Why are MN still moving CV threads?

NellyGrace · 22/03/2020 09:16

This is something that affects us all now. Not just an annoyance.

Supposedly we are in this altogether.

Why is Mumsnet still moving Coronavirus threads to health?

We all need to be aware. It is irresponsible of MN to be hiding these conversations away.

CV IS a health issue and should be there. Rarely should it be on AIBU. Unless the poster IS CV itself in which case, you are being unreasonable CV - please fuck off.

Washyourhandsyoufilthyanimal · 22/03/2020 10:26

Maybe as people have health anxiety so it’s a trigger topic?

APatchyTomCat · 22/03/2020 10:37

I can understand the cross over onto Chat threads such as ones about online shopping etc but the

‘Shit we’re all fucked aren’t we’

ones need to stay in, or be moved to the CV topic.
Moving them quickly hurts no one, those for whom it increases anxiety don’t have to see it whilst using the site for other purposes, and those who want to discuss how fucked we are can do so with other like minded individuals to their hearts content.

Sparklingbrook · 22/03/2020 10:41

Yes all the ones saying people aren't scared enough really aren't helping.

BentNeckLady · 22/03/2020 10:42

A. Because it’s their website and they can do what they want with it. And
B. They aren’t answerable to you.

NellyGrace · 22/03/2020 10:48

The problem with them all being out in Health is that many posters and readers don’t realise they are there and do miss the discussions.

Also we are ALL affected by this and responsible for how this pans out. MN tucking the conversations away implies the CV problem is only for a few of us.

OP posts:
NellyGrace · 22/03/2020 10:49

Coronavirus is no longer just a health issue. It is highly political and is affecting all areas of life.

pitlochrypat · 22/03/2020 10:50

YABU. There is a section for CV threads and that is where they should be, MNHQ are not being irresponsible.

All the 'we're all in this together' stuff is bollocks - if we were then people wouldn't be on the CV threads being so fucking horrible to each other.

MN, like society, is largely full of people who just want to stick the boot in and be downright unpleasant. In fact, more so than in society.

Lockheart · 22/03/2020 10:52

If you were a new poster, or even a not so new poster wanting to know about this, where would you logically look for posts about the coronavirus?

Under health, or under AIBU?

It's a puzzler all right, don't know how all these posters would ever figure it out.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 22/03/2020 10:53

Each topic should have a notice at the top with a link to the coronavirus topic. It doesn't need to be in in AIBU? I am not hiding away from it, I am probably in that topic more than I am any other one but sometimes people just want a cf thread and not have every bloody thing be about cv.

It is impossible to ignore them in aibu as most of them pretend not to be about that in the title in the hopes of not being moved.

Sparklingbrook · 22/03/2020 10:55

If you were a new poster, or even a not so new poster wanting to know about this

Go and get some info and proper facts from a reputable source, not threads on MN.

Lockheart · 22/03/2020 11:15

I totally agree @Sparklingbrook but an alarming amount of posters appear to treat MN as the news, Google, and a talk board all rolled into one.

chomalungma · 22/03/2020 11:19

CV IS a health issue and should be there

It is far far far more than a health issue.

Sparklingbrook · 22/03/2020 11:23

Very true Lockheart. Everything posted on MN is fact. Grin

PutColinInTheCorner · 22/03/2020 11:28

Some people are just cunts basically. We should be scared, and we are in it for the long run

But that doesn't mean we need every thread on an internet chat forum to be about it. Surely most of us get our information from PHE, NHSE and other factual sources? There's a specific place to talk about CV on here should people wish to, I really can't see what's wrong with that.

TeenPlusTwenties · 22/03/2020 11:31

I'm taking this seriously.
But I come to MN for relaxation not to be stressed out further.

I have hidden the CV board, but things still appear in Trending. I don't want to keep coming across it in AIBU and Chat.

MN could separate the board out though (if people could manage that, but given they can't even stick to the one board then it probably wouldn't work.) e.g.
CV-health
CV-day to day life
CV-work&finances
CV-news and wider world

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 22/03/2020 11:44

Keep them on the cv board please & thank you

tiredanddangerous · 22/03/2020 11:45

Because a lot of posters are posting completely made up bullshit on them and it’s irresponsible and twattish.

SeptemberWeddingIHope · 22/03/2020 11:54

Scaremongerers and self proclaimed experts plus bullshit mongerers should stay in the topic.
Posting shite when people have health anxiety is also not a good idea as it may cause unnecessary fear

BertieBotts · 22/03/2020 11:55

They are right there in active unless you choose to hide the topic.

SilverySurfer · 22/03/2020 12:00

It makes sense to have a dedicated board - it keeps all useful info together and also keeps all the stupid in one place asking questions like 'we have a holiday booked for next week in Italy - should we still go?' and others of that ilk.

Bufferingkisses · 22/03/2020 12:08

Because it is really important that people get a balance. Being informed, seeing the discussion etc is one thing that matters. Being able to continue to function during a time that is very difficult is also something that matters.

You know where the threads are, as does everyone else, when you wish to be updated or have a look at some facts or get your scared out you know where to go.

ThunderPython · 22/03/2020 12:13

Then don't read them then.

All but 3 threads in active Convos were Corona related

I can't cope with that, I need some relief.

I can hide the topic, frees up active Convos for me - when people post to correct topics.

There is keeping up to date, taking an interest and then there's absolute hysteria and misinformation being spread in some of the countless threads.

Just post to the correct topic, one click. That's all.

I would have to open and hide every other thread if it wasn't for the CV topic.

Thanks MNHQ for your work with this, it is appreciated.

Nanny0gg · 22/03/2020 12:26

If AIBU was full of CV threads every other one would be pushed off the front page.

People know there is a CV Topic. If they're interested they can go there.

Simples.

Ohtherewearethen · 22/03/2020 12:33

The problem with them all being out in Health is that many posters and readers don’t realise they are there and do miss the discussions.

So? What do the billions of people who are not on mumsnet do? For God's sake, this hysteria over CV is not actually helping anyone. Unless you live under a rock you are well aware that we should be taking this seriously and reading yet another tedious thread about it isn't actively helping everyone. I suggest if you don't like it then find a dedicated CV website where you can add to the drama to your heart's content. Otherwise, the rest of us wish to continue reading AIBU about the thousands of other things which are still going on.
If people want to read about CV on mumsnet it makes sense that they will search it out and find it quite easily on the CV board. If they want to read about who is being a CF or who is parking badly or whose mother in law is a complete pain then they should be able to do so without having CV shoved in their faces more than necessary.
Why do you think that we should only be thinking or talking about CV? That is hideously unhealthy.
