How can anyone look At what is happening around the world and still think it’s okay to go to their holiday rental/get their nails done etc?
I don’t know whether some posters are deliberately obtuse or genuinely don’t understand (not sure how much clearer Boris could have made it tbh) but I’m actually more scared now than I have been previously due to some of the posts on here tonight

We’ve got no hope have we?

I’m getting so annoyed with people now. One colleague aged 60 was out in Asda on Tuesday her DIL and newborn grandson. Colleague and grandson are not not well (don’t know if it’s CV) but why did the 3 of them need to go)? She’s now out at the bank with her son today.

Someone on FB asked if B&M was open today as they were in yesterday but wanted to go today again (what essentials do you need 2 days in a row from B&M)?

People just aren’t getting it that every trip outside is potentially exposing them and potentially spreading CV. If everyone thought like this well all be infected within a week!!!

Eckhart · 26/03/2020 12:35

I think it's good that people are asking for clarification. Even if it's annoying and they're being bloody stupid, it is a good opportunity to talk to them about the risks/remind them of social distancing/help them to realise if they're taking the piss re the rules.

It's quite another people disregarding the rules altogether because they feel immune for some undefined/inexplicable reason. They just need a swift poke in the eye (with a 2 metre long stick)!

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 26/03/2020 12:39

Does it matter whether she had underlying issues or not

Of course it doesn’t.

Its quite obviously not that part of your post that i had an issue with or was calling shitty

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 26/03/2020 12:40

Did NOT expect the, er, 'lack of helpfulness' from this thread!

Are you new? Grin

sweetkitty, why don't you ask them if you're curious? Nobody else will know, will they?

B&M sells a wide range of stuff, including food items that people don't generally think to shop there for, also masses of cleaning products quite cheaply. Aside from this virus, people are still getting ill with the seasonal colds, flu, vomiting and diarrhoea bugs. It's a cheap shop and every penny really does count for many people.

Or she could just be flouting the rules.

Why ask here if not to froth and get others to froth with you?

Mothership4two · 27/03/2020 02:40

@madcatladyforever

I can see how squabbles over dog walking would get up your nose.

Mothership4two · 27/03/2020 02:49

Daniella Dos Santos, president of the British Veterinary Association (BVA) said dog owners should use this (leaving the house for daily exercise once a day) as an opportunity to give their pets a good exercise, while observing two-metre social distancing requirements and advised people living alone who have no access to a garden and need to take their pet out to be “pragmatic and very sensible”.She said the BVA’s interpretation is that they should “keep as close as possible to your property and be very certain to follow social distancing and return to your property straight away as soon as the dog has toileted”.

Duchessofblandings · 27/03/2020 09:17

.”She said the BVA’s interpretation is that they should “keep as close as possible to your property and be very certain to follow social distancing and return to your property straight away as soon as the dog has toileted”.

Pretty clear. Quite how people will interpret that as driving miles for a ramble in the countryside, not sure. But they will.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 27/03/2020 09:23

The segment you have quoted duchess is about toiletting

As you sat very clear

Its the exercise bit dog owners should use this (leaving the house for daily exercise once a day) as an opportunity to give their pets a good exercise which might mean people feel they need to drive somewhere

Duchessofblandings · 27/03/2020 09:29

That is contradictory, I agree Rufus.

People should watch police videos for very, very clear guidance of what is and isn’t “essential”. Couldn’t be more unambiguous really.

Stepfather is in the middle of nowhere, about 7 miles from a large conurbation in the West. public footpaths (most through pretty dull farmland, sorry farmers 😁) deserted for as long as he can remember. They’re so inundated that now, at 76, he’s too scared to go for his constitutional and staying in his garden.

Eckhart · 27/03/2020 09:44

It's not contradictory. Dogs only get one long walk a day. Any other walks are only until they toilet.

Leflic · 27/03/2020 11:00

People with dogs also need to think about poo bags, We’ve had a notice to say bins both public ( and the park ones are closed already) and domestic won’t be emptied as often.
I think the walkers might have to carry a spade to dig them where possible and to take them home where not. Town will be full of poo bags otherwise.

sweetkitty · 27/03/2020 11:02

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe thanks for that
I found out what he was out for - decorating materials for his hall from B&M

I’ve been out for our weekly shop this morning totally surreal experience the queuing to get in, 2 metre rule etc. Only strange thing was the number of elderly out and about. Feel so sorry for them if they have no one to fetch them in food.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 27/03/2020 11:21

Same sweet I haven’t been in a supermarket for nearly 2 weeks until today

I was getting looks from a particular woman and I couldn’t figure out what her issue was until i realised there were one way arrows on the floor...felt i had to apologise to her as i was leaving, from a distance obviously!

Eckhart · 27/03/2020 12:39

Thanks for pointing that out, @Leflic. Definitely worth getting people to think about that before the issue arises.

StealthPolarBear · 27/03/2020 12:49

Bbc news have just suggested people came out of self isolation last night to show their appreciation Shock

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 27/03/2020 16:55

sweetkitty, I agree with you about the elderly and the vulnerable - most of the supermarkets (if not all now?) are reserving home delivery slots for them.

I used to love home delivery but, there's no reason why I as a fit and healthy woman, can't do my own shopping so I do.

As far as this DIY man goes, meh... if he's going to any shops now, they're all practising social distancing most diligently and what people buy is immaterial. Yes, perhaps he shouldn't be out shopping but, do you know that his B&M trip didn't include other purchases from the shop? Or that his shopping trip didn't involve other shops for food?

That's' the thing, we just don't know. I don't understand why people (not you) are so keen to sit and type a volley of insults about and to people they don't know. It doesn't help anybody and I don't think it's good for people to have a platform to do that... they've been doing it a lot lately.

sweetkitty · 27/03/2020 18:11

I went just after the 8-9am elderly slot but quite a lot in the queue to get in were elderly. A few of us let an elderly man skip in didn’t want him waiting out in the cold for half an hour. He was shuffling with his wee shopping trolley felt so sorry for him.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 27/03/2020 18:17

That was nice of you, we should all be doing that. Taking a bit of care of people less able than we are. You/the others made a difference to him. :)

DowntownAbby · 28/03/2020 22:34

Just look at how many in this thread are encouraging the OP to ignore the guidance/rules.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/3864497-Daughter-24-wants-to-come-home?watched=1&msgid=95115588#95115588

Fucking appalling.

Sostenueto · 29/03/2020 08:50

As expected tighter measures will be rolled out within a week judging by Michael Goves avoidance of what further measures will entail. We are all going to get a letter from the PM in the next week which will be a change from bills. This is what happens when people don't comply!hmm

Bathroom12345 · 29/03/2020 09:04

DS did a shift at supermarket yesterday. Yet again same elderly people queueing every day for the early morning slot. Manager has spoken to the assisted living home behind the store as it’s the same people who normally come in every single day. They really don’t seem to get what they are meant to be doing. A couple asked whether the early slot could be kept once this is all over!

Still families and kids running around. Manager did speak to women and man with 3 children under 10. They said they felt perfectly fine and the kids were going stir crazy at home....

That is what you are up against.

Sadly I think until people start to know someone who has died it won’t sink in. I am hearing that a further lockdown is being considered. I have to say supermarkets should state ‘one person per family’. Of course single parents are different but they should make every effort to find someone to look after their children for a hour. Mother, daughter and grandson came in yesterday. Just why??

PLEASE, THESE RULES ARENT FOR OTHERS! THEY ARE FOR YOU TOO.

Pipandmum · 29/03/2020 09:18

He was absolutely clear. Four reasons. Food, medical reason, one bout of exercise, or work. If it doesn't come under one of the four, then stay at home.

Bathroom12345 · 29/03/2020 09:23

PIP. Thing is ‘some’ people think it cannot possibly mean them. Why were there two adults with young child queueing at supermarket. Why elderly person coming out for a newspaper? Why still couple shopping? Because they have always done it, nothing is going to stop them, rules aren’t for them.

Stuff anyone else, they feel fine so why not!
