Just had a seizure!

imamearcat · 07/03/2020 23:27

I'm a bit freaked out. I've had a few drinks but not hammered. I got up to hug DH and collapsed, started shaking/ fitting.

I'm ok now, in bed with glass of water. But not sure why this happened? I have had some dizziness recently when standing up / bending down. Eat well, healthy weight.

Any ideas?

"I've just had a seizure" says the OP
"Should I"
A) ring the doctor
B) ignore it and go to bed
C) start a thread on MN.

OP, sometimes, it's kind of best to leave the mammy forums be and ring someone who might be a bit more qualified.

Meant !

Zombiemum1946 · 07/03/2020 23:51

You may be right and it's easily dealt with, BUT, it does need urgent review. You could have had a serious accident. It may sound over dramatic but please get checked. What if you'd behind the wheel of a car ? Seizures have many triggers, and take many different forms. You need to find yours.

hairygodmother · 07/03/2020 23:53

I had a seizure in October, manifested exactly like a stroke. Turned out to be a brain tumour. Call 999.

Not helping @n00bMaster69. If a thread annoys you move on. No one is forcing you to read it.
Hope youre okay now, op. Fingers crossed it was just ‘one of those things’. However you need to get it checked out. Flowers

TangoWhisky · 07/03/2020 23:53

I had a fit / seizure

I just fainted

Which one is it OP?
Do you remember?
What did your husband actually say you did? His asleep?! Nice !

Ok, I am going to freak you out a bit. I had one seizure, felt fine. Had another within 24 hours, then another. I went into status epilepticas and had to be put into a coma for 4 weeks. Phone 111.

To put it into perspective, I also know 4 people who have had one off seizures and been ok but still went to a and e.

From the NHS website;

Dial 999 and ask for an ambulance if: it's the first time someone has had a seizure. the seizure lasts for more than 5 minutes. the person doesn't regain full consciousness, or has several seizures without regaining consciousness.

Please call 111.

Not helpful because I recommend that the op seek medical advice?

Hope youre okay now, op. Fingers crossed it was just ‘one of those things’.

Yeah, fingers crossed hunxx
Much better advice Hmm

SurpriseSparDay · 07/03/2020 23:57

ring someone who might be a bit more qualified.

Surely what you mean is ‘ring someone who might be held accountable for their advice’.

There’s no reason to suppose that there are not suitably qualified people posting here - it’s just that the OP can’t know who they are.

Amazed that the OP’s husband has gone to sleep. How much had you both had to drink?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/03/2020 23:58

I meant when you accused of attention seeking. I never said the words “your advice was shit”

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/03/2020 23:59

Also I too advised op to get checked out.
I think it’s a case of only reading what you want to read.

hairygodmother · 08/03/2020 00:01

Thanks awlookatmybabyspider.

OP it could be a slight stroke. They can check you out in A&E, they can give you a CT scan to rule it out at least.

TangoWhisky · 08/03/2020 00:02

I had an episode.... Not that i remember...
Fell backwards, went stiff, slightly shook, was being sick at the time...
It was the start of kidney failure

Isla727 · 08/03/2020 00:03

It sounds like Orthostatic Hypotension but do discuss with GP.

Winterwoollies · 08/03/2020 00:06

Any unexplained seizures need emergency medical investigation. You should have been taken to hospital immediately.

Seizures can happen for any reason ranging from the mild - dehydration and low blood sugar, to the extreme - brain tumour and other neurological conditions.

Do not treat this as nothing. Please.

Skierrdery · 08/03/2020 00:08

They need to rule out testable conditions. Therefore, A&E.

Skierrdery · 08/03/2020 00:10

Low magnesium perhaps. Innocent treatable explanation, but serious if not treated.
To all sorts of things.

SurpriseSparDay · 08/03/2020 00:11

Thing is, no one - drunk or sober - wants to find themselves in A&E on a Saturday night ...

Skierrdery · 08/03/2020 00:13

Lol, especially not drunk I guess.

imamearcat · 08/03/2020 00:15

I'm gonna get a good nights sleep. I have experienced similar feelings before so I doubt it's a brain tumour. I have low blood pressure, maybe that. Will discuss with doc next week. Thanks for replies though.

So what was the point of posting?

Your going against everyone's advice

Badtasteflump · 08/03/2020 00:19

I honestly dont think waiting in A&E with drunks on a Saturday night will bean issue if you call an ambulance and tell them what just happened. It’s good not to panic, but some situations are genuine emergencies and this is one of them.

Call 999, or at least call 111, who will probably also get an ambulance to you.

Badtasteflump · 08/03/2020 00:20

Jeez. I really hope you’re ok OP!

Aveisenim · 08/03/2020 00:22

Wake your DH up and get your ass to A+E. NOW. Seizures are no joke.
