To ask would you rather move house at 9 months pregnant or with a newborn?

We have to wait till September to move house (150 miles north) as we’ll pay a lower early repayment charge on our fixed rate mortgage and I’m due at the end of that month. But we also have to move before Jan 2021 (the deadline for DD’s school application) so we’ve either got to move when I’m 9 months pregnant or with 1/2 month old.

pregnant

I would move before the baby arrived.

They make things unnecessarily complicated.

Pregnant

While you are still in one piece.

Tattooedmama · 04/03/2020 11:10

I moved at 32 weeks pregnant and so glad i did, i ended up having a c section and i also breastfed so moving with a newborn and recovering from surgery would have been awful

Thunderblunder · 04/03/2020 11:12

I've moved at 7 months pregnant and with an 11 day old.
It was much easier with a newborn.

ayvasili · 04/03/2020 11:13

Another one for moving pregnant-I was 36 weeks, and baby came two weeks later. It would have been much harder to move with a newborn as he was constantly attached to my chest.

WaitrosesCheapestVodka · 04/03/2020 11:13

I moved with a 3mo. It was really hard work.

Heavily pregnant would have been fine. I'd have appreciated the distraction!

DropYourSword · 04/03/2020 11:13

Pregnant. I couldn’t imagine moving with my newborn. I could barely function as it was!!

Notajogger · 04/03/2020 11:13

Pregnant hands down!

Newtcase · 04/03/2020 11:18

Definitely pregnant! I moved with a newborn. Horrific!

Pilot12 · 04/03/2020 11:21

Pregnant, newborns want to be held and fed 24/7 so you'd just have to sit and shout out orders, you wouldn't be able to help much with unpacking etc.

Flutteringsatlast · 04/03/2020 11:21

Pregnant..
Sounds cheesy but all your memories will be in one place!!

JonnyPocketRocket · 04/03/2020 11:22

Pregnant. 100%. We moved while I was 7 months pregnant and then again with a 2-month old. I thought it was difficult doing it pregnant until I tried doing it with a Velcro baby 😓
Pregnant, the only thing you can't do is really heavy lifting. With a baby, you're sleep deprived and emotional, AND constantly stopping to feed, change a nappy, etc. Plus they often want to be held 24/7 for the first couple months so it's virtually impossible to do anything remotely manual - although a sling can help a little with this.
The best solution IMO is pay packers to do it all for you! Our finances have never allowed this but it's the dream!

Anthia · 04/03/2020 11:23

I had similar situation..huge move in terms of distance and had choice of move just before baby due or just after.

I'm so glad we opted for before. We were just about all sorted when baby arrived. Not easy moving when heavily pg but we got the removal company to do the packing and we survived!

Pregnant

Another vote for moving while pregnant.

In your scenario I think you're only considering a straight forward birth, which is the highest liklihood but if you end up having a section (or any other complications for that matter) it could royally stuff up your plans. Also the baby could be early or late too... Then you'll be thoroughly out of action not to mention looking after a new born.

Plus a 150 mile drive is going to take... 3 hours or more? So you'll almost definitely have to do a stop off to do baby related things en route if you have a newborn. Plus 3 hours in a car after a section or with post natal stitches... ouch.

Christmadtree · 04/03/2020 11:28

Pregnant. You'll likely still have some nesting energy at that point and likely not to be as sore or as uncomfortable as after birth.

Newborns are unpredictable and relentless in terms of your time and energy, plus you'll feel better coming home and being somewhat settled.

Merrz · 04/03/2020 11:28

Definitely pregnant

maa1992 · 04/03/2020 11:28

Pregnant, 100%

Littlebluetruck · 04/03/2020 11:29

Move when you’re pregnant.

I moved home when I was 8 months pregnant. When DS got here, I couldn’t do much of anything.

ChipsAreLife · 04/03/2020 11:30

I moved at 36 weeks. Paid a removal company who packed everything up and put all furniture up at other end. Best money I've ever spent

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 04/03/2020 11:31

pregnant, you are less tired.

Nothing is worst than moving with toddlers, so either way you'll be fine.
Paying someone to pack and move is money well spent.

TurnOnItsHead · 04/03/2020 11:32

We moved house with 3 week old DS. It wasn’t ideal and absolutely did complicate things. Myself, DH, my DP’s and DB were sorting the move whilst elderly MiL looked after DS - although I had to keep stopping to breastfeed.
We survived, but why make your life harder?

7dayslater · 04/03/2020 11:33

I moved 3 weeks before DS due date!

It was fine.
