To think Richard Marx was the killer in “Hazard”

Inspired by another thread about music videos.
The song Hazard by Richard Marx and it’s music video. Been watching it again after many years and I used to think it was the boyfriend that killed Mary but now I think it could have been Richard Marxs Character

I went to his concert a good few years ago and he said during the concert it was him. I always thought it was someone else and my husband said it was him, so he was smug afterwards Hmm

It was him. He as good as admits it. In his first statement he says she went walking all alone. Later he changes his story, admits that he was with her by the river, but swears he left her all alone.

I think it was deliberately ambiguous as a way to generate discussion, sell the record, and raise RMs profile on the Billboard 100.

However, for those saying it was RM, how do you explain the Sheriff's interest in Mary and his photo collection of her?

Also worth noting:
At one point, Mary does a bit of a strangle motion with the scarf on RM.
And when they are both sitting by the river, RM moves his hand away when Mary put her hand on top of his.

I think Mary is a bit of a player, interesting theory of Mary being a prostitute upthread.

BUT who is the man she's having a sesh with in the car, huh? I mean he also looks like the man who slept with Mrs mum?!?

So Mary has a boyfriend but likes and leads on Dick. Dick catches her with her bloke and runs off leaving his scarf behind. Sheriff has been trying to get him for anything because he was unable to convict him of his Mum's death (perhaps mums lover was related??) Dick hates infidelity. Mary finds scarf and realises she has been bubbled. Dick does the deed, sees her off and sheriff is pissed cos he has got away with it again. There. Solved.

The two videos are very contradictory - in the first it seems that the sheriff's attention is unwanted and that she's scared of him, but in the second, she's waving cocquettishly and the implication is that she's at least enjoying the attention, if not actively encouraging him.

Also, is she in the car with a woman? It looks more like a woman, and would explain why Richard is so bummed - not only is she not with him, but his chances are looking slimmer by the second! That might explain the sheriff as a suspect as well - she's actively 'led him on', then he catches her with a woman, making a fool of him.

I feel as though this needs thorough investigation - perhaps CV isolation will provide an opportunity for someone to close this cold case, overturn the suicide verdict and convict the right person!
