I'm probably being unreasonable in these scary times , but I need some light relief. Have you ever been on a TV game show? Was it how you expected? Were you on Tipping point? Did you want to give him a slap when he kept repeating the questions you interrupted? Tell us the things that surprised you!

@Socksorting
I thought Anne Robinson was pretty sharp. We didn’t have much to do with her as the Americans were over sweet talking her with the US deal.

Sorry, to clarify, I meant was she as sharp witted with her insults as she appeared to be giving them to the contestants on the show (because I read that she’s fed/reads lines given to her and it takes away less impact when it doesn’t look like she just retorted to what contestants said straight away like it was rolling from her tongue, if that makes sense).

Wereonabearhunt · 21/03/2020 21:35

No gameshows unfortunately..id love to have a go on catchphrase though!!! but I can confirm peoples horror stories about come dine with me. My sister-in-law was on there. The nights are super late, there is only 1 taxi that doesnt actually take you home + they are VERY demanding. They made my sil re-paint her kitchen because the lighting was off, made her buy expensive pointless propts etc.

UnaCorda · 21/03/2020 22:51

Anne Robinson never seemed very quick-witted to me. I didn't believe she knew (or even understood) the answers herself half the time.

Osirus · 21/03/2020 23:40

A family member was on Judge Rinder. Sorry, I know not a game show but still!

AmazingAardvark · 21/03/2020 23:42

No, but I was once in the audience of Top of the Pops.

kathhere · 22/03/2020 06:51

Aah I'm glad Victoria Coren Mitchell is lovely, it would be so disappointing if she wasn't

JollyAndBright · 22/03/2020 07:44

Not me but a friend of mine filmed an episode of the chase over a year ago but is still waiting for it to air... I’m desperate to see it so I wish they would hurry up and schedule it.

She had a great day and really enjoyed the whole experience.

thesparkthatbled · 22/03/2020 08:32

I recently filmed for Pointless. We're waiting for it to air. It was so much fun filming it, we had a blast!

They do about 4 shows it a day, once you start it's very quick.

I'm excited for it to be on, but dreading watch myself!

Merryoldgoat · 22/03/2020 08:50

@JollyAndBright

I wonder which friend that was... Grin

coolwalking · 22/03/2020 08:50

I would love to hear from anyone who was on the Crystal Maze? My all time favourite game show

AlliKaneSon · 22/03/2020 10:07

Anne Robinson kept up her ‘mean’ persona all of the time; I was never sure if it was an act or if she was genuinely like it! She was really rude to me on screen for being Welsh!
I was really ill at the time, too, on masses of medication for the pain and they have to have two of the team standing behind me in case I fainted. I didn’t win, funnily enough Blush. I still maintain my questions were harder eg the person next to me had ‘who went up the ill with Jack’ and I had ‘random name’ is the Swahili (I think!) for which animal...the answer was ‘Pygmy chimpanzee’...or something along those lines! Had a lovely day with the other contestants, though.

JollyAndBright · 22/03/2020 15:16

@Merryoldgoat

😉
😂

LadyGnome · 22/03/2020 15:19

Five Gold Runs on Blockbusters

ThunderPython · 22/03/2020 15:34

My brother auditioned to be on The Chase. He got all his questions right but when it came to being picked he was told he wasn't quite right for the show. We took that to mean he was too boring and took the piss out of him 😂

looselegs · 22/03/2020 15:47

I have a friend who was on Come Dine with Me. The days were very long- she got 7 hours sleep over 3 days- the taxi literally drives you round the block to give your score then back to the house and you have to get another one home!
She got told to stop drinking, lol, but is still great friends with the people she met, and ,to top it all....she won!

GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery · 23/03/2020 11:34

I've been on about 8-9 shows and the highlight was winning The Weakest Link. I got £3230!

81Byerley · 23/03/2020 11:46

@GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery Oh wow! brilliant! What others were you on?

@81Byerley

Big Break
Ready Steady Cook
1 vs 100
The Great Pretender
Tipping Point

They are the ones I can remember. Been trying to get on Millionaire since it started.

GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery · 23/03/2020 12:12

@looselegs Why so little sleep and such long days? I would have thought that the only long day would be the day you're hosting?

MorganKitten · 23/03/2020 12:50

X factor, made it to the 3rd round

Seeitsortit · 23/03/2020 13:47

@LadyGnome that would make a great mn name Smile

GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery · 23/03/2020 14:29

Ooh. @antwacky I went on Popmaster. I somehow won on a crap 18 points and I got my three in ten, which was Guns n' Roses.

antwacky · 23/03/2020 15:23

@GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery, ohh well done, I love PM, I always play along but imagine it's quite different to taking part on the show. My ex neighbour has been on twice at least, champions of champions I think.

81Byerley · 23/03/2020 16:05

@GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery How long does it take to record Tipping Point? How big are those counters? Especially the big one? Is there an audience? How many programmes do they record in a day? Was there a contestant that got on your nerves? Personally I take against anyone who says "Come to Mama", or who has crap timing and doesn't appear to realise why they keep getting riders!

Not been on one but saw Pointless being filmed once. Or to be more accurate, saw about 8 episodes of Pointless being filmed once. They kept the audience captive. Saw one being filmed: quite fun. Two: less fun. Third: getting a bit tiresome. Fourth: was ready to kill Alexander Armstrong himself just to leave. They wouldn’t let the audience go as apparently they’re in “six episode blocks” but I fained illness so we could “go to the bathroom”. We ran, very fast.

This was in about 2012, so I can only hope they’ve starting complying with the European Court of Human Rights now and let people leave after just the one or two episodes.
