Can my children go out for another walk today?

I’m aware it’s episode of exercise today. I have not been out today.

Basically my partner took dc and the dog out this morning before he went to work - he has to go to work. I was waiting in for a delivery so couldn’t go.

Going a little crazy and thinking of going out for a walk myself but that means two walks for dc today!

I live in a rural area. Hardly anyone around. Probably wouldn’t meet anyone and plenty of open space to socially distance anyway.

Aibu to take them out for another walk?

What if everyone did this. What would be the point of the government stating only one walk a day. They haven’t issued this for no reason.

As tough as it is for you everyone is in the same boat. I’ve not been out my house for 3 days now

That's true - and hopefully a degree of common sense is needed. The risk in a big city is far more than in a rural village and a walk in the country.

I am sure that most people will follow the spirit of the law.

But we do police by consent and the police have to follow the law.

The guidelines are there - and maybe there will be more crackdown - 50m from home - who knows.

But the police cannot make the law up. Law is made by Parliament and interpreted by the Courts. Not by the Police.

Unquestioningly and blindly following orders led to the Nazi gas chambers

Riiight - because following the law and recommendations of the CMO are a fast track to genocide 🙄

expatinspain · 27/03/2020 18:20

OP, here in Spain where the rules are stricter and the enforcement is shall we say, ‘stronger’, there are exceptions and autistic children fall into this category.

Aridane · 27/03/2020 18:20

Oh well, OP - just do whatever you want

mussymummy · 27/03/2020 18:23

My 5 year old was out for 2 albeit very short walks yesterday. At 8am she walked 2 blocks with me to my mums so they could touch hands through the window and say good morning to each other, then after dinner other half took her for a walk to see rainbows in windows.

clarehhh · 27/03/2020 18:24

No

ton181 · 27/03/2020 18:25

Just do it, but keep your social distance and everything will be fine

Twowilldo50 · 27/03/2020 18:26

If everyone goes out for many walks it increases the number of people out at any one time doesn’t it, and therefore increases the risk of infections someone or being infected. We just have to follow some rules for a very short time.

Choccylips · 27/03/2020 18:34

No ynbu i live on a very busy high rd in London it's like a normal day. No one taking a blind bit of notice. Traffic none stop apart from they didn't come to a stand still as usual. Last night after the clapping stopped some cretin let of a load of fireworks just to add more filth to the atmosphere.

hoopyloop2016 · 27/03/2020 18:36

No it's 9ne form of exercise or essential shopping a day. I'm home with 4 children we haven't gone further then the back garden and won't till we are able too. Not 9nky are you risking others but yourself too it's not worth it. Once a day simple easy follow it, or risk making the vounrable (like my youngest ill) but i guess people just really don't care at all.

trafficcarrots · 27/03/2020 18:41

Just remember OP, the rules only apply to everyone else rolleyes

You are lucky it's not full lockdown, you are granted your one walk a day, you chose to stay in for a delivery, if everyone had your attitude, you wouldn't even have that luxury.

DareToEatAPeach · 27/03/2020 19:12

That's not luck. It's not a gift.

longearedbat · 27/03/2020 19:24

@FelicisNox the rules don't say that at all. Read the legislation.

BambooSurprise · 27/03/2020 19:25

I honestly don't understand how quickly and easily people have moved from freedoms being rights, to being 'grateful' for limited reasons to go out.

I support the 'lock down' but it is a significant limitation on our rights. What is left isn't the bonus bit to be grateful for - it's just what is left when everything else is removed. It's not a grant, it has just not been taken away.

Plus, I expect out government to make decisions based on the science so either it's safe or it's not. They are not bestowing gifts on us - they are following the science.

It's like everyone's keen to play the child role in a parental relationship rather than equals in a partnership.

No, absolutely not. The.children will be arrested and thrown into jail for 100 years!!!!!! Come on peeps, use some common sense!!! Or try not to get caught-maybe some beard /moustaches on the youngsters🙄

DParse · 27/03/2020 19:37

The regional variations are a bit of an eye-opener.

I live in a tourist city. I normally can't walk down the pavement at this time of year.

The place is deserted. There are police out, quizzing the one car every hour which is on the roads.

It is unspeakably miserable, but everyone is sticking to it. The four shoppers in Lidl are looking at one another from about 10 metres away as if they might all have the Black Death.

If they bring in stricter regulations because people elsewhere can't keep their distance (and I have just upped my dose of antidepressants because of this - was suicidal a couple of years ago, and social contact is the only thing that keeps me sane), it will not end well.

Neverenoughcoffee · 27/03/2020 19:50

Have a look at the actual legislation. Unless in Wales, there's nothing about once per day and certainly no time limit.

DowntownAbby · 27/03/2020 20:20

As I said before:

LAST WEEK

MNers - OMG!! Government need to act now! We should be on lockdown! They are killing us all with their inaction!! OMG!!!

THIS WEEK

MNers - Yeah, but when the government said we must stay at home, it didn't mean me. You're stupid if you're just following the instructions to the letter, etc, etc.

In fact, I don't think we'd even got to 300 posts on this thread before Godwin's Law was invoked.

It's quite incredible.

BambooSurprise · 27/03/2020 20:27

It's bonkers huh - almost like there are individual people behind the posts with different opinions, rather than a hive mind.

Stolengoat · 27/03/2020 20:58

More country bumkins thinking the rules don't apply to them.

mooboy · 27/03/2020 21:10

Given Boris and his chums got the virus - it looks like the rules didn't apply to them either.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 27/03/2020 21:11

More country bumkins thinking the rules don't apply to them.

Wow! The jealousy is just eating you up, isn’t it?
