Is anyone else struggling to see the point when we aren’t going anywhere? Tried going for a walk but I still just put comfies on. Am I grim?

Gross!

Cunninglittlevixen · 22/03/2020 21:13

1morewineplease - never heard that lack of showering is 'the best way' to get ill, I'd have thought low immune system, lack of handwashing, exposure to viruses etc etc would all come first.

MerryDeath · 22/03/2020 21:15

that is grim. don't you feel like shit? a nice hot shower perks me up no end. are you depressed?

anascrecca · 22/03/2020 21:15

I think a daily shower is overkill, I have one every two or 3 days as I work part time and my hair gets too greasy on day 3. My children have one bath per week. We wash our bodies too much as a society in my opinion. Bad for our skin and bad for the environment.
Op just wash as you see fit and enjoy it as a luxury when you do. When I have had depression shower was the only time I felt normal.

AvonBarksdale99 · 22/03/2020 21:17

You absolutely do not need to shower every day. It’s actually bad for your skin/hair. Every other day is fine

mindproject · 22/03/2020 21:18

Have a shower, get some fresh air and stop paying attention to the propaganda machine. You'll feel 100% better for it.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 22/03/2020 21:19

It's a bit grim op.

I could go days on end without leaving my house if I chose to (wfh and have a partner who could go out for stuff) but I find a daily hot shower pretty essential. It sorts out my minor aches and pains and I feel presentable and part of society. I don't do hair or makeup or dressing up, usually wear jeans and a top and a swipe of moisturister, perfume every day,, but being clean feels like being civilised and still functioning to me.

So have a bath or shower tonight. Honestly, you'll feel so much better for it.

RhagePip · 22/03/2020 21:20

We as a family haven't showered in 5 days and I fucking hate it. We are having a wet room fitted as we were awarded a disabled facilities grant so it will be worth it but it's hard. Strip washing is not the same. Roll on tomorrow night!

gingersausage · 22/03/2020 21:20

@EveryDayIsADuvetDay could you be any more patronising? I’m pretty sure as a functioning adult the OP is fully aware of all the steps involved in getting fucking clean, even if she doesn’t feel like it at the moment. Wind your neck in!

What’s with purposely wearing pyjamas all day suddenly being MN-acceptable ? A few weeks ago it was the height of scummy behaviour, now everybody is suddenly doing it.

mummyof2darlings · 22/03/2020 21:20

If possible try and order yourself a fitness or yoga dvd I find that helps me feel more positive on the days having to stay inside do them then shower hopefully will make the day feel fresher :) Im currently divina fit in 5 weeks which has a timetable so that helps as it's counting the days down :)

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 22/03/2020 21:30

OP, like many other PPs have said, not washing is a sign of mental health deteriorating - which is totally understandable at the moment. I always notice how lax I get about even as much as getting dressed when I'm in a bad way.

The thing is, and I know how pathetic this sounds, on the days when I DO shower I feel so much better afterwards and think 'That really wasn't much of an effort to change how I feel.' And then even if I do fuck all for the rest of the day, I can still cling to that one little thing that I did do. So ok, I didn't do the washing up today. But I did shower. I didn't put the laundry away. But I did shower. Although tbh, having a shower makes me more motivated to get on with other stuff. It's five minutes, no more than that. But it makes a huge difference to your day.

MrsMigginsPie · 22/03/2020 21:33

Be kind to yourself and treat yourself with love and care. Different people have different levels of what they feel is OK for them washing wise - and that’s ok. If this is out of the ordinary for you, and sounds like it is because you’re saying ‘what’s the point’ then If it’s ok is down to why you’re feeling what’s the point.

Is it like ‘I’m not shaving my legs coz no other bugger is going to see it’ then thats ok. Although probably you’d be better having a quick wash to make sure its not antisocial! But to be fair that decision is totally up to you!

If it’s I don’t see the point because everything’s so fucked up, then sounds more like despondency and hopelessness. I can’t say what will work for you, but what helps me is thinking of the many, many instances of loveliness being shown by people, thinking that the fatality rate while is still on our side even if old, even if high risk. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by sadness and despair, but you have to look for the chinks of light and actively step away from the awfulness if only for a time. Wishing you well.

IrisAtwood · 22/03/2020 21:34

I struggled to get myself into the shower this morning because I couldn’t see the point. I’m also not wearing make-up or styling my hair.

I am depressed.

I did get into the shower though because I reminded myself that I am worth making the effort for. I also styled my hair. It’s a start.

rjebgf · 22/03/2020 21:34

People shower too much.

As long as you are not depressed, it's fine not to shower for a week.

MrsMigginsPie · 22/03/2020 21:35

*while high is still on our side

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/03/2020 21:37

Grim. Have some self respect you'll feel better for it.

Kerberos · 22/03/2020 21:37

^ no it's not!

BunnytheBee · 22/03/2020 21:41

As long as you are not depressed, it's fine not to shower for a week.

No it’s really not ok.

It’s dirty, lazy and antisocial unless there is a very good reason not to shower.

Every other day maybe but only if you are washing after the loo with a bidet or similar which most of us dont

Mumpower123 · 22/03/2020 21:43

I'm depressed as hell. I've got harm ocd and obessing about death. My head is bent inside out.

CorianderLord · 22/03/2020 21:43

I have eczema, I often don't shower for a week. It hurts my skin, so I usually sink wash and go

BuyingaHome · 22/03/2020 21:45

Wtf

Why? Shower. Every. Day. Just don't bother with make up or jeans.

Nice gym stuff, clean hair and freshly showered!!!

CorianderLord · 22/03/2020 21:46

Everyone saying it's revolting clearly has never tried it - I don't smell at all, work and my friends and boyfriend cannot smell me.

It's also quite rude because some of us can't help it. If I showered every day my skin would bleed...

Don't you feel sticky and disgusting?

VegetableMunge · 22/03/2020 21:48

I think you would feel better if you had a shower OP. Really worth doing what you can to help with hygiene and feel as good as possible right now.
