AIBU to despair about the amount of posters who already think the rules don’t apply to them?

How can anyone look At what is happening around the world and still think it’s okay to go to their holiday rental/get their nails done etc?
I don’t know whether some posters are deliberately obtuse or genuinely don’t understand (not sure how much clearer Boris could have made it tbh) but I’m actually more scared now than I have been previously due to some of the posts on here tonight

We’ve got no hope have we?

@Micaela64 Insult me all you want. His very poor communication style could be used as a guide of how not to communicate.

Bathroom12345 · 24/03/2020 09:02

Thing is that lots of companies in big cities are demanding their employees come in hence the shocking pictures of the tube this morning. Who are all those people?

alloutoffucks · 24/03/2020 09:05

I am in a face book group for a hobby, it has a lot of older women in it. They are all lovely, all very law abiding types, but a minority are not very bright.. I have already spent some of this morning saying -

  • no you can only go out a walk with people you live with, household does not mean other family members who live near by
  • no you can't meet up with 1 other person as long as you stay 2 metres apart

I know some will try and find loopholes. I also know these women and they stick to the rules and are ultra law abiding - would return to a shop to give back change if they have been given too much types - and some don't understand exactly what he said.

So some of you can throw insults all you want, but his communication is not clear. He needs to take and follow advice from actual communication experts. Bullet point style delivery, very common clear wording that an 8 year old would understand.

alloutoffucks · 24/03/2020 09:07

Of course companies are demanding staff come in. Boris said anyone who can't do work from home can still go to work.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 24/03/2020 09:08

Thank fuck for WorraLiberty.

Why is it, that this site - the home of inane conversation and daft questions - is now chock full of posters and posts - like the op's - berating other posters for asking questions? Whether they've been answered a million times before - any other subject would be tolerated. This one happens to be important.

But no, the tin-pot dictators who believe that they're doing something terrrrr-ibly important, post to belittle the question-askers and then post attention-seeking, vacuous threads.

Be in despair if you like, OP, so many seem to be. Or, you could be a bit more tolerant and just quietly roll your eyes at the questions you believe are beneath your attention. That would be more helpful and infinitely more pleasant for the rest of us.

This isn't just levied at you, OP, there seems to be a band of posters who can't function without having a pop... bit like a herd really. I wish it would stop. We don't need this. It doesn't help (if that is even the intention at all).

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 24/03/2020 09:12

MN has felt like accidentally walking into the middle of a drunken street brawl, asking for directions, and getting punched in the face

Absolutely

Nanamilly · 24/03/2020 09:13

The reality is that BJ didn’t impose a lockdown. He put a few things in place that amount to nothing more than limiting a persons freedom to a lesser extent.

A proper lockdown would involve a curfew.

TheCanterburyWhales · 24/03/2020 09:18

The advice will undoubtedly be tweaked over the coming days as it has been in other countries. First, you are given advice (should- mild obligation/advice) then, when people decide to interpret that as "but I can decide to do the opposite" , the restrictions will become harsher until everyone really is doing what they should Wink have been doing all along.
I think, in fairness to Boris, after saying a few days ago that he had no intention of restricting travel because Britain isn't like that and us built on freedom of the individual, he'd have looked a bit of an idiot to move straight onto "have to or you'll be fined"
He's hoping, as many govts in locked down countries initially did, that people will automatically a) understand b) do the right thing.

Not going to happen if MN is a microcosm in the macrocosm fo' sho'

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 24/03/2020 09:25

And i agree with lying

worras post was great

MediocreOmens · 24/03/2020 09:25

I am the furthest you can get from a Boris fan and I really don’t think he could have been much clearer. All language is open to interpretation but in this case it should be taken at face value. Do not leave your house unless you have to go to work, you need food or medicine, you need to help a vulnerable person with essential care or once a day for a walk. I think if you need to analyse and reanalyse the message to allow for your exact scenario, then err on the side of caution and stay home.

feelingverylazytoday · 24/03/2020 09:26

firsttimemama some of us have to go to the post office to top our gas and electric up, since British gas ended their contract with paypoint.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 24/03/2020 09:26

Oh my god that sounds really crawly

worras post was great but i heard she was smelly

(Thats reduced the crawly bit slightly...hopefully)

coldlighthappier · 24/03/2020 09:28

I obviously mentioned I detest Boris so it couldn’t be said that I was blindly defending him because I liked him. Again, another obvious thing that hasn’t been understood.

Duchessofblandings · 24/03/2020 09:28

Kljnmw3459

There's lots of people on social media arguing that it's not a lockdown because he didn't say lockdown... so therefore it's still ok to meet up with others, visit places etc........“

He very specifically said, for the simpletons grappling with “stay home”, that if friends ask you to meet, “say no”.

How much clearer could that be?

What is wrong with these people?

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 24/03/2020 09:30

I don't know if people are just plain stupid, utterly selfish or very happy with what they consider a holiday and intending to make the most of it.

The message could not be clearer.
Arguing about "should" "necessity" "key worker" is just childish. Everyone knows what it means. They just chose to ignore it.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 24/03/2020 09:31

I didn't mean to embarrass Worra, hers was just the first post that wasn't full of scare-mongering, thigh-rubbing twat-speak. There have been others that followed suit and I'm applauding them too.

It comes to something when the country is (genuinely) in despair, that an element of nasty, inconsequential and unremarkable posters use that as some sort of 'drama' to get their kicks. The non-thinkers follow them and, there seem to be a lot.

If only their 'bleeding eyes' and general disdain would keep them from reading and posting, life would be better.

alloutoffucks · 24/03/2020 09:32

I am the furthest you can get from a Boris fan

But I will defend everything he says and does

Aye sure you are

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 24/03/2020 09:33

Ha, Rufus, I did the same...Blush. But, when BJ's term is up, I'm voting for Worra! Grin

alloutoffucks · 24/03/2020 09:35

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe Although I agree with you generally, I think there are a lot of very scared people. And what may look like wanting drama is often people who are just plain terrified expressing that in unhelpful ways.

TabbyMumz · 24/03/2020 09:35

"This morning’s classic. Mum lives opposite a golf course, looks out of her window at 8 and younger retired couple pull up in car. Barriers to club down and a notice on the barrier. Couple read notice, look at each other, leave abandoned car across the club gateway, get clubs out of boot and push their trollers under the barrier and go...play...fecking....golf!

Because by their interpretation they are same family and exercising. FOR FUCKS SAKE, send in the army."

But in theory, they can. The only rules they are breaking there, is trespassing.

MediocreOmens · 24/03/2020 09:36

@alloutoffucks have you ever read any of my other posts? I have never voted anything but red in my life. I can still accept common sense when I hear it regardless of the side it’s coming from. You don’t have to be a Tory to recognise what he said was sensible. This transcends politics for fucks sake.

countrygirl99 · 24/03/2020 09:37

Post offices are often the only place that people in rural areas or small towns can pay into their bank account or withdraw cash. The town my parents live in now has no bank branches at all.

Duchessofblandings · 24/03/2020 09:39

“You don’t have to be a Tory to recognise what he said was sensible. This transcends politics for fucks sake.“

This.

alloutoffucks · 24/03/2020 09:41

The issue is not about saying you can't do things. The issue is his incredibly poor communication style.
So for example, is it only key workers who can travel to work, or anyone who can't work from home? Half of MN does not know.

woodhill · 24/03/2020 09:44

I think people are stupid and selfish if it's not essential.I'm fortunate I don't have to leave the house but feel unwell tbh.

Will have to shop at some stage but that is it.

If people don't heed Boris it need Just prolongs the virus and makes things worse in long run
