What 3 days would you pick to work part time?

I'm leaning towards Mon, Tue & Wed, as it would be nice to keep the weekend long.

But would it be better to break it up, have a day off midweek?

What pattern do you do if you are part time?

Mon Tues Wed , then you get a long holiday when there's a bank holiday!

wonkylegs · 05/03/2020 22:34

I work Tuesday to Thursday by that I mean that's when DS2 is at nursery because I'm self employed so work leaks into other days but that's my core hours.

It's a good combination and is fab for long weekends also I don't pay nursery fees for bank holidays as I don't use them on those days.

Littlebean0506 · 05/03/2020 22:35

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday is what I'll be doing next week when I return from maternity. I choose those days because Monday I do swimming lessons with my daughter and Friday because my partners, daughters 1st birthday and my birthday all fall on a Friday, plus its long weekend. My dad however works Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and really enjoys being able to have a break in the middle of the week.

Wotsitsarecheesy · 05/03/2020 22:35

I did Mon, Tue, Thurs for years. It was great. Work liked it because I was only ever off for one day at a time. I liked it because I only had to work 2 days before getting a break.

bruffin · 05/03/2020 22:37

With regarding working Monday it's not that you get less holiday, it's just you are more restricted to when you take

buzz91 · 05/03/2020 22:37

I work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. I like it because I don’t have to use annual leave to cover bank holidays like I would if I worked Mondays, in fact I get to choose random days to have a bank holiday instead! I get the 4 day weekend. And a lot of special toddler events (toddlers take over the museum etc) by me are always on Fridays, so we have the option to go to those.

Mummadeeze · 05/03/2020 22:41

I have never been part time but I would choose Mon, Weds and Fri so that I always knew I had the next day off!

SandyY2K · 05/03/2020 22:42

I used to work part time...3 days from Wednesday to Friday. It was great...I didn't get the sinking feeling on Sunday evening, but still got the great end of week Friday feeling. I loved it.

That was when my DC were in primary school....gone are the days now.

iolaus · 05/03/2020 22:42

If I had weekends off I would have time off in the middle of the week so you never have long before a day off

If I worked 4 days would have a Wednesday off. Working 3 days would probably work Mon, Tues and Thursday

mumstaxi2 · 05/03/2020 22:43

Currently doing Monday - Wednesday which I like - Wednesday night is my end of the week so always feel chilled. But about to move to a new job which will be Tues, - Thursday. Looking forward to still having lots of long weekends away without using any holiday. Shame will never benefit from bank holidays though. Smile

FlamingoQueen · 05/03/2020 22:43

Mon, Thurs, Fri. Work one day then basically have another weekend. Work 2 and then have the actual weekend.

cherish123 · 05/03/2020 22:44

I work Tuesday to Thursday but would rather do Monday to Wednesday. If I did m-w I would have to pay days back because of bank holidays.

RAOK · 05/03/2020 22:47

I’m going to do either Mon, Tue, Thurs or Tue, Wed, Thurs. I can see pros and cons of both.

Icecreamdiva · 05/03/2020 22:48

I did Tues, Weds, Thursday. It was great. Every weekend was a long weekend.

Friendsofmine · 05/03/2020 22:48

I agree having done lots of combos Tuesday to Thursday was best for me. Lots more flexibility.

People asking why you aren't working full time is so odd to me.

Fluffymulletstyle · 05/03/2020 22:48

I've worked a few varieties:

M,Tu,Th worked well for a while. Good to get most of your working week done at the start and by Tuesday night you get a breather then just one day until the weekend.

Tu, Th, Fr not working Mondays is a winner for me. No Sunday night feeling and avoid what in my job is the most stressful, miserable day. Didn't like the way the week was stacked towards the end though. I felt like that played on my mind on the weds.

Tu, weds, Fri. This is quite nice. Fridays are relaxed and everyone has that Friday feeling. Most of the week is done beginning to midweek.

I would personally look at what you will be doing with your days off. Is there something in you would like to attend? Some places close on a Monday like museums, cafes, shops etc. Do you have friends with certain days off?

lyralalala · 05/03/2020 22:56

A question about bank holidays. I used to work mon-thu. At the request of my boss I swapped to Tue-Fri. I've now realised that I will lose out on public holidays. Should that be accounted for by giving me more annual leave?

You should get a pro-rata amount of bank holidays added to your holidays.

This is why it's much better if part-time leave is accounted for in hours.

Ineedcoffee2345 · 05/03/2020 23:03

I work tuesday Wednesday and Thursday 10am-3.30pm perfect working hours for me and my young family

TurquoiseDress · 05/03/2020 23:05

Ah Tuesday Wednesday Thursday would be the dream!!

Long weekends every weekend Smile

BBCONEANDTWO · 05/03/2020 23:05

I'd do Wed-Friday - would love to get every Mon and Tues off. Friday is usually a good day at work anyway 'cos everyone's looking forward tot he weekend.

DecemberSnow · 05/03/2020 23:05

Think i would go towards Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 05/03/2020 23:08

I do four days, with a Wednesday off. It works brilliantly. I only ever work two days on the trot, and I love my midweek day off. I have a lie in, do appointments like eyebrows, hair, dentist etc, often meet a friend for lunch or coffee, cook something really lovely for dinner that can be reheated later, and try to make time for an afternoon bath. Sometimes I go to the cinema by myself in the afternoon if there’s something I fancy that DP wouldn’t be interested in.

Gin4thewin · 05/03/2020 23:13

Im doing monday and Wednesday 1700 to 0130 and friday 1900 to 0500. Just so ive got enough time to catch back up on sleep x

pigoons · 05/03/2020 23:15

I was unable to do 'Tue, Wed, Thur' as so many people want this pattern. I ended up doing Wed-Fri. I like it - 4 days off and then Friday is always nicer as the full timers are always in a good mood because of the weekend.

VanGoghsDog · 05/03/2020 23:19

I used to do Wed, Thu, Fri week one, Mon, Tue, Wed week two - so an extra long weekend every other week.

I commuted to London so I worked at home one of the Wed and it meant I only had to buy a weekly train ticket every two weeks.
