:59

@diddl

How is OP going outside twice where no other people are, more than once putting someone at more risk than just going out once?

Who is OP putting at risk in that situation?

Justginnoschweppes · 26/03/2020 15:01

Can I go in to an empty field?

MN - NO PEOPLE WILL DIE!!

But there is no one in the field?

MN - ......... NO PEOPLE WILL DIE!

WorraLiberty · 26/03/2020 15:01

Thanks all. I just can’t see how it will harm anyone? We live in an area with masses of green space to walk in!

There seems to be an unusually large amount of rural Mumsnetters asking this question since lockdown.

Is there something about living in the countryside that means you can't just quietly make your own decisions? Grin

Movement05 · 26/03/2020 15:02

I definitely would. You live in a rural area and if social distancing is not a problem, then where's the harm? My area is more semi-rural and even during normal times, provided I avoided the shops, there wouldn't have been a problem with social distancing anyway!
