I have multiple gallstones and am awaiting gallbladder removal surgery.

Currently experiencing a horrid gallbladder attack. Been in pain since 22;00 but the tramadol is wearing off. Will admit it's not the worse attack I've ever had. Very very uncomfortable though.

Worried if I go in and take some more I won't be in so much pain and am wasting their time or the next load of tramadol will kick in and I'll feel alright again.

It's also my 30th birthday today.and DS dosn't sleep well without me here (bought him into our bed with me and DH earlyer because he's a general terrible sleeper)

YABU - stay home, take more tramadol. Woman up.

YANBU - get a taxi to a+e and pray they decidde to remove gallbladder tonight as a birthday present instead of waiting another 4-6minths on the waiting list.

Hileni Great to hear from you. So glad it all went well minus the faint bless ya. Hope you have a restful and comfy night. You should get home tomorrow and wishing you a very speedy recovery.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 10/03/2020 00:17

All the best for a speedy recovery OP. Did they let you see your stones? I had mine out three weeks ago, nine big buggers each about 1cm diameter, I was amazed when I saw them! My husband’s reaction was “OMG how were you not rattling like a maraca?!)” Grin

Nice easy recovery ( though I was elective not emergency) and so great nit to worry about attacks any more.

SeaToSki · 10/03/2020 01:48

Glad it went well. Try and get a little sleep. We will watch over you while you snooze.

Hileni · 10/03/2020 03:49

@pluiedeprintemps those cards p are brilliant! Thanks

That was a birthday you’ll never forget! I hope you get back to sleep soon & wish you a speedy recovery.

Frownette · 10/03/2020 06:17

Older, wiser and gallstone free!

Hope you got some sleep because you can't have got any on Sunday night. I suspect the next lot of painkillers knocked you out. Happy home going, have a lovely Tuesday Brew

nettie434 · 10/03/2020 06:35

Hope you managed to get some sleep Hileni and are feeling a bit better.

gingersausage · 10/03/2020 07:20

Well done @Hileni for getting through this, you’re stronger than you thought you were Flowers.

@SimplySteveRedux I’ve had the endo, ultrasound endo, and MRI and they didn’t find anything, so that’s reassuring as obviously it’s something that would’ve been picked up. Thanks.

@Darbs76 that’s what DrGoogle has led me towards Wink but I’ve had so many flipping tests surely they would’ve spotted it? But it hasn’t even been mentioned as a possibility.

Refereenotamum · 10/03/2020 07:30

I had the same as you and had to go to hospital every time it was unbearable you need to be careful as I ended up with pancreatitis a few times and it’s serious so I would go

Darbs76 · 10/03/2020 08:54

@gingersausage - SOD can be hard to diagnose. We have some SOD Facebook groups which are very supportive - I am admin on one, come and join us. Think it’s called Sphincter of Oddi UK & Ireland. My SOD was diagnosed by ERCP and manometry test. They don’t always do it as it’s risky and can cause acute pancreatitis attacks (did for me) so they sometimes diagnose on symptoms. SOD type 1&2 have either high liver levels LFTs or dilated bile duct, or both. There is a SOD 3 which has no evidence via bloods or duct but after a big study many doctors are saying that doesn’t exist anymore (rubbish). It’s not an easy condition to diagnose. Took 5yrs for me to be diagnosed with SOD and Chronic pancreatitis after my GB removal, I had to go to different hospitals and push for answers. Don’t give up

lynzpynz · 10/03/2020 08:56

Ask for a commode instead of the bedpan, bit more dignified! Speedy recovery OP!

pluiedeprintemps · 10/03/2020 09:25

@Hileni

So glad you got your operation.Welcome to your gallbladder free decade. I hope you managed to sleep at one point. And don't feel bad about flashing your arse - I'm sure more than one women has gone out for her birthday, got quite drunk, stumbled and shown more of her body than she would have liked to strangers ... yours is just a slightly alternative birthday, with the NHS providing free drugs.
It might not seem funny now, and it must be hard to be away from your son, but I hope that one day you can look back and find it worse insignificant and at best slightly amusing.
I hope you have a very speedy recovery.

(And yes I love her cards - she has loads of very good ones on her website, at a point I was quite sick and quite a few of my friends send cards done by her - there must have been an article on her somewhere - and honestly they were the ones that made me laugh and smile because some sympathy cards just pissed me off...)

This is such a lovely post OP - you were in pain, you needed an operation, you got it. 🙌🙌🙌🙌

Your 30th is definitely one to remember!

Hileni · 10/03/2020 10:31

Morning everyone! Got a bit of sleep last night between 4-7am. Got up to the loo - finally!! - and had a shower and so the doctor is happy to discharge me! Woohoo! Looking forward to going home and having a proper sleep and maybe even a slice of birthday cake!

Thank you so so soooo much for all your lovely messages.

Such good news @Hileni.
Enjoy your belated birthday 🎂

mygrandchildrenrock · 10/03/2020 11:10

I hope your recovery continues to go well. Don’t be tempted to do too much too soon.

BlueTongueSkink · 10/03/2020 12:25

Happy belated birthday OP and hope you recover quickly!
Enjoy that slice of cake!

Hileni · 10/03/2020 12:36

This could only happen to me.. I'm one of those weirdos that actually loves hospital food / areoplane food / school dinners. Filled out my menu last night as I was so excited about eating today.

Haven't eaten in 3 days now and was so looking forward to lunch. It was lamb pie with Savoy cabbage and a slice of cake!!!! Counting down the minutes.

They came to me last and said they lost my menu and all they had left was... a side salad.

No cake left either. I'm having a little cry under my blanket now. It was all I could think about last night to keep my mind off of panicking.

God how pathetic is that.

Oh no that is a nightmare! Don’t hospitals have an obligation to feed patients properly for health reasons? Can you walk to the cafe maybe?

And did they let you see your stones?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/03/2020 13:37

And did they let you see your stones?

I've got mine in a little Kilner jar - I'm quite proud of them!

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 10/03/2020 13:47

Mine are in a little urine sample tub, my son loves rattling it. I was amazed at how big they were, though I’m told that small ones are actually more dangerous as more likely to get lodged in the bile duct.

Frownette · 10/03/2020 13:59

Oh OP that's not on. What time are you getting picked up, can you go for a nice hot lunch then?

nettie434 · 10/03/2020 14:26

Oh no - after 3 days of not eating, that lunch must have looked so tempting. Hoping some virtual belated birthday Cake is not too triggering. Safe home later today!

gingersausage · 10/03/2020 15:21

Oh no what a nightmare @Hileni! To be fair though they probably messed up and shouldn’t have let you order what you did, I’m fairly sure you’re supposed to be on very low fat diet straight after surgery so they’ve saved you from it going straight through, so to speak Wink. I was in three days and got varying flavours of vegetable soup for every meal 😒.

Hileni · 10/03/2020 17:20

Yyyyyyyeeesasa!!! They lost the whole of my bay's menus and two of the dinner staff said there wasn't enough for me because there was no menu (that they lost) but a lovely nurse faught my case and made sure I got served first. Annnnddd swiped me a secret slice of chocolate cake!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday to me!!!!!

Should I get a taxi to A&E
