Just had a seizure!

I'm a bit freaked out. I've had a few drinks but not hammered. I got up to hug DH and collapsed, started shaking/ fitting.

I'm ok now, in bed with glass of water. But not sure why this happened? I have had some dizziness recently when standing up / bending down. Eat well, healthy weight.

Any ideas?

I have epilepsy. Drinking can trigger seziures its actually quiet a common trigger. I would get seen by your GP asap. They can do a few tests to determine if its epilepsy or something else. Try not to worry and get rest. But do get yourself checked it. Sezuires are normal and are often the first sign of an underlying problem.

jmcg2015 · 08/03/2020 00:40

Why would her DH be concerned when she obviously isn't? Nothing adds up with this story at all

NoMoreDickheads · 08/03/2020 00:41

@jmcg2015 has a point to an extent. I have no reason to disbelieve that you had a fit, but OP, was your DH really plastered that he just effectively went 'meh?' I would call 999 straight away if anyone had a fit (at least when they haven't had them before) in front of me.

jmcg2015 · 08/03/2020 00:42

Well yes, or call the hospital one's self if such a thing happened

musicposy · 08/03/2020 00:45

I had the same as you, OP, thought it was nothing but phoned 111. They insisted I was checked by paramedics who in turn insisted I go to hospital.

You should not be leaving it - you should be acting now.

I’ve not been allowed to drive since despite no recurrence. I had to send my licence to DVLA. I’ve had a crazy amount of tests since. Like you i thought it was nothing, but they are taking it seriously. I’m not meant to climb or to swim or bathe unattended, amongst other things.

You absolutely must not drive until you’ve had medical advice, which honestly, should be tonight. It can seem like nothing but sudden death in epilepsy is a thing. A first seizure should never be ignored.

MyfanwyMontez · 08/03/2020 00:50

You must have been very frightened OP and seizures are horrible to witness . Hope you get checked out and all is well with you.

Sobeyondthehills · 08/03/2020 00:59

Did you have a fit or did you legs give away?

Proudownerofplants · 08/03/2020 01:02

I have epilepsy.

My first seizure, which terrified my then partner, subsided. I came to. This was followed by another seizure once I was in the ambulance he had very considerately called. I think I was given buccal midazolam to stop the seizure as I had no history of seizures, no investigation into underlying causes and for all my partner knew, I could have gone into status epilepticus. Which doesn't always end well.

There could be any number of explanations. You should at least call 111. Don't just ignore a first seizure (or what looks like a seizure).

And do not drive until this has been investigated and you have been cleared. You would be putting your life and others' at risk.

TiddyTid · 08/03/2020 01:03

Have you eaten OP? I have low blood pressure and can feel like this if I get up too quickly, bath too hot etc.

Carys123 · 08/03/2020 01:04

General advise is to call 999 if you have never had a seizure before.

Theowbh · 08/03/2020 01:07

Wow

JemimaPuddleCat · 08/03/2020 01:09

Precious posts suggests that OP has a bit of a self-assessed problem with alcohol.

As they have said its happened before after drinking, stood up, felt dizzy and had to sit down, I'd guess it was related. And to the known low blood pressure.

It doesn't sound like a seizure. OP if you are concerned, please try to see your GP on Monday (if not any worse before then, of course). I'd also mention the drinking if you can.

tootiredtoclean · 08/03/2020 01:18

It sounds like you're blood pressure is dropping when you are standing up (easily checked with a nurse at gp surgery), you are worn out, or dehydrated. Doesn't sound like a seizure. Rest up, drink plenty and this will also help with BP and get it checked if it's not gone in a few days (p.s I'm a nurse) xxx

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/03/2020 01:24

They have these things called Taxis.

Yes which cost this thing called ‘money’ which not everyone has.

ineedaholidaynow · 08/03/2020 01:35

I have low blood pressure and can get dizzy when getting up quickly or when dehydrated but have never fitted.

I would like to think my DH would have phoned for medical advice if he saw me having a seizure, not got to bed.
......
Mine bundled me into the car and took me to A&E where I was kept sedated (in case I had another fit), given a lumbar puncture, an MRI and woke up with a drip in my arm to people round my bed asking me my name, how old I was and who was the prime minister, etc.

There was nothing wrong with me thankfully and eventually I went home after a couple of days of absolute hell. I told husband if ever it happened again under no circumstances was he to take me to hospital, if he did I'd leave him for good. However I don't blame him, he said it was really frightening. That was about seven years ago.

TangoWhisky · 08/03/2020 02:55

@Lynda07
Hope that was a joke.
Your poor husband.
You can die from fitting. Do you know that?

I do know that. A very dear friend who was epileptic died aged forty. Her epilepsy was unstable though she had tried all sorts of medication prescribed for her. Epileptic fits are a strain on the heart, she had had loads of fits since she was young. She knew her heart was enlarged.
Generally though, one fit will not kill you.

There's no way I blamed my husband, I probably would have done the same had the situation been reversed; I wouldn't have been able to carry him to the car, he was a really big and tall man, but would have telephoned for an ambulance.

In fact that is what happened last year when my husband fell on the floor in the kitchen because his leg gave way and couldn't get up. I phoned my son who lives near and was, thankfully, at home, to come and help me but we just couldn't lift him so so son phoned for an ambulance which arrived fairly quickly.

BritWifeinUSA · 08/03/2020 03:12

I have epilepsy. I don’t know how much time passed between the fit and posting in here but after my seizures I’m very drowsy and certainly couldn’t post on the Internet for a few hours. I usually fall asleep after a seizure. I feel exhausted, drained.

But there are different types, of course.

ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 08/03/2020 07:37

I guess it wasn't a fit then. Fits are terrifying to see and if my dh had a fit i wouldn't be in bed asleep. Id be with him at a&e.

spongejack · 08/03/2020 07:45

I'm gonna get a good nights sleep. I have experienced similar feelings before so I doubt it's a brain tumour. I have low blood pressure, maybe that. Will discuss with doc next week. Thanks for replies though.

So what was the point of the original post? Tennis

Xdes · 08/03/2020 07:49

Your crazy ! Why would you not go to hospital

Booboostwo · 08/03/2020 07:52

If your DC had a seizure would you go to bed and wait a week to speak with a doctor?

When my DC had a seizure we called for an ambulance, they came very quickly, took us to hospital and she was kept in for a few days while they did a lumbar puncture, neuro tests, etc. They also sent us for an MRI but it was less urgent as she didn’t have any repeat seizures. All was fine in the end ( seizure was probably because of an earlier viral infection, chicken pox) but you are very rash to ignore this.

I don't understand this thread, I've never had anything like that happen to me but if I did I'd be clamouring for medical attention.
