Kissing your kids on the lips

greenflower279 · 11/03/2020 21:31

Have seen a couple posts about this on other SM sites.

Is it unreasonable to think it is absolutely ludicrous to think there is anything wrong with kissing your kids on the lips??

Curious on other people's thoughts.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a peck. If I kiss ds I do it on the cheek, if he kisses he does it on the lips. He must've seen me and his dad peck on the lips and copied.

TypingError · 11/03/2020 21:38

I don't see anything wrong with it but it's something I never did. It was little fat cheeks I plonked a kiss on. We've neither of us ever kissed our children on lips.

RandomMess · 11/03/2020 21:40

I find it 🤮 but don't think there is anything wrong or creepy with it.

Yellowcakestand · 11/03/2020 21:41

No there isn't... But I get coldsores a lot so I am very careful not to do this, Which is sad.
If anyone else kissed my DC on the lips though I wouldn't be happy.

crispysausagerolls · 11/03/2020 21:42

Is there anything nicer than your child coming to you for a kiss?! DS now puckers up properly for a lip kiss, but from 6months he used to just open wide like some sort of fish and cover my mouth to try to kiss. It was wet, but really I miss it! Yay for kisses!

crispysausagerolls · 11/03/2020 21:43

(Has taken a lot of explaining though for him to understand he is NOT TO KISS THE DOG ON THE MOUTH) 🤣🤣🤣🤣

SemperIdem · 11/03/2020 21:45

Nothing wrong with it!

But my own daughter is happier with cheek kisses, perhaps because she went to a private nursery fairly young.

meow1989 · 11/03/2020 21:50

DH and I kiss ds(20 months) on the lips (and face and feet and hands and tummy and nape of his neck and anywhere I can get at!). Hes scrummy. I suppose there will become and age where its "wierd" and we will follow his lead.

The only thing I'm not keen on is he tiried to do the same to others so I try to get him to do it on the cheek for them.

Nothing wrong with it, my 3 year old loves to give me huge slobbering kisses if I wipe my face he tells me No mum leave the kisses there 🤣

My teen doesn't do mouth kisses anymore but I couldn't tell you when she stopped

GrumpyHoonMain · 11/03/2020 22:05

Most babies (the vast majority infact) who get neonatal herpes get them from open sores from their mothers’ genital herpes.

crispysausagerolls · 11/03/2020 22:09

@Sickoffamilydrama

“Leave the kisses there” - heartmeltingly precious!

anappleadaykeeps · 11/03/2020 22:11

I knew a 25 year old guy who still kissed his mother on the lips. It was pretty weird.

Knocksomesense · 11/03/2020 22:13

My three year old loves lip kisses. Big smackers. It's funny though because although I don't mind my husband kissing him on the lips, I really don't like it. I tolerate it because there's nothing wrong with it but I hate it. This makes me feel guilty

PinkiOcelot · 11/03/2020 22:17

Why would you? Not necessary.
I used to get terrible coldsores from someone who kissed me when I was a child. I don’t see the need to inflict them on my dc.

Littlebookwormiam · 11/03/2020 22:20

I kiss my DC its on the cheek but if DC kiss me it's on the lips. Don't see the issue at all.

Ydl22 · 11/03/2020 22:21

GrumpyHoonMain

Wtf does that have to do with kissing on the lips?

Ilovefoodnotgym · 11/03/2020 22:24

I kiss DC2 on the lips because he’s little. DC1 barely lets me kiss her forehead because she’s a teen brat. Nothing wrong or weird about kissing your babies.

Raspberrytruffle · 11/03/2020 22:43

I kiss my kids on their lips I dont see an issue with it? If they however expressed not wanting to be kissed on the lips not a problem whatever they are comfortable with. I think people that claim its sick etc well it says more about them then us!

Summer135 · 11/03/2020 22:44

Nothing wrong with it! My 7 year old gives me a huge kiss on the lips every morning before school on the playground. She wouldn't leave without running up to me to do so. When she feels like she wants to stop she can but I won't be telling her to. They are our children! There are a lot worse things happening than parents and children kissing on the lips 😘

LowcaAndroidow · 11/03/2020 22:45

I definitely kiss my 2 and 6 year olds on the lips but possibly not my 9 year old. I reckon it's the kind of thing that naturally tails off.

DelurkingAJ · 11/03/2020 22:46

DH kisses DMIL on the lips to this day and I did find it very strange at first. But now DSs do so to me (I am not given any other option...if DS2 wishes to kiss me he will hold my head still firmly)...and I find it less weird.
