How can anyone look At what is happening around the world and still think it’s okay to go to their holiday rental/get their nails done etc?
I don’t know whether some posters are deliberately obtuse or genuinely don’t understand (not sure how much clearer Boris could have made it tbh) but I’m actually more scared now than I have been previously due to some of the posts on here tonight

We’ve got no hope have we?

Can you link to all the times this has happened since 8.30?

I do completely agree with you though. We all should have been doing this for the last few weeks.

LouiseTrees · 23/03/2020 23:40

It’s happened loads since 8.30!

zombiepara · 23/03/2020 23:41

It is fucking ridiculous.

Although he didn't explicitly say "lockdown", he did say "stay home" so many times I can't see how people missed it.

This is how Italy got to where it is.

Let's not be like them.

I'm dreading returning to frontline ambulance work Friday night, the only benefit will be no drunks in pubs and clubs. From colleagues, all I keep hearing is people phoning 999 to be "checked over"

Just no.

Follow the guidance.

Self isolate.

STAY HOME.

zombiepara · 23/03/2020 23:42

PP, I've seen at least 3 threads since 2030, and thats just in the past 5 minutes of looking.

WorraLiberty · 23/03/2020 23:42

I'm not sure if YABU or not.

I've seen some really daft questions asked but equally I've seen people getting their heads bitten off for asking genuine questions, that other people consider daft.

These really are unprecedented times and many people are confused. It'll all be made much clearer during the next few days.

I certainly wouldn't get scared over random people on the internet asking questions.

Holiday cottage Posted at 10.30pm.

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 23/03/2020 23:43

He was too fluffy and wishy washy. Should have had some balls and gone as strict as Spain and Italy because people are thick wankers and think they're special and different and can just do whatever the fuck they want.

Dennisreynoldsduster · 23/03/2020 23:45

I thought he was quite clear. Not sure what there was to misunderstand.
All the people posting “my dog needs two walks and I must run twice a day”... just NO.

OP posts:
SapphireSalute · 23/03/2020 23:45

It’s been like a bank holiday at work today. Parents bringing kids in store....they just don’t get it! We don’t want your kids near us fgs!!

Willow2017 · 23/03/2020 23:47

Theres really no need to link, there are posts all over the place!
But here you go, here is one of them www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3859070-To-even-consider-staying-in-a-holiday-cottage?msgid=94968700

Its not allowed to repost things from other threads but there are plenty of posts where people are asking 'is it ok to...' or "quoting" Boris completely wrongly and saying it as fact!

Kljnmw3459 · 23/03/2020 23:48

There's lots of people on social media arguing that it's not a lockdown because he didn't say lockdown... so therefore it's still ok to meet up with others, visit places etc........

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 23/03/2020 23:49

Self isolate.

STAY HOME.
It's bad when a member of the ambulance service doesn't understand the difference between self-isolating and social-distancing. We are being told, as a population, to socially distance ourselves from others. We are not being told to self-isolate.

If we have to self-isolate then we are not allowed to go out at all, not even for food and medicines. Others would have to do that for us.

playthestation · 23/03/2020 23:49

YANBU

Smellbellina · 23/03/2020 23:50

BJ was not half as clear as he needed to be. He’s like Mr Tumble telling adults to self isolate. He’s a happy go lucky PM for a happy go lucky time, wine and dine and lay the foundation for his retirement and moment in history. What he’s got is Brexit, Covid-19 and a a global economic recession. And it shows. He actually reminded me a bit of Elmo in his broadcast tonight.

LastTrainEast · 23/03/2020 23:51

Drives me crazy too, but maybe it doesn't matter if some act stupidly. We're not trying to stop the spread but even it out. Those who can't follow simple instructions can simply be the next batch to fall ill.

Deadsouls · 23/03/2020 23:52

I totally agree with you OP.

People are not getting the severity of the situation and want to make their own interpretations on what constitutes 'essential travel' to fit with their own wants.

They want to find every possible loophole to justify why the rules don't apply to them.

Apirateslifeforme · 24/03/2020 01:28

Even my husband pointed out BOJO was not clear enough in his speech, and coming from him that is something! Hes a waffler himself.

STAY THE FUCK HOME.
If youre hungry, and there is no food in the house, leave, buy food and go straight home.
If you need medicine, get it if theres no other option.
If you fancy a walk, then go, dont take the piss. Its not a day out. You have a dog? Maybe if you're a family, take it in turns to walk it? Or the dogs 2nd/3rd walk of the day can be in the garden if you have one.
Other than that, you're in.
Make the most of whatever you have on TV, the chores around the house. Cooking, anything but FGS follow the rules, and leave 111/999 alone if you dont really need them.
The quicker we all follow the rules, the quicker this can all be over with.

shortandsweet1 · 24/03/2020 01:38

Apirate this! Just don't go out unless it's absolutely necessary. Boris doesn't have to make it clear. It's clear. Don't go out! Self isolate/social distance. Who gives a damn about terminology. Don't go out. I'm a teacher and I have to go to work, albeit not full time, and I hate that I'm even leaving the house for work. Don't go out!

Upthehillanddownagain · 24/03/2020 03:32

I thought Boris was perfectly clear. Stay at home, go out as little as possible and only for essentials.

But there will always be some people who are so entitled, arrogant, selfish and/or stupid that they will always believe that somehow the rules don't apply to them. And they will tie themselves in knots to make sure they find a justification, usually it's why they're a special case.

And I think they would do the same if Boris actually used the word lockdown. Other countries which have used that term specifically are still having to use police, and in some cases troops, to enforce it for those few who think the restrictions can't possibly apply to them - because (and as we should all be falling over ourselves to recognise) they are SPECIAL.

The rest of us would think they were selfish idiots. But according to them, we'd be wrong.

SandyGotMarried · 24/03/2020 04:24

@NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite
Zombiepara's advice is correct. If people are displaying symptoms that warrant a 'check over' by paramedics, they should be self isolating.

FlowerArranger · 24/03/2020 04:36

Spare a thought...

Jordan has shouldered far more than its fair share of refugees from across the region. On farms, in the poorer quarters of cities and in sprawling camps, more than 650,000 Syrians are also confined to their homes. There are few more resilient communities in the world, but most cannot afford to stockpile food for weeks.

CaptainMax · 24/03/2020 04:54

My issue with the announcement by johnson was his repeated use of the word "should".

Collins definition "You use should when you are saying that something is probably the case or will probably happen in the way you are describing."

there is no "probably" about the situation.

e.g. "you should not be meeting friends"
replace this with "you cannot meet friends" and you have an order, not a suggestion.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 24/03/2020 05:39

I'm going to work today. But only because I can't work from home without collecting some essential stuff. But feeling guilty about leaving the house even though will be in the car the whole way there and back, and also then in a building alone without anyone else in.

Whenwillthisbeover · 24/03/2020 05:49

I totally agree, very after the announcement there were posts such as “can I walk my big dog three times a day then go for a run” “can u cut my mums grass” and this morning on BBC news Sports Direct intend to ignore the non essential shops bans as they and their Karrimor trainers are an essential item.

Sparklfairy · 24/03/2020 06:08

Within minutes of the announcement, someone posted on the local FB group 'are we on lockdown?' About a third of people said 'No'!!

Cue arguments from people saying of course we are and idiots bleating 'but he didn't say the word!' 'he wasn't clear!'

I mean, I know half of the population are of below average intelligence, but really. I'm still trying to work out how many people just simply thick as mince, and how many are practising wilful ignorance. As a PP said above, far too many people think they're 'special' Angry

On a plus note, someone else posted on the same group a little later that they were stopped by the police on their way to their (key worker) job. Others commented that police were already outside supermarkets questioning people.
