For the past few years the rainbow has sadly becomea symbol of silencing, sexual stereotyping and oppression for a lot of women and those in the LGB community. If you're thinking of putting one up, please think about how that may make women feel - many of whom have already experienced death threats and lost their friends and jobs thanks to those who wield the rainbow flag as a weapon.

I just saw two on my walk just now and it made me feel like shit. Not the intended effect I'm sure. Please consider something else: the sun coming out from a cloud, or a simple landscape. Thanks.

Nasty bullies?

A grown adult getting upset by children's drawings of rainbows is a nasty bully in my book.

PlainBritishFlour · 23/03/2020 14:57

With all the hell thats been going on I forgot that morons like this existed.

Thanks for the reminder

@YakkityYakYakYak you win the funniest comment award!!! 😂 😂

Whoareyoudududu · 23/03/2020 14:57

Just placed my DC’s rainbows in the window quite proudly. Rainbows are a symbol of hope for many and this is exactly what it signifies.

y Heart Leaps Up
William Wordsworth - 1770-1850

My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man;
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.

TabbyMumz · 23/03/2020 14:58

Hang on, rainbows are encouraged to be worn on pride parades, lots of people wear lanyards with rainbows on to show support for LGBT.. I think the op has got it all massively wrong.

Ondalay · 23/03/2020 14:58

I really despair for the progeny of some of the transphobic on this website. It's terribly sad. Fancy not being allowed to draw a rainbow!

IAmFleshIAmBone · 23/03/2020 14:58

Eh no... The people telling OP to fuck off etc are the nasty bullies actually. I did not see the OP bullying anyone to be honest... Hmm

Barbie222 · 23/03/2020 14:59

Please no more biscuits everybody, it's very triggering for me none left for weeks

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 23/03/2020 14:59

Do people not realise that you can disagree without being nasty bullies?

Apart from only a little handful of bore off type posts (which I agree is out of order) there really isn't loads of nasty bullying.
Just if you have page after page of people disagreeing with you, it will seem like a bit of a pile on.
OP did ask AIBU, if you don't like being told yes, you are BU and here's why, better off not asking in the first place!

RuffleCrow · 23/03/2020 14:59

'T' isn't a sexuality @ondalay.

Saying i'm uncomfortable with women being sacked for their personal beliefs and children being given untested drugs is not a 'phobia' because a phobia is an irrational fear. It's perfectly rational to fear children being experimented on and women being intimidated.

@moonlightmistoe i'm too innocent to know what the omnipresent unicorns on kids clothes have been put there for, but as i said, it's all the same retailers who think women don't need female only spaces who insist on plastering those and rainbows on everything. And they definitely didn't to the same degree before Stonewall 'trained' them. I've been a mum long enough to have noticed a sudden change in emphasis a few years back.

"I'm sure your children like looking at things that don't make other people feel shit. Choose one of those instead."

Nah, why should I? You don't get to dictate what people can and can't put up in their windows. I can't find anything online to support what you're saying. Rainbow babies, Rainbow bridge, Gay Pride is all positive.

Ondalay · 23/03/2020 15:00

I've run out of hobnobs or I'd have offered the OP one. It's a suitably bland colour.

AngelicaKauffman · 23/03/2020 15:00

I think the flag and kids' drawings are a different thing and probably don't have the meaning behind them that you are seeing

"Probably" don't. Lol.

SneezyMcSneezeface · 23/03/2020 15:00

Has it??? I’m a lesbian and have missed that... I like rainbows, my kids like rainbows, we’ll be putting rainbows up...

IAmFleshIAmBone · 23/03/2020 15:02

Well actually Willis, there has been rather a lot of 'fuck off' etc, and also people suggesting that the OP has mental health issues, and not exactly in a concerned way. Just because this is AIBU doest give people carte blanche to be nasty does it? Or am I missing something?

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 23/03/2020 15:02

Saying i'm uncomfortable with women being sacked for their personal beliefs and children being given untested drugs is not a 'phobia' because a phobia is an irrational fear.

Surely it's time to look at whether it's a healthy reaction to have if you're seeing hidden agendas, fear and suspicion just by spotting kids drawing in windows though.
Massive over-reaction

Ondalay · 23/03/2020 15:03

You're ok cos you're a lesbian. You're not ok if you're trans though. Seriously - get with the MN Feminists! They want dark clouds instead.

Lordfrontpaw · 23/03/2020 15:04

I think we should resurrect the smiley face. It was the happy image of my childhood.

Please don't put a rainbow in your window!
CleanAndPaidFor · 23/03/2020 15:05

I think this thread demonstrates that people want to chose for themselves how they feel about rainbows OP. I suggest you build a rainbow bridge and get over it. 🌈🌈🌈 🌈

Ondalay · 23/03/2020 15:05

If you went into a psychiatrist and they produced a picture of a rainbow and asked you what that made you feel and you said that it made you feel sad because it's a symbol of the oppression of women - I think you might well be prioritised for a psychiatric bed. It's not really a stretch to wonder at this OP's sanity given the OP is it?

DotForShort · 23/03/2020 15:05

Advocating an odd conspiracy theory reveals a lack of critical thinking. I think it is perfectly appropriate to point that out. Pictures of rainbows in windows truly are not symbols of a vast conspiracy to silence and erase women. Rainbow flags aren't either, by the way.

ravenmum · 23/03/2020 15:06

It's perfectly rational to fear children being experimented on and women being intimidated.
And you believe, honestly, that the people whose rainbow drawings you saw today, in your street, support these two things?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 23/03/2020 15:07

Peace, everyone!

Please don't put a rainbow in your window!
TabbyMumz · 23/03/2020 15:07

"It's perfectly rational to fear children being experimented on and women being intimidated"
Please can you explain. When have children been experimented on and what has that got to do with rainbows? And what's wrong with stonewall?
Also...are you quite well?
