Why are MN still moving CV threads?

NellyGrace · 22/03/2020 09:16

This is something that affects us all now. Not just an annoyance.

Supposedly we are in this altogether.

Why is Mumsnet still moving Coronavirus threads to health?

We all need to be aware. It is irresponsible of MN to be hiding these conversations away.

if you have an ad blocker then you can use it to block trending topics - mine is just an empty box now.

FrippEnos · 22/03/2020 17:13

Because people's mental health is more important than your inability to use the mouse to click two more times.

MinnieMountain · 22/03/2020 18:52

@FrippEnos thumbs up for that comment.

pitlochrypat · 22/03/2020 19:04

to @FrippEnos

SeptemberWeddingIHope · 22/03/2020 19:07

Hallelujah for some sense @FrippEnos

The country has been full of people disregarding all safety measures for the sake of their 'mental health"

And the location of cv threads on MN is going to change that... how?

pitlochrypat · 22/03/2020 21:38

No one cares about your mental health

You don't care, plenty of other people do. Thankfully not everybody is an uncaring dick like you Biscuit

APatchyTomCat · 22/03/2020 21:43

Why are people so desperate to post OUTSIDE the cv topic?

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 22/03/2020 21:45

The problem with them all being out in Health is that many posters and readers don’t realise they are there and do miss the discussions.

Seriously, how can you miss three million threads?

SeptemberWeddingIHope · 22/03/2020 21:49

This subject is certainly bringing out the worst in people

I've hidden the CV topic but it's still over spilling onto every other board and dominating MN.

If you've not muted CV then they'll still come up in your active threads etc. As they are now.

So much repetition and handwringing rather than any useful or concrete information.

MyOtherProfile · 22/03/2020 22:07

I'm another one who wants to pick and choose when I see CV threads. Please keep moving them, MN.

pitlochrypat · 22/03/2020 22:13
  • pitlochrypat realistically no one gasping for breath and dying alone in a hospital too full to help them has got the luxury to prattle about their mental health.

The selfish dick is someone like you.*

You mean like my father who died this month in exactly those circumstances ? He'd have been the first to say that mental health matters having been involved with the profession all his working life.

Now you can fuck right off and be a selfish dick somewhere else.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 22/03/2020 22:13

I am so bored of that "mental health" argument. The country has been full of people disregarding all safety measures for the sake of their 'mental health", but it was sunny today, so let's all go on a jolly

A lot of us AREN'T disregarding all safety measures though, but still think it's important to have a sense of rationality and want to be able to step back from seeing it every fucking where on here.
Mental health is important, no that doesn't mean go out and do what you like (FFS stay inside if you can) but you shouldn't let it consume you and it is mentally healthy to take a break and want a bit of light relief from stuff, like MN used to provide!

AlternativePerspective · 22/03/2020 22:26

The almost gleeful way in which people are posting on here along the lines of “you just wait and see, in two weeks you’ll find out what it’s like,” is hideous. It’s almost as if those GF’s are wishing bad on people, and the world at large.

As for the mental health argument, I genuinely think that the mental health of that poster above (I am not going to quote them since I’ve reported the posts and with any luck they, and the poster will soon be removed) needs to be called into question here. Perhaps they ought to seek some therapy to help them through this.... Because that is almost a sense of anxiety right there.

KaptenKrusty · 22/03/2020 22:27

Ugh I like when the threads are gone somewhere I can’t see them - so sick of them 😷 il actively look at the news or search twitter if i want to know any updates or info!!

The threads on here are mostly ridiculous tbh

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 22/03/2020 22:34

Gleeful? You are confusing glee with being absolutely pissed off that we will HAVE to be put on lockdown. It was obvious people would force the issue , despite reports/photos/data from all the countries before us, but it is still infuriating. It could have been avoided.

Fucked off with all the selfish idiots on threads like that who are bored with CV. Too bad. Some of us have already lost people, and won't see their partners for weeks or months because they have a job to do. You thought you were special and you wanted to ignore the problem? You are the ones putting us all in the shit. Shame on you.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 22/03/2020 22:37

As we are not allowed to comment on people being so selfish and utterly self centred,

AlternativePerspective · 22/03/2020 22:40

Plenty of people are not seeing loved ones for the foreseeable without having to resort to personal and offensive insults over it.

You know nothing about the personal circumstances of other people, but the way in which you write leads me to think that actually you fall into the category of needing help because of your mental health. Either that, or you’re just naturally unpleasant. Take your pick.

Everyone else is going through this as well, but you know what? Life has to go on. Because once we get through this (and we will get through it) we all have to go on living and living the life that we are meant to.

I fall into the “extremely vulnerable” category and if I catch the virus I will almost certainly die. But the world exists around more people than just me, and we all have to protect ourselves in various ways, and that includes mental health.

Justanotherlurker · 22/03/2020 22:40

We all need to be aware. It is irresponsible of MN to be hiding these conversations away.

Everyone is aware and as at least 2 threads from the conovirus sub are in active I'm not sure why you are trying to insinuate some kind of conspiracy. .

As with other topics that required there own sub topic, it came about because of 3 things.

  1. People trying to play partisan politics
  2. People openly whipping themselves up into ever more hyper sensitivity
  3. People not only asking the same questions that has been asked but under the faux innocence of being highly educated but repeating a tired facebook/twitter post under the guise of 'starting a conversation'
JustInCaseCakeHappens · 22/03/2020 22:44

AlternativePerspective

but when you say life goes on, YOU might be self-isolating as much as possible, but others translate it as: life goes on as normal. People selfishly put their "mental health" before anything else. Don't you see that?

It's not me who insulted posters, you are confusing me with someone else.

"mental health" is only being used a pretext to be selfish and completely irresponsible.

Shame on people who are causing so much damage.

APatchyTomCat · 22/03/2020 22:45

@JustInCaseCakeHappens

As you seem to be active at the moment and seem to be in agreement with the OP- can I ask again, why do you want to post OUTSIDE of the designated CV topic?

AlternativePerspective · 22/03/2020 22:55

But there is a vast difference between people not doing as they are being advised and not wanting to be bombarded with corona hysteria threads. Is it really that hard to see?

Or do you think that putting the corona threads in most active is suddenly going to make people stop and think, “oh, maybe I shouldn’t be going out after all,” in ways that the news, and the papers, and social media have been unable to?

you look at the news and there is back to back coronavirus articles. Look at the papers and it’s the same. Coronavirus is a big part of what’s going on right now but there is more out there.

And most of the threads on the CV topic are hysterical beyond words. I actually went as far as to suggest that the whole topic be removed because it is not dissimilar to those depression forums where people go to egg their fellow sufferers on to do more and more extreme things such as suicide and self harm.

I don’t suffer from anxiety. But I do want the corona threads moved out of the other boards and into the topic designed for them, because frankly they’re irritating and repetitive and most of what’s being said now was being said four weeks ago.
