Can my children go out for another walk today?

I’m aware it’s episode of exercise today. I have not been out today.

Basically my partner took dc and the dog out this morning before he went to work - he has to go to work. I was waiting in for a delivery so couldn’t go.

Going a little crazy and thinking of going out for a walk myself but that means two walks for dc today!

I live in a rural area. Hardly anyone around. Probably wouldn’t meet anyone and plenty of open space to socially distance anyway.

Aibu to take them out for another walk?

"More country bumkins thinking the rules don't apply to them."

Or maybe they can understand them?

chomalungma · 27/03/2020 21:43

Best thing the police can do is not worry about a lone walker on the Peaks and instead worry about people going to non essential work (allowed) and people in crowded cities going to the countryside.

If you have limited resources, you focus them appropriately.

It puzzles me to see the contradiction in the law - gatherings of more than 2 people aren't allowed unless they are workers in a place that can't be done from home.

I worry about London. I don't worry about someone doing an extra walk in the countryside.

Blah1881 · 27/03/2020 21:50

Aaaargh!!! Sorry but I can’t help it! It’s ‘bumpkin’....

Rachel709 · 27/03/2020 22:02

I would. But some people would put you in prison.

MintyMabel · 27/03/2020 23:21

for 15 minutes max and can’t do it twice (Dd has a physical disability and cannot walk for miles)

@1278kj same here. Ten minutes is DD’s limit so we’re doing it twice a day. Never see anyone else anywhere near us.

Lovely13 · 28/03/2020 00:55

Of course you can do two walks in rural setting. Round here, my usual suburban empty parks are rammed. So having to be inventive and remember old haunts off the beaten track.

Litthefirealready · 28/03/2020 01:03

The difference between cities/towns and rural areas is massive. I went for a cycle with ds and saw four people, we all avoided each other like the plague (!), then later on dh took ds for a walk with the dog. They saw no one. We live in the countryside and hardly anyone is around so using my common sense I can see that we can go out without the danger of passing or contracting vivid-19. It’s a totally different situation in towns and cities.
Just use your brain and keep away from people.

Jesusisking · 28/03/2020 07:43

Let's take necessary precautions as already stated by the health authorities & pray

diddl · 28/03/2020 08:18

"But some people would put you in prison"

But Op wouldn't be breaking the law, so they'd have a job!

sixthtimelucky · 28/03/2020 08:50

I would OP in your specific position. I know it is a slippery slope, I know we all have to adhere to it. I myself am adhering to one walk a day and so are my teenagers. But they are not autistic and we are in a city. If I were you I would do it with no guilt. Don't lose your sanity over this x

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 28/03/2020 09:29

Some people really are as thick as pig shit and have absolutely no common sense or even intelligence and I’m not talking about the OP. Hmm

Even in the unlikely event you bump into someone In your rural area OP, adhere to social distancing.

jade9390 · 28/03/2020 09:59

If you are really in a rural area with nobody around, great. I would not even let my kids out in the city.

mooboy · 28/03/2020 10:06

I would not even let my kids out in the city. I think you are being extreme - there are people around where we live but everyone we encounter maintains a safe distance - getting outside is important, the risk is being exaggerated by social media. I expect you used to let your kids get into a car before the virus became your main worry - did you ever consider the danger they were in if they had an accident?

amiw · 28/03/2020 10:10

@BraceYourselfEffie you may be my current MN hero

BraceYourselfEffie · 28/03/2020 10:22

Aw shucks @amiw

SpillTheTeaa · 28/03/2020 10:30

As long as you don't come into close contact with people. I've gone out twice a day too. Very quiet where I live and at the moment people seem to be respectful enough that either I or them cross the road when on the same path to the next pavement or keep the 2m distance rule.

Stolengoat · 28/03/2020 11:39

The rules are amazingly simple, you can go out to get essential supplies, to get medical attention, to go to work (if you cannot work from home) or for one exercise a day. With some of the posts on here, we will be lucky if we're not still in lock down this time next year! It doesn't matter where you live or whether you think the rules apply to you or not, stay in, follow the rules, stop killing people!

Localocal · 28/03/2020 11:47

The spirit of the rule is to keep people away from each other and away from surfaces someone else might touch. I can't see how taking your children out again on foot, away from any other people, contravenes the spirit of the rules in any way.

Neverenoughcoffee · 28/03/2020 13:39

@Stolengoat the rules in your head are amazingly simple. The legislation says nothing about once per day. The law is what people need to adhere to, not the rules.

BraceYourselfEffie · 28/03/2020 13:44

The rules are amazingly simple, you can go out to get essential supplies, to get medical attention, to go to work (if you cannot work from home) or for one exercise a day.

In the spirit of accuracy there are also a number of other reasons you can go out - giving blood, moving house where necessary, to escape harm, for example.

Stolengoat · 28/03/2020 13:50

@neverenoughcoffee the whole world is in the grip of a killer pandemic, the guidance is simple, the legislation is only needed to ensure stupid people follow the guidance.

TimeForDinnerDinnerDinner · 28/03/2020 14:17

FGS just follow the rules.
It couldn't be simpler.
Stop looking for excuses.
Stop looking for exceptions.
Just. Do. It.
PLEASE. Angry

00100001 · 28/03/2020 15:33

@TimeForDinnerDinnerDinner

Who is OP putting at additional risk in her situation?

mooboy · 28/03/2020 15:41

stop killing people How is going for a second walk in an isolated area killing people? - did you you miss out on schooling or something, fall asleep in science class?

Nearly47 · 28/03/2020 16:09

Use common sense people! The objective of this rule is to increase social distancing. If there aren't other people where she is walking it is hardly going to be an issue. Go out guilty free OP
