My friend has gone mad right?

A friend of mine has recently got engaged. She is VERY excited. All good, this is lovely. She has a very large solitaire ring which is beautiful. She was showing me today over coffee and I oohed and aahed with appropriate gushiness.

She then said “I know, it’s SO lovely! I wouldn’t like rings like yours. Your wedding ring is so overshadowed by your engagement ring and your wedding ring would be so much better if it was a bit wider as it just looks like you’re engaged. I’m so lucky that I got to go and choose my engagement ring because I really wanted something to my taste and I’d have had to pretend a bit if I got yours”

She’s mental to voice this, to care and to give any thought to my rings, right? 😂

I’ll post a picture of my very ordinary and not worthy of remark rings (I love them, I just say ordinary as think they’re pretty normal and not remark worthy as I know whenever I read a post where someone describes things I’m nosy about what it looks like. Also not offended by anyone else’s opinion on my rings if they can even be bothered to have one!).

My friend has gone mad right?

@CathyTre

But you said you were going for a drink at half six. Did you go?

Shinycat · 10/03/2020 20:36

And bed this early??? Do you have to get up at 4am? Grin

CathyTre · 10/03/2020 20:36

one pint and a glass of wine in the village pub is quite quick!

Jesus. I’m a parent and step parent. No kids in this house tonight? Who wouldn’t drink quickly?! 😂

Shyour rings are lovely OP and she is rude. She's entitled to her opinion,of course, but she should just think it,not come out with it in such an offensive manner!

willowpatterns · 10/03/2020 20:49

She also asked me to be bridesmaid

Say no!!!

BumbleBeee69 · 10/03/2020 21:04

She's a poisonous little viper and has shown you her true colours right there OP.. what a horrible bitch... 😳

samb80 · 10/03/2020 21:07

Rude! And quite nasty I would say.
I would absolutely never pass comment (other than complimenting) on someone else's engagement / wedding ring - it's so personal to the couple.
Get yourself out of bridesmaids duties quick!

samb80 · 10/03/2020 21:09

I bet shes the sort of person that would tell you, you had an ugly baby!

Sickandscared · 10/03/2020 21:13

Your rings are beautiful. She's a weirdo. I'm selfishly pleased you are going to be bridesmaid (unless you've declined - not rtft) as I think we will get plenty of hilarious bridezilla stories.

Sickandscared · 10/03/2020 21:14

I'm also in bed btw but I had chemo earlier so I have an excuse

cakeandchampagne · 10/03/2020 21:18

Your “friend” is rude.
(And your rings are lovely.)

Pinkypink · 10/03/2020 21:19

Your rings are lovely. Understated and beautiful.
Dont be her bridesmaid... it has nightmare written all over it

billy1966 · 10/03/2020 21:24

I think you were dead right not to get upset over such obvious rudeness OP.....

However, I honestly fail to see words like that could come out of the mouth of someone who was genuinely nice.

She sounds like a gobshite that I would avoid.

I agree with all the others that suspect you are going to have a few Bridezilla stories going forward...

Be prepared.
Oh, and your rings are lovely Flowers

Notredamn · 10/03/2020 21:25

Sounds like she had a massive brain fart and ran with it good and proper 😂 she probably intended to just say something like 'thanks yes I'm so pleased with it, it's just what I'd have chosen myself as it's right up my street' and ended up comparing yours unfavourably to demonstrate what she meant. She might be mortified.

Mulhollandmagoo · 10/03/2020 21:26

I like yours!! Mine is very similar, I have quite a thin wedding band and a larger engagement ring. That's my taste, hers maybe different, but there's no need for her to be rude about it, she should have said nothing

Georgie31 · 10/03/2020 21:35

I've recently got engaged! I didn't pick it my partner well now fiancé picked it himself and proposed as a surprise. Is that not how it's suppose to happen?! I would hate to have to pick out my own. We've recently purchased our first home too!! One thing I've noticed with these types of things.... others like to pick out faults in your success through jealousy. Sounds to me she's jealous of you for what ever reason and is making herself feel better by pointing out things that she feels are wrong. Has she ever made comments like this before with anything else?

ddl1 · 10/03/2020 21:43

She's certainly very rude! Yours are lovely!

Nquartz · 10/03/2020 21:44

Maybe this is her ring & she's jealous of yours....

Chickychickydodah · 10/03/2020 21:46

She’s obviously not thinking straight, yours are beautiful. If she says anything again tell her to sod off ...

Oysterbabe · 10/03/2020 21:50

My rings are very similar to yours. I love my simple, thin wedding band.

Itsmybirthdaytoday20 · 10/03/2020 21:52

Some things don’t need to be said!

maa1992 · 10/03/2020 21:52

I like your rings. I like my rings, very simple. My friend has a bling bling type that I'd never want, to each their own

thepeopleversuswork · 10/03/2020 22:05

What a rude, shallow twat, I couldn’t remain friends with someone like this.
