To ask would you rather move house at 9 months pregnant or with a newborn?

We have to wait till September to move house (150 miles north) as we’ll pay a lower early repayment charge on our fixed rate mortgage and I’m due at the end of that month. But we also have to move before Jan 2021 (the deadline for DD’s school application) so we’ve either got to move when I’m 9 months pregnant or with 1/2 month old.
WWYD?

Do you have a house to sell in order to move? If so you'd never be able to judge it? Aim to move as soon as you can afford.

OneTooManyBathtimes · 04/03/2020 11:34

I did this. Was due 9th Sept, moved in 28th Aug. Definitely better doing it pregnant coz I'd have been able to do nothing with a newborn. Also kept me occupied instead of being impatient about still being pregnant

Pentium85 · 04/03/2020 11:34

Pregnant

lakeswimmer · 04/03/2020 11:34

I tried to move when I was pregnant but there was a delay and ended up moving when baby was 10 days old.

The friends who came to help us (who didn't have children) turned up at the house and said "why haven't you finished packing?!" I pointed out that I'd spent seven of the last 10 days in hospital and had a newborn permanently attached to my breast and so wasn't getting much done Grin

Branleuse · 04/03/2020 11:34

pregnant. I moved house in late pregnancy and it was fine

Limpshade · 04/03/2020 11:35

I did move house at 9 months pregnant (with a toddler in tow). I was building flat pack furniture in early stages of labour Grin Would still do it again rather than moving with a newborn!

jackparlabane · 04/03/2020 11:37

Pregnant - if you do end up going into labour you won't give a shit about any other problems!

Yummymummy2020 · 04/03/2020 11:38

Pregnant with plenty of help if you can get it! Moving is a pain in the ass at the best of time’s but I’d say it’s worse With a new baby!

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 04/03/2020 11:38

Pregnant. My mum had to do both (into quarters when 8 and half months pregnant and then into their new house when I was around 7 weeks old) and said that the first was considerably easier.

BrendasUmbrella · 04/03/2020 11:38

9 months pregnant. You'll not only have a tiny baby who needs a lot of care exactly when they need it, but you may also have an unsympathetic element around you who wonder why you can't move boxes and assemble furniture while also being a 24 hour baby care factory and recovering from the birth.

Azure83 · 04/03/2020 11:39

Pregnant and pay someone to pack up the whole house for you.

Pollaidh · 04/03/2020 11:39

I'd probably go for pregnant. Everything is so much harder once the baby arrives. Agree that paying for packers is essential and surprisingly cheap.

DesLynamsMoustache · 04/03/2020 11:41

Pregnant, especially as you have another child. A newborn and younger child to wrangle will be much harder than just the younger child alone.

Crunchymum · 04/03/2020 11:43

I moved at 8 months + toddler. Was a hassle but preferable to moving with a newborn + toddler.

Crunchymum · 04/03/2020 11:44

Although depends on how close to EDD you'll be moving.

You could make plans, go into labour early and still end up moving with a newborn!

bumblingalonghappily · 04/03/2020 11:45

100% pregnant. Without a single doubt.

AlmostAlwyn · 04/03/2020 11:47

Depends on how much help you have! I moved when my baby was about a week old. I had nothing to do with the packing and unpacking, I was just feeding the baby! But at the same time, I didn't know where anything was Grin

tmh88 · 04/03/2020 11:56

I moved with a 4 month old. Not gonna lie it was absolute hell! Do it while pregnant.

tmh88 · 04/03/2020 11:57

Mind it was only really hell as the estate agent we bought our house off lost the keys so we had to move all the furniture into the garden of the new house on the completion day.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 04/03/2020 11:58

Definitely pregnant.

You don't know exactly when baby will arrive or if you'll have any complication.

8by8 · 04/03/2020 11:59

Pregnant. Definitely.

We moved with DS1 when he was 1 week old and it was horrific.

Interrupted my recovery, and the breastfeeding, and we couldn’t find any of the baby stuff, and I didn’t know the new area and got really isolated and developed PND.

Stupidest thing we ever did tbh.

Knittedfairies · 04/03/2020 12:00

Whilst pregnant; you have a better chance of sleep after moving day.

Isthistrueor · 04/03/2020 12:00

We moved when I was 32 weeks so not quite 9 months but still heavily pregnant, I’d always choose to do it when pregnant than with the stress of a newborn!

NichyNoo · 04/03/2020 12:01

I moved house (and indeed country) with a 3 month old who had been hospitalised after birth. It was a nightmare.

PumpkinP · 04/03/2020 12:02

Pregnant. No brainer really
