What should we name our house?

We're buying a house (tomorrow) eek! And it's a terrace but someone somewhere has decided to call it 23A and there is no 23B or 23 Hmm so we want to name it! Any ideas? We have a dog called Holly so I liked Holly Cottage but maybe it's a bit twee. But we do live in a lovely village so it would fit :)

Oh definitely Bide-a-Wee. Or, um, the Dew Drop Inn.

IanHislopForPm · 18/03/2020 02:06

Names when it has a number are a bit Hyacinth Bucket, aren’t they? How about Costa Plenti?

Goatinthegarden · 18/03/2020 02:13

Out house Is called Hector....but then I’ve named everything from the kettle to the car..... (all alliterative).

Drives my husband nuts because then I get overly attached and sad when we need to replace items...

RainbowMum11 · 18/03/2020 02:15

Do you have a holly tree outside?

Thepigeonsarecoming · 18/03/2020 02:18

Do you know what happened to to other 23b,c,d etc properties? Will they show on some haunted houses site?

IanHislopForPm · 18/03/2020 02:21

Just for clarity. I want to name it and drop the stupid number because although there is no 23 on the street just our 23A there is no option for 23A on the drop down lists for web mail and things. It confuses so many people. It'll be registered with whoever it is I have to register it with to make it official. So instead of 23A xxx street it will be xxx cottage or xxxx house on the x street does that make sense?

Ok, I’m confused about this numbering thing... You say there’s no 23a or 23. Is there a 22 and a 24? Should you not just be 23 (and Colin if you insist)?

Tuliptulip · 18/03/2020 02:22

octoberfarm · 18/03/2020 02:23

Going against the grain here but I think Holly Cottage is lovely!

CareBear50 · 18/03/2020 02:24

Belle End ?? Grin

IanHislopForPm · 18/03/2020 02:25

@Thepigeonsarecoming someone bought all the houses when the they were initially going to knocked down and made into a massive block of flats. The people were paid loads of money to leave their homes, they all did 50+ years ago. Developer swoops in, starts changing the house numbers so it would be 3 flats per house starting with 23.. Then the planning people? Decided they were all grade 2 listed because they used to belong to the national trust. Developer fucks off sells houses as is empty and we're left with bloody number 23A!

You could probably get it renumbered

GameChange123 · 18/03/2020 02:30

Llamedos?

TowelStripes · 18/03/2020 02:31

Excaliber Cottage

DanielRicciardosSmile · 18/03/2020 05:58

I'd just re-number it as 23 to be honest and leave it at that.

Hercwasonaroll · 18/03/2020 06:00

Just number it 23?

Amyspickledlime · 18/03/2020 06:01

Casabevron.

Millymaud · 18/03/2020 06:02

I’d be inclined to re number it as 23, although the house I grew up in was called Holly Cottage Smile it stood on its own, though.

Lovemornings · 18/03/2020 06:12

Holly Cottage is lovely! Just beware if you have lots of visitors and deliveries though as finding named houses is such a pain and virtually impossible at night, especially if your road is long. Expect phone calls from frustrated people trying to find you!

What’s wrong with having a number too? And are 22 and 24 close by? If so then Holly Cottage, 23 xxxx makes sense to me!

CircleofWillis · 18/03/2020 06:13

Rename it 23 and add Holly Cottage as the name. It will be easier for post. E.g. Holly Cottage, 23 Hislop Lane, Lovely Village, UK.

CircleofWillis · 18/03/2020 06:14

Cross post love mornings!

GaraMedouar · 18/03/2020 06:21

Housey McHouseface ?

Jespers · 18/03/2020 06:25

officially? Holly Cottage works but FFS sake plant some holly bushes!
Unofficially, between the two of you - Colin, or Cottagey-McCottage

Or get it properly re numbered to a number that makes sense!

PositiveVibez · 18/03/2020 06:30

Honestly I think it's a bit naff to name a terraced house. It's not a cottage is it? It's a terrace.

I'd just change it to 23.

I would definitely think it was a bit hyacinth bucket.
