To think that some Mumsnetters hate men?

Am I being unreasonable to think that some (not all) mumsnetters hate men and can’t wait to jump in and tell women to leave their husbands?

Obviously there are a lot of stories on here about husbands/boyfriends/dads that sound like arseholes but the amount of comments I see from strangers telling women to leave their men for making a mistake is crazy!!

OP posts:

Some mumsnetters may hate men - when they do they often have good reason to.

But for the vast majority it’s borne out of seeing women continue to get a raw deal; in relationships, in the workplace, in society generally, because our society structurally favours men over women for many many reasons.

A lot of the way this plays out in our supposed “post feminist” society is through men exercising power in the domestic sphere, leveraging their often superior earning power to do less domestic and child related labour for example. Women often feel that they get a raw deal but they can’t disturb the status quo because of children.

A lot of the LTB comments are responses to a poster expressing frustration that her male partner is not negotiating fairly and the LTB is an attempt to point out that the woman is being short- changed. It’s not to do with hating the man it’s to do with empowering the woman to feel that she does not have to accept poor treatment from a man purely because they have children.

I don’t think hate comes into it. It’s about cutting through the patriarchal bullshit that leaves women feeling they have to tolerate it.

Because some men are twats, or abusive, or degenerates it doesn't mean that all are. How does the behaviour of some arseholes justify you treating a man coming here needing help like something you've scraped off the bottom of your shoe?

I’ve never treated a man like that, but thanks for the judgement, maybe you hate women? Because if that kind of comment was made towards a man on here, the poster would be labelled a man hater. Doesn’t take much.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 05/03/2020 17:33

Really Angels?

I judge individuals. I don't care if you are a man or a woman. Your individual behaviour is what I will judge you on. I don't judge people based on their sex, race, religion or anything else and I cannot fathom anyone who does.

ItsAllTheDramaMickIJustLoveIt · 05/03/2020 17:37

I only really see LTB on threads when the man being discussed is being abusive/a bad father/a cheat/a massive cocklodger. I don’t count any of those things as “mistakes”.

I admit I hate some men. Like my abusive ex for example. I love and adore others like my partner and my dad and others. To say that some people on here “hate all men” because they seem quick to say LTB is unfair and tbh a bit immature of you.

Nope, you just judged me on what you decided my behaviour would be. You suggested I treat men like something I scraped off my shoe because I posted about the hatred aimed at women by men.

WorraLiberty · 05/03/2020 17:38

This ^^ sums it up for me perfectly.

I can't fathom it and I can't fathom why there are so many people willing to make excuses for people like that.

WorraLiberty · 05/03/2020 17:40

To say that some people on here “hate all men” because they seem quick to say LTB is unfair and tbh a bit immature of you.

And yet at least 2 people have admitted it on this thread.

Well almost 2 because one of them said something along the lines of "My close ones are ok, it's all the others", which again is something said by racists who happen to like one or two BAME people in their lives.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 05/03/2020 17:42

Worra comparing being wary of men for the reasons posters have provided, to racism is pretty offensive.

WhatKatyDidNot · 05/03/2020 17:42

I think some Mumsnetters "hate" abusive men. Good on them. I agree.

AngelsSins · 05/03/2020 17:44

Agree, it really is offensive.

slashlover · 05/03/2020 17:45

Man has a bank account woman has no access to - Controlling, hiding something, it's family money.

Woman has a bank account man has no access to - Protecting herself, needs a back up, sensible.

Woman has male friend - acceptable.

Man has female friend - He's OBVIOUSLY sleeping with her

Furcoatgirl · 05/03/2020 17:47

How can anyone compare calling men out for poor behaviour to racism?

Since when have men been been a marginalised group? Have men as a group been historically bought as slaves? Banned from shops buses and eating establishment? Have men as a group been discriminated against or victims of prejudice from the police?

Hingeandbracket · 05/03/2020 17:48

accidentally sticking their penis in another woman

Grin
Fannia · 05/03/2020 17:52

The thing is LTB is so often good advice, that's why you see it so much.

TerrorWig · 05/03/2020 17:54

Who cares if some women hate some men?

No one gives a shit (apart from some women Hmm or so it may seem) that so many men seem to hate women.

Alsohuman · 05/03/2020 17:54

*I think a lot of people on here hate people full stop. Some are so quick to jump down the posters neck, they must be exhausting to be around in real life.

FWIW I don’t think it’s a true representative of real life. Most people I meet are much kinder*

Very true. The level of aggression emanating from some posts is genuinely shocking.

AngelsSins

I didn't accuse you of anything.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 05/03/2020 17:56

comparing being wary of men for the reasons posters have provided, to racism is pretty offensive.

Can you explain what the difference is then?

Namechangexyz1 · 05/03/2020 17:57

Most hate other women more.

h3av3n · 05/03/2020 17:58

Caring about women means hating men..? Just because someone thinks a woman deserves better it doesn't mean they must hate men

h3av3n · 05/03/2020 17:58

Women will never hate men as much as men despise women.... ever.

AngelsSins · 05/03/2020 18:00

I didn't accuse you of anything

So you quoted my post and then talked about treating men like crap by accident?! Whatever.
.

The day I see women issuing death threats to men just for having an opinion, sexually assaulting men in huge numbers, killing 2 men a week in domestic violence cases, making huge amounts of porn around the humiliation and pain of men etc, is the day I start worrying about man hating women.

IrmaFayLear · 05/03/2020 18:00

There are some bloody maniacs on here. No wonder they row with everyone on every forum. I look around at the men I know and I can't think of any abusive arseholes. Thoughtless idiots sometimes, sure, but then aren't we all?

Do I like all men and every man I've encountered? No way. I've met horrible sexist men, frightening male strangers, manspreaders, entitled men... But you can't possibly judge half the human race on the behaviour of a few. That would just be ridiculous.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 05/03/2020 18:00

How can anyone compare calling men out for poor behaviour to racism?

Absolutely no one has said that.

Calling a man out for his behaviour is perfectly reasonable.

Deciding that everyone who is male is responsible for that behaviour is wrong.

Saying that all black people are...is wrong.
Saying that all women are...is wrong.

So why isn't saying all men are...also wrong?
