I'm probably being unreasonable in these scary times , but I need some light relief. Have you ever been on a TV game show? Was it how you expected? Were you on Tipping point? Did you want to give him a slap when he kept repeating the questions you interrupted? Tell us the things that surprised you!

I watched Brainteaser (old Channel 5 quiz show) being filmed when a friend went on it. The studio was much smaller and darker than it looked on TV. Apart from that dizzying height of fame, I don’t have anything further to share, I’m afraid :)

I don’t know if you participate or know about it OP but reading the tweets of #tippingpoint in real time on Twitter makes the show 1000x more entertaining

NotNegan · 21/03/2020 06:43

My friend won £9,500 on Deal or No Deal.

81Byerley · 21/03/2020 06:59

@BritishHorrorStory I 've often wondered about studio sizes, and with modern lights, if the studios are all just plain and lighting makes them all different.
@NotNegan Did the programme last much longer than was shown on TV?

@81Byerley

I'll ask. I know that after their number came up, the makeup artist (who I think is Noel's wife) came out to more makeup on them.

A pal of ours went on Tipping Point and did this:

He then crashed out in the first round. Bad luck Kev! He did say it was a fun day filming though.

That’s reminded me of something that I read, it’s not a quiz show, but contestants on come dine with me sometimes don’t serve their food until after midnight and the show only pays for one taxi so the contestants have to wait for each other to film their parts and reveal their scores until they are allowed to get in and film theirs. Apparently it sometimes lasts until 3am!

At least Olly doesn’t need to think too hard now about a name if he decides to become a drag queen 😂

tinyhappyaliens · 21/03/2020 07:36

I was in the audience for All Star Mr and Mrs. That was loads of fun! Lasted about 3.5 hours to record because if Schofield did something wrong he had to start again. The celebrities were really funny. Been in the audience for loose women a couple of times too!

Honeyned · 21/03/2020 07:54

@BritishHorrorStory really?!! That's bizarre! I wonder if anyone on here's been on Come dine with me

YessicaHaircut · 21/03/2020 07:56

@BritishHorrorStory lol!!

SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace · 21/03/2020 07:59

I was on an Irish family game show hosted by Dara O Briain when I was about 11. That was loads of fun and he was lovely.

WaitingInTheBushesOfLove · 21/03/2020 08:03

@Honeyned
There was a thread here about that show over a year ago. You might find it of interest

I was in the audience for the very first Game for A Laugh. We had no idea what it was about before we went, so it was a bit confusing.
They had a warm up man and we were told when to laugh and clap (by means of different hand signals from warm up man)
I was mortified when the camera panned round the audience and asked for someone to go up on stage. I hung my head and luckily the person in front of me shot their hand up and was chosen.
I never went to another TV show, despite getting tickets. 😂

EmeraldShamrock · 21/03/2020 09:34

No I imagine being on the chase like a rabbit caught in the headlight. I love answering from the sofa.
Was anyone on Jeremy Kyle or an interview style TV set.

Merryoldgoat · 21/03/2020 09:35

Yes - I have filmed an episode of one and am waiting for it to air.

It was extremely fun.

bathorshower · 21/03/2020 09:41

A friend was on only connect. She said it took about 90 minutes to film an episode (they're 30 minutes on TV), and the whole series was filmed back to back, so all the teams were together for a few days, and were called for filming as needed. Victoria Coren Mitchell and the production crew were working incredibly hard, with long days, but it was fun as a contestant. There's no audience, which must make filming easier.

81Byerley · 21/03/2020 09:44

@Honeyned Thanks, now I know why I'd never go on there!

I know someone who had to deal with JK researchers. Very unpleasant. After being refused entry to a children’s home to visit one of the 16 year old residents who rang the number for their show, they resorted to throwing stones at their bedroom window to get their attention and try and coax them to sneak out of the window and tell them more information about their story. The police were called.

wannabebetter · 21/03/2020 10:01

My brother was in The Chase and put loads of ££ into the prize pot (went high & got home) but they list it in the final chase. He said Brad was lovely

wannabebetter · 21/03/2020 10:02

Lost obv not list!!

jackparlabane · 21/03/2020 11:10

I was on the pilot episode for a show with a couple friends. Sadly they'd changed the spec after our phone-qualifying round to be less Only Connect and much more pop culture. We were hugely lucky not to be the first to go 'home', but seeing BBC Television Centre and an actual stage was cool. Nicky Campbell was lovely.

I've been in the audience for QI and a couple radio shows which is lots of fun, though they often overbook to ensure enough people turn up - if you queue and don't get in you get priority for a future one.

eddiemairswife · 21/03/2020 11:20

Ask The Family years ago with Robert Robinson. We were that year's champions.

iklboo · 21/03/2020 11:35

I've been on Pointless and The Chase. Let's just say I didn't make any large purchases afterwards.

81Byerley · 21/03/2020 11:35

@Merryoldgoat what were you on? Do they film several back to back? Did you like the other contestants? Will you keep in touch?
