Husband has NEVER seen them completely without makeup. Been together 11 years..

Main reason why is I have roscea, acne scars, awful redness and uneven skin.. I hate it and try and hide it as much as possible so I can honestly say he's never without even a bit of foundation on Blush

DD uses something called Kalme which is especially for rosacea. It's used by Emma with the trendy quiff, can't remember name, has caper berry extract in and made a huge difference to the redness.

Falcor40 · 06/03/2020 13:48

That's such a burden! To constantly be wearing make up and co scantly worries about it.

Men don't even notice. I rarely wear make up. Maybe once a week? I don't wear it on the school run. Nothing

I can't imagine ever having to be that worried about anything. To be fair. I'm the most relaxed person ever. I wouldn't of married my husband if he only wanted me to wear makeup

Falcor40 · 06/03/2020 13:50

I also look like I'm deathly unwell without makeup. I get a lot of. Oh my god. Are you ok?!?

I still don't care. I love the feeling of the fresh air on my face. I'm 40. But often get told I don't look 30!

Baxdream · 06/03/2020 14:00

@falcor40

I don't think this is the husbands fault. The op has skin problems and she is managing it by using makeup.

It's easy to go make up free with good skin but when you have bad skin, make up can sometimes be the only way you feel'normal'.

I used to have bad skin, not rosacea, but good skincare keeps mine in good condition and I am able to go make up free if I choose to. I am so grateful for my skin but I have to work for it.

Falcor40 · 06/03/2020 15:33

I have rosacea. So I totally understand.

LannieDuck · 06/03/2020 16:51

Soolantra is what I use too - prescribed it by hosp derm. My GP can't give repeat prescriptions because it's not on our CCG lists, so I buy it privately through an online pharmacy.

(But I agree with others that I wouldn't have ordered it online without it being prescribed to me by a doctor first.)

LovelyIssues · 06/03/2020 17:48

@lannieduck can you send me the link to order it please thank you

LovelyIssues · 06/03/2020 17:49

This is it @Baxdream the thing is now if I didn't wear it everyone round me would be horrified!!! Honestly I look like a burns victim. I don't even particularly cake the foundation on but I have to have it everyday

LannieDuck · 06/03/2020 17:51

Do a search for soolantra and online pharmacy and you’ll find it. The pharmacy will want to do a medical review so it’s it as easy as just ordering. And I would suggest discussing with a GP - they might prefer
, e.g. to try and antibiotic course first.

LannieDuck · 06/03/2020 17:52

*NOT as easy as just ordering

I really feel for you as I have suffered with chronic rosacea since my teens and for years It ruled my life , constantly checking my heavy duty concealer etc , watching what I ate/ drank.
My doctor referred me to the Red Cross years ago for a skin assessment, and I was able to get skin cream and high pigment concealer on prescription, which helped a lot.
I have found as I get older I worry less and less about what people think; and I believe most people will be kinder than you imagine, especially your husband.
It might be really freeing to just go for it and have a makeup free night, I’m sure he won’t worry about it anywhere near as much as you do.

LovelyIssues · 06/03/2020 19:06

Would anyone be brave enough to post a pic of their rosacea makeup free? Anything I see online looks so minimal compared to mine

OP posts:
littlestrawby · 06/03/2020 19:17

Oh I really feel for you. I have extremely dark circles under my eyes which I cover up every day. The last time my dad saw me make up free was when I was about 14, and he exclaimed that I looked like a ghoul - that sealed the deal for me! My husband has seen me without makeup when I take it off at night/ in the shower etc but I'd never leave the house without it and only a handful of others have seen me bare faced. If it helps, my husband honestly did not think anything at all of my makeup-free face. He mainly just gets sick of waiting for me to put my 'war paint' on before I'll go out anywhere Grin

TheVanguardSix · 06/03/2020 19:28

You may find this really, really useful, OP. There are different causes of rosacea, so the solution won't necessarily be one size fits all. But this could add insight and give you the courage you need to get your foot inside the door of a dermatologist.

That's really interesting thanks @thevanguardsix

@littlestrawby that's across one thing I have never suffered with - despite never getting much sleep Shock

PixieDustt · 06/03/2020 23:17

Tbh I couldn't be bothered with the faff of it all! You must have to think ahead if you always wear make up.
My partner has seen me in all sort of states 🥴 like it or lump it I say!

LovelyIssues · 07/03/2020 07:56

@Ginfordinner how would that happen Sad

OP posts:
TabbyMumz · 07/03/2020 08:02

Could this be why you have bad skin in the first place? Constantly covering it up and your face never sees the light of day. Honestly the young girls I know, their skin problems start when they start using all that rubbish on their face.

Ginfordinner · 07/03/2020 08:03

I have no idea. It was on the first page in my browser when I opened my laptop last night.

Thehop · 07/03/2020 08:04

I have terrible acne scars. I discovered micro needling rollers and they really are much better now.

I’m sure he would still think you were gorgeous

ScrapThatThen · 07/03/2020 08:08

I wonder if you could show him a photo first, and tell him that you would like to work towards sometimes being make up free at home. In fact tell him what you want first, and ask whether he can be supportive of it. Then photo if you think you can.

yatapina · 07/03/2020 08:14

@LovelyIssues sometimes threads in here get picked up by journalists who are either members or lurkers and turned into a story - clearly a slow news day!
