Just that really. Do you have a favourite artist? Or style? And why does it sing to you?
Only got in to art a couple of years ago and feel like a whole new world has been opened up - so would love to know who else I should be learning about.

I'm slightly obsessed with William Hogarth - I have bought several prints after seeing the exhibition last October.

floffel · 12/03/2020 21:36

Forgot to say why! For me, its a real glimpse into what life was like and the problems society had. He truly captures 'a thousand words' in his drawings

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 12/03/2020 21:38

Andy Scott. He is a Scottish “big structure” sculptor. He made The Kelpies and Aria overlooking our major motorways and my city has the most amazing representation of our city animal in Poised

I love some of Kerry Darlingtons work. I just find her pieces stunning, some so intricate and colourful. Some soothing and magical. Beautiful.

Verfremdungseffekt · 12/03/2020 21:45

Gwen John. Her portraits of women, and her self-portraits, are astonishing and uncomfortable, but I especially love her late, scratchy still lives made with layers of very dry paint on slightly wonky home-stretched canvases. And her life was so interesting.

Hellshotforgoodreason · 12/03/2020 21:49

I love robin wight. His fairy wire sculptures are amazing and are on display at trentham gardens.

bridgetreilly · 12/03/2020 21:49

Bridget Riley. Because she is a genius.

Clawdy · 12/03/2020 21:49

I love Angela Harding's prints, I was bought one of her bird prints as a special gift. She did the illustrations for the book "The Salt Path" and I'm saving up for the print of the cover!

Sloth66 · 12/03/2020 21:51

Caravaggio. Went to an exhibition a few years ago, just stunning.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 12/03/2020 21:51

Salvador Dali. I just love his work 🤷🏼‍♀️. Swans Reflecting Elephants is my favourite.

ssd · 12/03/2020 21:51

I like banksy. Clever and interesting.

Will0wtree · 12/03/2020 21:53

I love N C Wyeth. He often did illustrations, but the colouring and composition are beautiful and they stay with you, a bit like dreams...

Kerry Darlington. Lucky enough to have two.

lastqueenofscotland · 12/03/2020 21:54

Photography is my favourite medium I love Martin Parr

I also love lowrys church sketches.

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/03/2020 21:55

Velasquez - went to the Prado in Madrid years ago and was blown away. Been many times since. Man was a genius, I could stare at his works for hours

Butteredtoast55 · 12/03/2020 21:55

Another vote for Caravaggio. The depth and richness of his painting, and the absolute raw humanity, really does move me to tears.
And I love the fairies at Trentham too - I am nothing if not eclectic!

MaidenMotherCrone · 12/03/2020 21:56

Sam Cannon. Her work takes my breath away.

Lifeasweknow · 12/03/2020 21:57

Salvador Dali here too. My parents took me to Dali Theatre-Museum when I was about 8 and I've been fascinated ever since.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 12/03/2020 21:58

Konstantin Somov - i'm always instantly transported by his work; and his use of light is just poetic.

LeafyGreen333 · 12/03/2020 21:59

John Singer Sargent - the way he captures light in his portraits is truly stunning

Useryokyesno · 12/03/2020 21:59

Ooh love a bit of Martin parr I met him onece when he did a talk at my uni, so excited!

Think mine is probably Elizabeth Price.

Roselilly36 · 12/03/2020 22:00

I am fond of Dali’s work too.

HeronLanyon · 12/03/2020 22:01

Heron and Lanyon Grin

wowfudge · 12/03/2020 22:01

Living artist - Banksy. I love Lowry's paintings, but don't think I'd want one on my wall. I've always loved Monet and Turner's work and Toulouse-Lautrec's posters.

AutumnRose1 · 12/03/2020 22:02

Amanda Clark
Nicholas Hely Hutchinson

For classics, I guess Van Gogh, Maxfield Parrish and the Pethers, I gather there’s confusion over who did what. John Atkinson Grimshaw.

What a lovey thread.
