I'm probably being unreasonable in these scary times , but I need some light relief. Have you ever been on a TV game show? Was it how you expected? Were you on Tipping point? Did you want to give him a slap when he kept repeating the questions you interrupted? Tell us the things that surprised you!

Not a TV quiz - but I've been on Radio 2's PopMaster and Steve Wright's Big Quiz - both times were just before the texting scandal. I won PopMaster (got 33 out of 39) and won 4 or 5 days of the Big Quiz - not quite brave enough to on the telly though!

I haven’t, but my mum was on Countdown. She was up against a man who went in to become an Octochamp, so she clearly didn’t win, but of all the people who played him, she came closest to beating him, and would have won, if she had got the conundrum a fraction faster.

GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery · 23/03/2020 19:58

@81Byerley It took a couple of hours to record. Ben Shepherd was really nice, there's no audience, the other contestants were lovely.

The counters are about the size of a small bread plate. They sometimes jumped out of the bottom part if they fall too hard, and onto the floor!

I came second, I walked away with tickets for Proms in the Park. The guy that won actually got the £10k jackpot and took me and one other contestant out for a drink in Euston before we caught out trains.

The fourth contestant left after she lost in first round, whereas we sat at the side and watched the game play out. I'm still in contact with the guys and one of them has been on Pointless and The Chase since. 😁

I got through to second round auditions of Mastermind last year. Wasn't too gutted to not get on, as I usually only go on game shows to win money! 😆

Oh, and years ago, my (now-ex) DP and I auditioned for a pilot episode of a game show where you could win a £1m. (It later turned out to be Million Pound Drop). My ex and I are both really good at general knowledge and sort of plugged each other's knowledge gaps, I'm crap with sport and history for example. We'd even won pub quizzes as just a twosome team, so went for this audition.

When we arrived I said to my ex to throw a couple of questions, as they don't want people who get everything right. He said he would, but got a lot right still. 🙄

Then these two lads got up to do their piece to camera and we're farting about, really OTT loud, look at me types, like couple of Joey Essex's bred with a Duracell Bunny! They got barely any question right too. I said to my ex, I bet they get on and we don't. I was right on both counts, they did get on and they went out on the second question!! 🤣

I know it's not a game show but I took some stuff along to the Antiques Roadshow and they put me on the telly!! Bucket list moment for me!

TreeTopTim · 24/03/2020 07:47

Fantastic hearing about all of these experiences. In times like this it's good to have a distraction.

@81Byerley it's annoying isn't it when Ben repeats the questions and answers when he tells them the answer as soon as they pass or get it wrong.

81Byerley · 24/03/2020 08:44

@TreeTopTim Yes! my husband and I both shout at him.... but he just ignores us!Grin

I was on the Weakest Link! Anne Robinson was a scary cow even when the cameras weren’t rolling and when I saw the recording, I couldn’t believe how fat I was.

“The camera adds 10 pounds.”

“Christ, how many cameras were on me?!”

Piglet89 · 24/03/2020 08:53

I was also the second weakest link - so far and stupid.

GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery · 24/03/2020 10:29

@Piglet89 when I was on Weakest Link, Anne left the set at the end of each round and didn't talk to us.

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 24/03/2020 10:33

I have a Going For Gold Daily Winners Goblet....!!!!!!!!!

I was also on Celebrity Squares with Bob Monkhouse where I met a very very young Bradley Walsh

And about 15 years ago I was one one of the National Lottery quizzes = National Lottery Come And Have A Go with Julian Clary

DoTheNextRightThing · 24/03/2020 10:36

I was at the recording of an episode of the CBBC show Copycats as part of my TV Production degree (was there to see how a studio television show is made). At that particular recording, they had a charades round and somehow the dad mimed one finger over his mouth as a moustache and an arm straight out in front of him in what looked scarily like the Hitler salute. I got to learn that day how you cut in the middle of a game that should be done in one take.

tinnitusqueen · 24/03/2020 13:10

I was on blockbusters for four gold runs and more recently the 100k drop. Almost on university challenge but I was the sub because another boy cried when he didn't make our team.

TreeTopTim · 24/03/2020 16:34

@81Byerley he must be deaf because he doesn't listen to me either when I shout at the tv Grin

Itsmybirthday19 · 24/03/2020 16:50

Well...

to change the subject? Have you been on a game show?
looselegs · 24/03/2020 20:10

@GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery they are full days of recording-the guests don't just turn up for their dinner in the evening, then go home after. They actually cook it a lot earlier, and with stopping recording and doing retakes it takes a long time. If you ever see a Christmas episode, it's still daylight when the guests turn up so its earlier in the day

Warpdrive · 24/03/2020 20:45

I know someone who was on The Chase, Brad couldnt have been more bored apparently, there is no studio audience, walked away from contestants between takes, the Chasers get fed information (not answers) so they can elaborate on answers and appear more intelligent.

IPityThePontipines · 24/03/2020 23:22

A relative was on Bargain Hunt with her husband.

He said it was "The greatest day of my life after the birth of my children". They didn't win, but everyone involved was lovely.

wannabebetter · 26/03/2020 18:43

I posted earlier that my DB was on the chase - well - update!! I got a call yesterday from The Chase (I'd applied online ages ago) with interview & 10 questions - I've made it to next round!! So, if we ever get allowed to go out again, apparently I'll be invited to audition stage...!

wannabebetter · 26/03/2020 19:00

Vvvvv outing - but here's me on TOTP!!!! (I'm not Gary Davis)!!

to change the subject? Have you been on a game show?
TDogsInHats · 27/03/2020 16:27

@wannabebetter is your name that which appears at the top of the photo? Very very very outing if so!

Coldilox · 27/03/2020 16:51

I was on Fanorama in 2002. Early days of E4. Lauren Laverne was the host and David Mitchell was my team captain. I won!
