Should I get a taxi to A&E

I have multiple gallstones and am awaiting gallbladder removal surgery.

Currently experiencing a horrid gallbladder attack. Been in pain since 22;00 but the tramadol is wearing off. Will admit it's not the worse attack I've ever had. Very very uncomfortable though.

Worried if I go in and take some more I won't be in so much pain and am wasting their time or the next load of tramadol will kick in and I'll feel alright again.

It's also my 30th birthday today.and DS dosn't sleep well without me here (bought him into our bed with me and DH earlyer because he's a general terrible sleeper)

YABU - stay home, take more tramadol. Woman up.

YANBU - get a taxi to a+e and pray they decidde to remove gallbladder tonight as a birthday present instead of waiting another 4-6minths on the waiting list.

Frownette my gallbladder attacks were triggered by anything with any hint of fat content, I couldn’t eat cheese, butter, the list was endless as they all started an attack that could last hours and I’d be in agony. The first time it happened I thought I was having a heart attackBlush

Hope you’re okay op. I had gallstones around august time last year. Went to A&E 3 times in total. The third time was the worst pain of my life (tons tons worse than labour) and it was pancreatitis that time caused by the gallstones. I ended up in hospital for 10 days waiting to be well enough for them to operate. Finally had my gallbladder out. Best thing I’ve ever done. I can eat whatever I want now and no bad effects, other than needing to poo urgently when I need to, like run to the toilet urgent. But other than that it’s all fine and I don’t find it happens often or is too bad. What a 30th birthday present for you though! Hope you’re okay, wishing you a speedy recovery, it’s super hard with a little one, I was told not to lift my baby for 2 weeks and it felt like torture. Had to move back in with my dad for that time as my partner couldn’t have it all off work. Feel better soon and feel free to message with any questions. Also the gas pain after the surgery in your shoulder etc is horrible but it eases off after a couple of days.

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/03/2020 18:26

Happy birthday to you! I had mine out just over a year ago (pregnancy number 2 destroyed it, my baby was only 4 weeks when they removed it).

For the cynics, bugger off. The pain is horrific - I had an accident a few years back where I broke my knee and my elbow simultaneously. The pain from the gallbladder was worse. C section recover (x 2), including one infection - not even close to gallbladder.

Hope surgery goes/has gone well.

@notbeingfunnybut oh god, what a joyless existence :(

Also the gas pain after the surgery in your shoulder etc is horrible but it eases off after a couple of days.

I drank loads of peppermint tea and didn't have a problem with the gas pain. One tip I was given by a nurse that I still use now if I have indigestion is to stand up with my arms above my head as that releases the gas.

HileniHappy Birthday and what a present!! I had my gall bladder out last year after many attacks. I genuinely thought with my last attack that I was going to die, the pain was excruciating, worse than labour. I had keyhole surgery out the same day fast recovery. So glad you will feel better again especially with a baby to care for. Flowers and Cake for you.

Hileni · 09/03/2020 23:05

Hi everyone, surgery went well, took about 2 hours. In quite a lot of pain - the morphine hasn't done alot but it's no worse that a gallbladder attack - probably a bit milder tbh! The ward I'm on is so big and spacious which is such a contrast to where I was for the last stayn on the labour recovery ward. It's really quiet too so hopefully if my next lot of pain meds.kick in, I'll get a snooze.

I've had a couple of funny turns where I've tried to get up / use the loo/commode and fainted which was lovely for the other bay as they got full view of my bare arse! Blush for quite a while too as the nurses struggles to move me from my awkward position. Really Need a wee but I'll have to use a bedpan which I'm not looking forward too.

DH came to visit this eve which was so lovely didnt bring my b/day presents mind my mum went over after work to watch my little boy when he visited.

This is the longest I've been away from DS so feeling quite emotional. However, I can't even begin to tell you how much your lovely messages are helping my anxiety. I don't feel so alone and vunerable like I did last time. So thank you so so much, it means the world to me.
