Will you change what companies you support based on how they are currently reacting?

I was wondering if how companies have reacted will encourage you to use or not use their services in the future.

Have you seen anything that would make you deliberately chose to support a business in the future?

Locally a cafe has reacted in a way i didnt expect and i now wonder if i will support them in the future? The same with some highly thought of zoos that have been stayed open and shot down anyone that questioned them.

The cafe me has posted varying rants about how annoyed they are that the vulnerable don't self isolate so they could carry on as normal, started selling home made sanitizer thats coronavirus proof but has no alcohol in it, and has set up picnic tables and is actively encouraged people to use picnic benches outside the cafe rather than taking away (including a self isolating table!)

I am annoyed with Easy jet- they have cancelled our outward flights to Portugal at Easter but not the return ones. I keep getting g reminders to check in??? How on earth am I supposed to use a flight home if I haven't got there in the first place?

Local shop selling tiny bottles of hand sanitiser for £6 and 4 roll pack of loo rolls for £20. Been named and shamed in the town- doubt his business will survive.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 23/03/2020 18:25

I definitely will. Two local companies that I know of have gone above and beyond. One has started delivering fruit and vegetables to those who are housebound and at the end of the day donates surplus stock to the staff at our hospital. The second is a restaurant who is supply meals to the housebound free of charge. I will make a point of supporting them as opposed to other shops who have racked up prices of essentials like toilet roll and other goods.

NoPointInWednesdays · 23/03/2020 18:26

B&Q, I will never ever EVER use that shop again for as long as I live they are treating their staff appallingly in their stores and their call centres!

Should be ashamed of themselves! Angry

luanmapo · 23/03/2020 18:41

My son works for McDonald’s and his Franchisee has been absolutely outstanding.
Before they announced closure, all staff at his franchises were told they would be on elevated sick pay if needing to isolate.
In additions they’ve all been told they will continue to be paid whilst closed.
Super impressed!

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 23/03/2020 18:46

I work for Asda and to be fair they’ve been brilliant.

12 weeks full pay for anyone who’s vulnerable and needs to isolate.

14 days full pay for those who have or who have been in contact with suspected cases.

Dedicated shopping hours for colleagues, NHS staff and over 70s.

Donated 5 million to the food bank.

Putting on a full buffet every day for colleagues using local catering to help support them.

A thank you payment of an extra weeks wages.

They haven’t always been so great but they’ve risen to the challenge this time.

cakemeupbeforeyougogo · 23/03/2020 18:49

Lastminute.com. Utterly appalling. No response via telephone or online chat function. No reply to emails.

Their reputation has gone down the drain if the posts on their facebook wall are anything to go by.

Hugt · 23/03/2020 18:50

Its really lovely to see some positive mentions. Some more zoos appear to have closed which is a step foward.

Yep. There’s a few I won’t touch now

DarcyParty · 23/03/2020 18:55

In defence of PAH, they're treating us well. Among other things, they have a hardship fund for staff and they've lifted limitations so that even new staff can have access to it, and increased the ammount they can recieve. There's other things too. If we have to be open, I'm glad of the support, and of keeping my job

Now I just wish the public would stop bringing their whole families to panic buy hamsters and fish for the lockdown...

HermioneWeasley · 23/03/2020 18:57

Morrisons have put up screen at check outs to protect their staff, set up the essentials boxes mentioned in another thread, so that elderly and vulnerable people can properly self isolate, and are doing an NHS hour 6 times a week. I think their response has really stood out

Samcro · 23/03/2020 19:06

Rather impressed with waitrose, the local one to dd,s care home donated 100 pounds of flowers to brighton the place up.
Ok I know it was leftover mothers day stuff. But still really nice.

isadoradancing123 · 23/03/2020 19:25

Seeing as supermarket shelves are empty then places like Wilko, Home Bargains and B and M bargains play a vital role and should be open

Sooverthemill · 23/03/2020 19:25

Yes. Definitely

Babysharkdoodoodood · 23/03/2020 19:36

@Anyonebut Zara sacked all their retail staff

Anyonebut · 23/03/2020 19:39

@Babysharkdoodoodood, thanks, that explains it. I'm not up to date with UK news, right now.

Likethebattle · 23/03/2020 19:44

BT have not sent home their call centre staff, this includes an immunosuppressef relative Angry. I’ll also add that I will never stay in a Britannia Group hotel (although apparently they are shit holes anyway). G1 group
in Scotland has laid off all staff with under 2 years service, they have also advised they will be required to apply for their own jobs back once they re-open,

MasakaBuzz · 23/03/2020 19:54

EBay - for allowing listings involving obscene profiteering of hand sanitizers and baby milk.

GeraltOfRivia · 23/03/2020 19:55

I'll not be using to local shops again after they actively encouraged panic buying to sell product.

Other local businesses have tried to keep people
Stocked up while balancing risk. They have given vulnerable People things for free. These businesses will get money from me as soon as I have any again!

AngelicInnocent · 23/03/2020 20:02

Costa have closed except for the ones in hospitals which are giving free drinks to NHS staff.

flyingspaghettimonster · 23/03/2020 20:02

Absolutely. I will shop more at places which are still paying staff to stay home and those that are donating to help. I will avoid places I feel are taking advantage of the current situation.

Sexnotgender · 23/03/2020 20:10

Just had an email saying next are closing. Better late than never.

@HillAreas

Thank you! My DP works for one of the companies mentioned and he’d like to still have a job after all of this if at all possible! People power did what it needed to do, they closed the shops, no need to boycott them now.

AwkwardSquad · 23/03/2020 20:26

Just to add the chain he works for is continuing to pay staff

MrsJBaptiste · 23/03/2020 21:24

Nope.
