Just had a seizure!

I'm a bit freaked out. I've had a few drinks but not hammered. I got up to hug DH and collapsed, started shaking/ fitting.

I'm ok now, in bed with glass of water. But not sure why this happened? I have had some dizziness recently when standing up / bending down. Eat well, healthy weight.

Any ideas?

Really wanted to say how ridiculous this thread is - from OP not replies - I'm shocked that someone would post this on here then get pissy when ppl are understandably concerned & a bit fucked off. Think it's the first time I've hoped someone is attention seeking 🤷🏼‍♀️

A lot of PPs have posted with knowledge on what this incident could have been. This has included relatively non- urgent possibilities such as low blood pressure. Pps include one nurse, not sure what the others do.

Can I please respectfully ask that next time you suggest that a medical issue like this may be something non-urgent, you caveat your post saying that it could also be very serious and the OP should get attention?

Obv I mean in situations like this one, not where someone has a blister on their foot or something.

In this case it wasn't clear from the OP and subsequent updates what had actually happened and if it was a seizure, it shouldn't have been ignored (I'm not a medic but could have potentially died from ignoring a first seizure).

I fully respect that nurses and Drs on the thread know a lot more than me and the description may have sounded like an example of low blood sugar or whatever.

I don't think we were getting a clear picture though and the OP would have read reassurance into a lot of the posts when if they had what they thought was a seizure, the right course of action was not to wander off to bed.

That's not a seizure... it's fainting most likely with convulsive syncope. Happens to me when I'm afraid strangely, people panic!

You stood up too fast and your blood pressure nose dived. Then you convulsed. You'll most likely be fine

NoSauce · 08/03/2020 17:43

Sounds like you were a bit pissed more than anything and maybe needed some cheese on toast. Doesn’t sound like a seizure to me.

I think I probably just fainted. Am seeing the GP next week so will mention in then
.......
Good, that is sensible. Better to be safe than sorry.

If you faint you don't go rigid then into spasms, a fit is quite different. You wouldn't know because you'd be unconscious but your husband would, do ask him exactly what it was like so you can give your doctor the right information.

conduitoffortune · 08/03/2020 19:18

If you aren't concerned about having the seizure monitored properly fine, but you need to notify the DVLA and will not be allowed to drive for 6 months. This is the bottom line whatever else you choose to do.

Wigeon · 08/03/2020 19:36

@Lynda07 - actually, you can go rigid and shake with a faint, and it’s not a seizure (this has happened to me on several occasions). It’s to do with heart pauses leading to a lack of oxygen to the brain (and I /my doctors know my heart pauses when I faint as I’ve had an internal heart monitor which records them). However, it’s impossible for us to know what happened to OP and whether it was a seizure or a faint.

Wigeon · 08/03/2020 19:39

@conduitoffortune - not necessarily. The rules around driving and fainting or seizures are a bit more complicated. You are required to notify DVLA about recurrent faints, but it’s not a dead cert that you will loose your licence. There is detailed info here on how they make their decision: here.

I have epilepsy & when I have a tonic clonic seizure I get very confused afterwards... definitely wouldnt be able to start a thread! And it's terrifying for someone to witness usually they call an ambulance in case you stop breathing!

I suspect OPs seizure wasn't epilepsy but it could've been something else serious & she should've definitely called 111.
Even too much alcohol can cause alcohol related seizures suggesting there are too many toxins in the body.

@Wigeon

Oh, that's interesting.... This happens to me when i vomit...

Maybe its the same kind of thing...
