I'm probably being unreasonable in these scary times , but I need some light relief. Have you ever been on a TV game show? Was it how you expected? Were you on Tipping point? Did you want to give him a slap when he kept repeating the questions you interrupted? Tell us the things that surprised you!

We need more threads like this to distract our minds. Unfortunately I haven't been on any.

bathorshower · 21/03/2020 13:16

iklboo did you get the jackpot as well?

Merryoldgoat · 21/03/2020 13:27

@81Byerley

I was on The Chase.

They film 3 a day and you meet your ‘team’ from the moment they collect you.

My team were really nice but we didn’t stay in touch.

They take you through rules, play some warm up stuff, leave you to chat and feed you etc.

It’s a really nice day and it feels very oddly surreal the whole time.

I got a bit too excited with my buzzer and couldn’t stop pressing it during breaks.

@iklboo

You are my IDOL

iklboo · 21/03/2020 13:29

@bathorshower - sadly not. It went down to TWO!

I've been on University Challenge. Jeremy Paxman is very tall!

TheMemoryLingers · 21/03/2020 13:32

A Pointless trophy! Now we need to find a Mumsnetter who's got a Blankety Blank Cheque Book and pen!

No quiz shows for me. I'm definitely a 'shout the answers at the telly' person. I know someone who was on Family Fortunes in the 80s and their family apparently had an argument with Bob Monkhouse.

NoHunGosh · 21/03/2020 13:34

Blockbusters. Still have the dictionary.

MadameJosephine · 21/03/2020 15:06

I was on a game show called ‘Britain’s Best Brain’ on Channel 5 about 10 years ago, it was great fun, it was hosted by Zoe Ball who was absolutely lovely and really friendly and Jamie Theakston who was a bit of a knob

ClashCityRocker · 21/03/2020 15:20

My friend was on come dine with me, last year.

Yes to very late nights!

She said it also cost her quite a bit of money - they wanted her to buy various props and the money they give you for food and drink isn't enough to cover it.

Also they were really strict about the amount that they drank which she didn't expect having watched previous episodes.

And all the food is pretty lukewarm...

TheVanguardSix · 21/03/2020 15:26

Oh secretly I'd love to do The Chase! I love that show. But I know I'd just embarrass myself.
I've contributed a medical antique for an episode of QI, so although I was in the audience, I got to meet Sandi Toksvig and the show's panel. It was such fun! I really split my sides laughing. Ross Noble was hysterically funny. Aisling Bea was hilarious. It really was so much fun.

MrsJackRackham · 21/03/2020 18:00

I was on Eggheads. Took ages to film and there's no time limit to answering the questions so the Eggheads take ages pondering. When it's your turn you're taken to another part of the studio where you're perched on a wooden bench with a cushion and your chosen Egghead about 2 feet away on the same bench with their own cushion 🤣 It was great fun but sadly we were beaten on sudden death 🙁

KeyboardCat · 21/03/2020 18:42

I was in The Generation Game almost 20 years ago (Jim Davidson sadly, not Brucie) and it was good fun, but they did this whole mad introduction for our opposing couple where they kind of re-enacted a wedding. They both acted so surprised but they were dressed in bloody wedding clothes!!

We did a Japanese bow tying challenge, and think the other couple practised before as the way it was demonstrated made it very hard to see. The difference between mine and dad's bows and the others was hilarious!!

Also did the miming one, where you had to guess the singer through a song being mimed by your partner. That was bloody brilliant, but the headphones they put on you don't just make things silent there's very loud static being played through them and it was so hard to even think of a singer not to mention guess what my ridiculous dad was trying to do!!

But it was an awesome day, we always said we'd be on there one day and we were, so no complaints at all.

Except for Davidson, he was a prize knobber.

Our wobbly blokes still have pride of place at my parents house Smile

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 21/03/2020 18:48

I've applied for The Chase, am waiting to hear back. I have been to a quiz night hosted by the Dark Destroyer at my club, that was good fun, we came second so not so shabby.

Socksorting · 21/03/2020 18:55

In 2001 I was on The Weakest Link. I didn’t do the walk of shame, but I also didn’t win the prize either as I came second.

However if I had been offered the set of questions my opponent was offered I would have won.

MushroomTree · 21/03/2020 19:19

Yes. I was on Eggheads with a team of colleagues trying to win money for the charity we worked for. Unfortunately we didn't win but it was a whirlwind 24 hours being flown to Glasgow after work, filming early the next morning and then being flown back in the afternoon.

AlliKaneSon · 21/03/2020 19:20

Yes- the Weakest Link!

Moooooooooooooooooo · 21/03/2020 20:02

Hubby was on Bullseye nearly 40 years ago. Didn’t win the caravan or boat but did bring back a bully and glass tankard.

Was Anne Robinson really as cutting as she appeared on the show? I’ve read from other accounts that it’s quite slow and she’s fed/read lines that takes a while so wasn’t as quick-witted with the rude comments as the edited show made her out to be.

Socksorting · 21/03/2020 20:50

I thought Anne Robinson was pretty sharp. We didn’t have much to do with her as the Americans were over sweet talking her with the US deal.

antwacky · 21/03/2020 21:05

One of our neighbours years ago used to appear on all sorts of shows. I've seen him on Weakest Link, Countdown, Supermarket Sweep, one of the National lottery shows and various other quiz shows. I switched the radio on one day and he was on Popmaster. He was such a big head.

wondering24 · 21/03/2020 21:07

I was on kids tv show 'Wake up in the Wild Room' with Dave Benson Phillips when I was 10!!

chockaholic72 · 21/03/2020 21:17

Girl in my class was on Beat the Teacher (showing my age now). She didn’t beat the teacher but it was close. We had to get the coach down from Up North - it was a very long day, we all had to take a huge packed lunch and I remember sitting at the back of the bus while the teachers gorged on a massive picnic hamper prepared by the school secretary. I think they filmed two, and during the break we got one small carton or orange juice for about four hours sat in a boiling hot studio at telly centre. I worked for the Beeb later on in life and always remembered my first visit.

wineandcatsandlego · 21/03/2020 21:19

I applied for The Chase and got through to auditions last month, v sadly didn't get chosen despite answering the most questions right (bar one young crazy-intelligent lad who quite rightly got chosen). Was a very fun afternoon with quick fire games and laughs with my fellow auditionees. Keep an eye out for an episode with a lad who did African studies at uni, runs a foodbank with his dad and pub quizzes with his mum, I reckon he'll absolutely smash a Chaser!

Was in audience for Graham Norton show, and was on Popmaster last year Smile King Ken was a dream!
