Just that really. Do you have a favourite artist? Or style? And why does it sing to you?
Only got in to art a couple of years ago and feel like a whole new world has been opened up - so would love to know who else I should be learning about.

Andre Kohn. I don't know what it is about his Parisian women but I just love them.

George Shaw is a contemporary artist from Coventry who paints beautiful oil paintings of the alleyways/ 70s estate pubs/ fenced weed patches on the estate where he's from. They move me probably because of the poignancy of nostalgia for the places a lot of us played in as children, but it's also finding the beauty in the ordinary- the sunset over the school fence or the cherry blossom next to the graffiti.

I love pop art so if I was asked on the spot I'd probably say Roy Lichtenstein because his are the most iconic of the genre to me. I still kick myself for giving up on the opportunity to bid for one of his original pieces at an auction many years ago. It was a smaller lesser known one (and I wish I could remember which one now) and I had come into some money shortly before but we just had other things that were more important.

We recently saw some of the da Vinci sketches and they really hit me. I hadn't really been into him much before but there are so many little details in his sketches which somehow don't jump out unless you see them in person.

I'm definitely a fan of seeing art in person, it's so different. I saw Titian's Diana and Actaeon a few years ago and while I knew what it looked like I wasn't prepared for the sheer size of it.

I love drawings by Paul Nash, especially of Dymchurch beach. He was a recovering war artist.

Caravaggio. The light, the decadence.

Put me in front of a Turner and I'm transfixed by his mastery of light. The way he rendered water as well just takes my breath utterly away.
Edouard Manet is my absolute favourite, his depiction of portraiture and gesture I find strangely mythical, like a fairytale in the real world. My favourite painting of his is Plum Brandy, but I also love Nana. There are stories in those paintings.
I also adore Degas!

Ah! I have so many favorites but I'll mention a few.

Chagall for his colors and dreamlike scenes.
El Greco for the transcendent quality of his paintings.

Modigliani--I love the elongated forms he used (a bit like El Greco, but not).

So many, it's impossible to choose just one. I've loved Hopper and Magritte since I was a teenager. Colombian artist Botero for his playful paintings. And Catriona Hall for her quirky animal portraits.
