To think Richard Marx was the killer in “Hazard”

Inspired by another thread about music videos.
The song Hazard by Richard Marx and it’s music video. Been watching it again after many years and I used to think it was the boyfriend that killed Mary but now I think it could have been Richard Marxs Character

I've only got as far down the thread as @HoofWankingSpangleCunts post and would just like to take a moment to applaud your MN name @HoofWankingSpangleCunt - this will now be my 'go to' description of many people. Thank you

"My mother came to Hazard when I was just seven
Even then the folks in town said with prejudiced eyes
That boy's not right...
Three years ago when I came to know Mary
First time that someone looked beyond the rumors and the lies
And saw the man inside...
We used to walk down by the river
She loved to watch the sun go down
We used to walk along the river
And dream our way out of this town...
No one understood what I felt for Mary
No one cared until the night she went out walking alone
And never came home...
Man with a badge came knocking next morning
Here was I surrounded by a thousand fingers suddenly
Pointed right at me...
I swear I left her by the river
I swear I left her safe and sound
I need to make it to the river
And leave this old Nebraska town
I think about my life gone by
And how it's done me wrong
There's no escape for me this time
All of my rescues are gone, long gone
I swear I left her by the river
I swear I left her safe and sound
I need to make it to the river
And leave this old Nebraska town..."

@youvegottobekidding yes that bloody song it’s a stalker’s theme song. I’ll be right here waiting for you..... I have never realised that it’s also Richard Marx - and he also released an album called Repeat Offender. Talk about hiding in plain sight!

wowfudge · 15/03/2020 10:14

Richard Marx fact for you - he's married to Cynthia Rhodes who played Penny in Dirty Dancing, the ultimate 1980s coming of age film.

wowfudge · 15/03/2020 10:15

Update: they divorced a few years ago after 25 years of marriage.

CalleighDoodle · 15/03/2020 10:15

I love how this gets debated every year or so on mumsnet Grin

Becles · 15/03/2020 10:20

Not guilty!

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 15/03/2020 10:23

It’s all the fault of that Billy Joe
Why didn’t anyone just look under the Tallahatchie Bridge?

WhatchaMaCalllit · 15/03/2020 10:26

I'd just like to interject that even Richard Marx is afforded the presumption of innocence until proven guilty...PROVEN guilty people. There is insufficient evidence that proves beyond a reasonable doubt that Mary was killed and even less that it was Marx that did it.

I rest my case. 😆😆😆

Tezza1 · 15/03/2020 10:30

The sheriff was Jim West from the original 60's TV version of "The Wold Wild West" - Robert Conrad.

FlamingoAndJohn · 15/03/2020 10:38

But what was the sheriff’s motivation?

Oblomov20 · 15/03/2020 10:38

This has made me laugh. Especially pp who can't tell them apart because from the back he and Mary have the same mullet Bush!

Mydogatemypurse · 15/03/2020 10:41

Wow. I think you should re open the cold case and do a podcast

Voila212 · 15/03/2020 10:42

I think it was Richards mullet that killed Mary, jealous of her natural curly locks. Richard knows that, that's why you see him cutting his mullet off ✂

anonacfr · 15/03/2020 10:42

When I was a young teen and before there was google my dad told me that Hazard was wrote by a man on death row who had sent it to Richard Marx to try and get publicity and get a retrial to prove his innocence 🤔.

Your dad is a genius

shinyredbus · 15/03/2020 10:45

it wasn’t him! He swore he left her by the river Safe and sound. They even made plans to leave the old Nebraska town.

It was the damn sheriff. He loved her and when he saw that RM lord her and vice verse, he killed her then blamed him - poor boy. Fucking sheriff.

Littlemissdaredevil · 15/03/2020 10:50

I’m very sad. I’ve tweeted him to ask

MrsWednesdayteatime · 15/03/2020 10:58

I prefer the honesty of Nick Cave's "Where The Wild Roses Grow" at least he admits to caving her head in with a rock 🌹

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 15/03/2020 11:11

Why, thunderpunt , your kind words have quite undone me.

It's funny you say that because it was a word ovariesbeforebrovaries used to describe Jacob Rees Mogg on here, many moons ago. I love this name but I've had it a while now. I can't think of a better one though.

Pythone · 15/03/2020 11:20

Wait, were Richard and Mary officially together in the video? I think when they grew up, she got together with the man with the long hair and Richard was jealous, but she wasn't cheating on him - she picked the other man while Richard lived alone in the trailer.

I still think it was the sheriff though.

IrmaFayLear · 15/03/2020 11:23

What a coincidence this thread is: only last night I said, "Alexa! Play Richard Marx!" and I sang along to Hazard. Love a bit of Richard Marx. (And, dare I say it, Michael Bolton ...)

ThanosSavedMe · 15/03/2020 11:23

This song always reminded me of the book Of Mice or Men.

ThanosSavedMe · 15/03/2020 11:24

@IrmaFayLear - Bolton is a step too far!

Figgygal · 15/03/2020 11:27

NO chance it was the sheriff

FenellaVelour · 15/03/2020 11:29

If he wasn’t there, how did he know that Mary went walking all alone? Eh? Eh?
