Will you change what companies you support based on how they are currently reacting?

I was wondering if how companies have reacted will encourage you to use or not use their services in the future.

Have you seen anything that would make you deliberately chose to support a business in the future?

Locally a cafe has reacted in a way i didnt expect and i now wonder if i will support them in the future? The same with some highly thought of zoos that have been stayed open and shot down anyone that questioned them.

The cafe me has posted varying rants about how annoyed they are that the vulnerable don't self isolate so they could carry on as normal, started selling home made sanitizer thats coronavirus proof but has no alcohol in it, and has set up picnic tables and is actively encouraged people to use picnic benches outside the cafe rather than taking away (including a self isolating table!)

Probably Ocado - the email saying my smart pass payment had been successful and I was “enjoying” unlimited deliveries was the final straw. Have they not noticed that even if customers can actually get on the website they have NO delivery slots. So suggesting I try a different time or book in advance doesn’t help get a delivery to my elderly relatives does it Ocado?

Applejaxx · 23/03/2020 22:29

Add Sports Direct to the list. The idiot who owns it has said they are staying open because they are an essential service.

HillAreas · 23/03/2020 22:30

@AwkwardSquad
You’re welcome! Far too much thoughtless virtue signalling going on for my liking. I hope your husbands job remains secure Flowers

Crankycranium0 · 23/03/2020 23:18

Try working for aldi and being in the at risk group. 12 weeks ssp is all we get. Some thanks for all these years of hard work. Will never spend a penny in the store from now on. Absolutely disappointing way to treat hard working yet vulnerable staff.

chuck7 · 24/03/2020 00:07

B&Q. I understand essential repairs so they should only be open for click and collect orders surely?

Retailers trying to worm their way around the rules pisses me off. Let's see what they come up with

Will you change what companies you support based on how they are currently reacting?
chuck7 · 24/03/2020 00:08

@Crankycranium0 I have family in an at risk group at EE. They're not allowed to leave at all and are still expected in work or no pay

Tr1skel1on · 24/03/2020 00:23

Yes me! I live on an island. I have been extremely rude about our local shop while going to our only small Tesco because they are slightly cheaper. The minute things got interesting Tesco were completely useless. Unless I have a plane or boat I can't go anywhere else. I went in to my local ShopRite store today and they had everything I needed. Strict limits on what you can buy, but that's fine, not even my teen can eat a whole packet of pasta at once! Lesson learned.

FunkyKingston · 24/03/2020 01:57

When this is all over I doubt people vwill remember which companies behaved badly or well on this situation. If enough people truly cared about how staff were treated, Sports Direct, Wetherspoons and the Arcadia group would have gone to the wall years ago. It wasn't like Philip Green, Tim Martin and Mike Ashley were model employers up to this point. Yet their businesses prospered.

Dita73 · 24/03/2020 02:08

I’ve been browsing for a new fridge freezer for months. Not urgent so taking my time in deciding. I’ve heard that with people panic buying that freezers are now in high demand. I went on Curry’s earlier and they have increased the prices on their fridge freezers, one by £1400! How can they live with themselves?! I won’t be using them again. Complete bastards

Marshmallow91 · 24/03/2020 03:13

The coop are providing free school meals in a lot of areas. I really like them.

Bewarethesealions · 24/03/2020 05:36

Dunelm can go take a flying shit. Still dithering about offering click and collect up until last night.... Noone needs to be out buying shite from there.

VivaLeBeaver · 24/03/2020 05:39

Add sports direct to the shit list. Mike Ashley has emailed staff and told them they’re staying open!

If1knewiwouldnotbehere · 24/03/2020 05:51

@StoneNoses re TGI, it's a darn shame their food is so bad.Blush

crazydiamond222 · 24/03/2020 06:16

@22:08firefly101. I think that is a bit unfair to ocado as they are completely snowed under. When things improve and they have a bit more time I would expect them though to refund smart pass payments for those that have not been able to get deliveries.

Dieu · 24/03/2020 07:41

Tesco have just renewed my delivery saver plan, even though I can't get a delivery. You can't charge for a service that is unavailable! It's impossible to get hold of anyone at their call centre, and my WhatsApp message has gone unread.

thegreenlight · 24/03/2020 07:47

BA - always fly with them but their shady, underhand tactics to get people with cancelled flights to take time limited vouchers instead of the refunds they are entitled makes me cross. We are meant to be flying at end of May and no word on whether we can cancel even though they admit they have grounded 75% of flights in May 😡

Sceptre86 · 24/03/2020 07:47

My brother I a doctor and said a very large cinema chain dropped off bags and bags of pick n mix at the hospital for staff to eat. He was overjoyed, simple pleasures and all thatGrin. I will pick up their annual pass for him as a belated birthday present when all of this is over.

Hugt · 24/03/2020 08:05

Ive just seen that poundland, the range, wilko and sports direct are all claiming they are essential stores thus are still open

OP posts:
Whoareyoudududu · 24/03/2020 08:19

I think many boycotted Sports Direct when they were found not to be paying staff min wage a couple of years back but now they’re insisting they remain open because they’re an ‘essential’ store Hmm. Mike Ashley is a prick.

flirtygirl · 24/03/2020 08:19

Poundland should stay open as sells a lot of food, toiletries and cleaning products. Also things for pets. As should b&m.

Lots of people buy their essentials from these shops.

The more places to buy toilet roll from, with current supply chains already established, then the less bottlenecks and shortages there will be.

Also places will not be so crowded. People have no way of knowing when they leave for an essential food trip or toilet roll trip that the store won't be busy as how will they know if 100 others in their area, all got up that morning to do the same.

Ie the parks being full when people thought they would be emptier.

DoubleAction · 24/03/2020 08:21

I am devastated to learn Evan's Cycles is now owned Ashley. You get such lovely service and expert knowledge in there...don't suppose that will last

flirtygirl · 24/03/2020 08:25

Some people will forget when this is all over but some will not. I will not.

I've been boycotting sports direct, Arcadia, nestle and M&S for years. It's quite easy to do (except M&S stunning winter coats each year, and I have a thing for coats, but even that I have not budged on.)

I Boycott other things too and I have a list to remind myself. I check against that list when I purchase something big but my small purchases and groceries are easy to remember, as it becomes a habit.

Wiltinglillies · 24/03/2020 10:15

What's bad about M&S? (genuine question)
I'm shocked at Britannia Hotels and Waterstones and would never use either again.
I suspect that over the next few weeks we'll use local shops. One shop has been limiting customers to one item on toilet paper and paracetamol for weeks, which was really thoughtful and others have been giving hand sanitiser to OAPs and NHS staff.
It will definitely change who I shop with.

bigyellowduck · 24/03/2020 10:31

IHG- free cancellation of all hotel bookings. Sofitel- no refund-call to rebook but couldn't get through. Hotels in the USA have been great- all have refunded non cancellable pre-paid bookings.

British Airways- cancelled everything really easily and refunds have come through. Gave us a voucher for the 1 we cancelled not them.

Axa insurance- awful - keeps ending us daily messages saying that out claim is not being processed as they are doing Covid 19 claims- which ours it.

Morrisons- fab- we were transitioning from ocado to morrisons as I hate M&S. Kept their website going and orders flowing.

e1y1 · 24/03/2020 10:52

Not that I use them anyway, but Virgin are definitely off the list.

Wilko I have to look in to further, I weren't sure if the sick pay change was specifically during this CV or as part of the ongoing contract under "normal" times, as in something already happening - still not good like, but.
