To think Richard Marx was the killer in “Hazard”

Inspired by another thread about music videos.
The song Hazard by Richard Marx and it’s music video. Been watching it again after many years and I used to think it was the boyfriend that killed Mary but now I think it could have been Richard Marxs Character

I'm going to re-watch it now and see if time and experience changes my mind Grin

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 15/03/2020 02:25

I thought she committed suicide

ArriettyJones · 15/03/2020 02:25

I could swear we had this exact bonkers thread about two years ago.

#RICHARDISINNOCENT

Iamthewombat · 15/03/2020 02:35

He was about 3 ft tall and looked like he couldn't have knocked the skin off a rice pudding. Mary would have sat on him and flattened him

I get your logic, and thank you, because I laughed long and hard at this vignette. However, I am with the other posters who think he protested too much. I SWEAR I left her by the river! I SWEAR I left her safe and sound!

Littlemissdaredevil · 15/03/2020 02:54

I always thought it was the sheriff! I so want to see the third version of the video.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 15/03/2020 06:32

@ArriettyJones we did. But I can’t remember the outcome Grin

I always thought it was the sheriff.

Wotrewelookinat · 15/03/2020 06:48

OP, thank you for this thread amidst all the madness. Just....thank you!

Littlewhitedove · 15/03/2020 08:11

I just watched the video on YouTube and apart from not telling him and Mary apart from the back (same hair) I think it was the sheriff...the dirty dogHmm.

Sumsuch · 15/03/2020 08:33

I think we need a ' where are they now' update

shuuush · 15/03/2020 08:36

When I was a young teen and before there was google my dad told me that Hazard was wrote by a man on death row who had sent it to Richard Marx to try and get publicity and get a retrial to prove his innocence 🤔.

I told people this for years until I decided to google to see how it had panned out.

My Dad found it hilarious I had believed him for all those years.

occulus · 15/03/2020 08:41

@shuuush that is exactly the kind of prank my dad would play on me - convincing enough to have me believe it! He told me once that his and mum's wedding car used to belong to the King of Sweden 🤷🏻‍♀️

CarolHasAnotherUTI · 15/03/2020 08:41

It was the sheriff! Marx had said so himself

Well of course that's what he wants you to think...

FlamingoAndJohn · 15/03/2020 08:43

I’ve never really given this much thought before.

My interpretation is that as a boy he burned down the house as his mother was having an affair while the father was away in the army. He killed the mother and her boyfriend.
He then became an outcast in the town. But then Mary came along and was kind to him but one night he had a black out/ fugue state and killed her.

Lucked · 15/03/2020 08:47

I know the song but don’t remember the video.

Does he kill his mum and lover by burning his house down whilst he is child? Does the sheriff know he is a bad egg and is he scared for Mary?

Ahhh. Off to watch it again.

Careersytype · 15/03/2020 08:51

Hmm

He killed his mum and her lover...
Years later the sheriff kills Mary, pins it on RM . The second policeman knows this, and is telling the sheriff to lay off during the interrogation.

MrsSpenserGregson · 15/03/2020 08:55

Richard's character did it, but I do believe that he honestly doesn't remember - he had some sort of blackout / fugue caused by the traumatic remembering of killing his mother and her lover when he was young ...

I'm way too over-invested in this!

Hysteriawhenyourenear · 15/03/2020 09:00

It was mulletman. All day long.
Ask his neighbours, they always said that boys not right

BrightYellowDaffodil · 15/03/2020 09:01

I always thought he protested his innocence faaaaaar to much to be credible. And anyone who sings that drippily about it all afterwards has got “Guilty” slapped all over his mush.

SlatternIsTrying · 15/03/2020 09:02

Thank you for this thread, first time I have smiled all morning.

My teenager self cannot compute that Richard was responsible. But my much older cynical self is not so sure.

AJTracey · 15/03/2020 09:04

This has cheered me up!

Northernwarrior · 15/03/2020 09:09

I must watch it again I always thought it was meant to be him as she cheated on him in a car?

HowDoesTheCow · 15/03/2020 09:12

He must bear some responsibility for just leaving her down by the river and not seeing she got home safely.

Sunny4876 · 15/03/2020 09:12

I can't contemplate it being RM so has to be the sheriff!

PsuedoSatisfactionBaby · 15/03/2020 09:18

This is my favourite thread this week

Mine too! Bravo

It was the creepy sherriff

Dubdubdubtub · 15/03/2020 09:18

Thankyou for the compliments. I just though a light hearted thread might be in order
Not that poor Mary’s death is lighthearted of course. Think they need to reopen the case. Grin
