AIBU to despair about the amount of posters who already think the rules don’t apply to them?

How can anyone look At what is happening around the world and still think it’s okay to go to their holiday rental/get their nails done etc?
I don’t know whether some posters are deliberately obtuse or genuinely don’t understand (not sure how much clearer Boris could have made it tbh) but I’m actually more scared now than I have been previously due to some of the posts on here tonight

We’ve got no hope have we?

I don't think it's ageist but more of a failure to recognise that some people have nobody. Obviously that's more likely with the elderly/over 70s, my Mum is nearly 90 and has nobody but us as she's watched all her friends pass away over the last few years. Mumsnet generally seem to think that everybody has family or friends at their beck and call when it's a crisis like this but the reality is that some people who really should be self isolating are going to have to go and shop if they are to avoid starvation.

Christ this is cheerful.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 25/03/2020 03:14

The amount of Facebook posts and emails which came after The PMs shutdown. Yet they all said “we have thought long and hard about this decision but decided to close for the safety of our customers”. Nope they closed because they had to

nannybeach · 25/03/2020 06:27

Anyone watch the News last night, arogant fuckers (I dont say that lightly, I hate swearing) in North London, all bulked up in their tight t-shirts, saying the drove round to find an outside gym, most had tape over them, they fond one that didnt. Reporter asks his bloke, "arnt you concerned", him, "Oh, yeah I am worried for MYSELF, (he obviously isnt, he wouldnt be using the equipment)but I am healthy". What a prick! A BBQ in Birmingham, sounds like the title of a corny sit-com. People crowded on the Tube, you cant tell me they are all key workers. If Boris had closed schools weeks ago, he would have been accused of scaremongering (a friend of mine actualy said he WAS, she in in a very high risk group, with 3 serious health factors) and there would have been outrage about people not being able to get to work

nannybeach · 25/03/2020 06:28

You are correct silvery, you could be 70 and fit as a fiddle, young overweight eat junk, smoke, take drugs.

Eckhart · 25/03/2020 06:37

@Lifeisgenerallyfun So, given that your advice was bad advice because it wouldn't work, and given that dogs generally need a short walk in order to toilet, do I break the law or not?

All other countries have been given guidance re dogs.

There is nothing snidey here. I'm asking you a simple question.

And I don't know why you're thanking me for giving blood yesterday. I'm guessing that's you being snidey. Anyway my next appointment isn't until April, because of how recent my last one was.

daisypond · 25/03/2020 06:53

People crowded on the Tube, you cant tell me they are all key workers.
Everyone has to go to work if they cannot work from home and if their job hasn’t been shut down by their employer or government. It is not just key workers. It’s not the employees’ fault.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 25/03/2020 06:56

I am a key worker, I received an official letter from work in case anyone checks when I’m
On my way, I will be crowding the Tube and I’m dreading it.

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 25/03/2020 07:09

@eckhart, here’s what you can do. Make a decision on how you are going to solve your problem. It is your problem not anyone else’s. There’s lots of people trying to sort their own particular issues out with this and quietly getting on with it. There’s people looking after horses who need to go twice a day and sorting this out themselves. My dad is stuck in a care home with rapidly deteriorating dementia and by the time this is over will likely have forgotten who I am. He takes his comfort from holding my hand and has little interest in talking. So the phone is no good. Do I expect detailed guidance on that? No, I’m an adult and trying to deal with it myself.

Re blood donation, no I genuinely thought given the urgency of your question you must have had a blood donation appointment yesterday.

eeyore228 · 25/03/2020 07:20

It was clearly set out, sadly this has highlighted the fact that a large proportion of people don't believe anything applies to then. It also shows people cannot use common sense and have a real issue with self-care. This was certainly the case before COVID-19, it has merely made it more obvious particularly where I work. Its the saddest thing to see.

Sostenueto · 25/03/2020 07:22

I have a great message the government could use.......

Defoe:

“It was very sad to reflect how such a person as this had been a walking destroyer perhaps for a week or a fortnight before that; how he had ruined those that he would have hazarded his life to save, and had been breathing death upon them, even perhaps in his tender kissing and embracings of his own children.”

Eckhart · 25/03/2020 07:22

So, after all that engagement with me and how difficult I was being and about how clear it is, and how people like me are just intent on being difficult and how we should all just stick to the clear and simple guidelines: you can't actually come up with a clear and simple guideline for someone in my situation.

So really, when I said 'What shall I do about my dog?' You might as well have said, as you just have 'Dunno, Eckhart, mate. Bit of a conundrum, there!' Once again, you argue my point for me: the guidelines are not clear. They were however, clear for your situation re your dad. Hard though it is, STAY AT HOME. Did you not hear what Boris said??

Over to you, for the last word. You've made my point for me enough times, now, so I'm butting out! Have a good Wednesday :)

youcantellthem · 25/03/2020 07:25

I saw this quote on an online newspaper and thought it was very apt for those who think they can argue the toss over what they should and shouldn't be doing and try to find loopholes! xx

AIBU to despair about the amount of posters who already think the rules don’t apply to them?
daisypond · 25/03/2020 07:26

It’s very depressing that the Cambridges have all left London for their second home in Norfolk. Shocking, actually.

Eckhart · 25/03/2020 07:35

youcan I'm stuck between the guidelines and animal cruelty. Not trying to find loopholes. My life does not feel normal and I'm not trying to make it feel normal. I'm very strict about social distancing and fully understand the guidance, and the need for it.

It has gaping holes though. Hopefully things will be made clearer to us soon so that large swathes of us aren't breaking the law to do things that are genuinely essential.

youcantellthem · 25/03/2020 07:40

Hi @Eckhart I wasn't responding to your post specifically, apologies.

Understand regarding concerns about animals etc. Hope things become clearer soon x

madcatladyforever · 25/03/2020 07:42

The PM has made it crystal clear.
He is on tv everyday, there is nothing more he could have said to make it clearer.
There are loads of online guides telling us exactly what we can and can't do. I've read at least 5 of them.
I am sure if he came on tv today and said anyone setting foot outside their homes will be shot by armed guards I am quite sure nobody would go outside.
People choose not to listen, they are selfish bastards who don't see why they should be inconvenienced or change anything and because coronavirus isn't a black mysterious visible dust spreading across the sky it doesn't exist.
What part of stay at home is it hard to understand?

JudyCoolibar · 25/03/2020 07:52

It's hardly surprising that there were so many people commuting to work yesterday given that we had no notice period before lockdown. You can't tell people to work at home and not expect them to have to go into their offices to pick up the files and equipment that they will need for that purpose. It would have made more sense to allow a day's grace, and probably to lay on the full complement of trains for that day so that they wouldn't get so crowded.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 25/03/2020 08:27

am sure if he came on tv today and said anyone setting foot outside their homes will be shot by armed guards I am quite sure nobody would go outside

I’ll put whatever money you like on the fact that some people still would

Eckhart · 25/03/2020 08:28

madcatlady 'Stay at home' is crystal clear, but there are holes in the 'exceptions' guidelines. Many fall into these holes and are having to make their own decisions. There are calls all over the headlines for clarity. It's not just people looking for loopholes.

It's very poor form to be calling people in this situation 'selfish bastards'.

Eckhart · 25/03/2020 08:30

am sure if he came on tv today and said anyone setting foot outside their homes will be shot by armed guards I am quite sure nobody would go outside

What's the relevance of this? Of course, in a different situation, we would all behave differently. What was the actual point that this statement was backing up?

flossyflorenceflounces · 25/03/2020 09:36

It’s very depressing that the Cambridges have all left London for their second home in Norfolk. Shocking, actually.

When did they go? Shock

I was having a shower this morning, bathroom window open, and could hear several of my neighbours having a good old chinwag. DS opened his curtains (front of house) and they were all standing in a group at the end of our drive as if nothing was happening in the world - no personal distance, about 8 of them. I hope the chap over the road who is in the police was observant. Angry

Cissyandflora · 25/03/2020 09:42

@Eckhart ‘poor form’ to call people out for being selfish bastards? I’d go further than call them out. I would put an indelible mark on their forehead that indicates they are not to have treatment from the NHS should they become ill. Disgraceful that people have so little respect for others.

madcatladyforever · 25/03/2020 09:50

My dept has rung everybody to say routine clinics have been cancelled and they will be informed when they are open again. Mostly because the staff are now doing emergency home visits or are working in more acute areas.

However, they are to ring if there is a problem or their condition has escalated and now constitutes an emergency.

Bear in mind I too, as an older member of staff, have also had my routine clinics cancelled - I'm due my 6 monthly spinal steroid injections, have had my spinal operation cancelled and I'm working full time wearing buprenorphine patches to cope with the pain which is a strong opioid.

I've had numerous people walk from their homes way across town into the hospital and start shrieking at the reception who call me out to talk to them because they can't cope - so the person is literally screaming right in my face - about their very minor routine clinic being cancelled and how it is my fault.

This week I have been called a useless cunt, have been accused of using coronavirus as an excuse to slack off and do nothing and demanding to be seen right now.

I have fantasies about being able to call in the army or the police and have them punted off the premises by force.

The times I've heard the phrase, "I've paid my stamp for 150 years and I want........"

madcatladyforever · 25/03/2020 10:28

Eckhart - what part of don't go out do you not understand. I get that you really hate the tories and want to rebel against everything they say like a but nonetheless I'm afraid you going to have to go with this one.

I don't give a living shit about your dog problems, all I care about is not dying right now, none of my loved ones dying and not having to look after a ward full of ventilated people 48 hours a day because nobody can understand what not going out means.

We have coronavirus in our hospital and all my annual leave has been cancelled, my spinal operation has been cancelled, my life has been cancelled and unless people stop quibbling about every single portion of the instructions we have been given we're going to be Italy in three weeks.

I suggest you do what I do. Order puppy pads online or hang onto newspapers. My 18 year old cat is often incontinent because she can't always get to her litter tray downstairs in time and is too old to go out.

I have a puppy pad or a wad of newspapers in each room which she uses if she can't get to the tray. If I can train my cat to do it I'm sure you can train your dog. Go on the newspaper - get a treat. It's dead easy. Paper in a bin bag. Job done.

If you have a brain you can figure it out. I just think you don't want to.

BelleharePenguin09 · 25/03/2020 10:31

I don't give a living shit

Disgusting.
