To ask would you rather move house at 9 months pregnant or with a newborn?

We have to wait till September to move house (150 miles north) as we’ll pay a lower early repayment charge on our fixed rate mortgage and I’m due at the end of that month. But we also have to move before Jan 2021 (the deadline for DD’s school application) so we’ve either got to move when I’m 9 months pregnant or with 1/2 month old.

Pregnant!

Aliceinwanderland · 04/03/2020 19:23

Pregnant. With newborns even getting to the shops was an effort.

Cornettoninja · 04/03/2020 19:25

You’d cope with moving with a newborn if you had to but if there is any way to avoid it do it while your pregnant definitely.

FortheloveofJames · 04/03/2020 19:28

Pregnant 1000%.

We moved literally only 5 mins round the corner when I was 34 weeks pregnant. Even though I obviously did not do any lifting or actually moving but the stress alone, then along with being heavily pregnant/nauseous/exhausted/sore hips/prone to bouts of rage Grin etc, meant it was so much bloody hassle. However, when I gave birth to DD I gave birth to a demon colic baby and I can’t even imagine how hard it would have been to sort an entire house with her exorcism crying.

Pregnant every time.

I did it at 36 weeks pregnant. It was fine, I couldn't do any heavy lifting but could do way more than if we'd had a tiny baby.

firstimemamma · 04/03/2020 19:33

Pregnant.

Even then it is still risky though e.g. if the baby is early.

Tunnocks34 · 04/03/2020 19:33

Pregnant.

HomerSimpsonSmilingPolitely · 04/03/2020 19:33

Pregnant would be easier

Ponoka7 · 04/03/2020 19:34

Yep, pregnant.

ToastyFingers · 04/03/2020 19:48

Pregnant. I've moved at about 25 week (so not heavily pregnant but still limited wrt lifting heavy stuff) and with a 8 week old, who needed feeding roughly every 2 hours. I'd choose pregnant any day.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 04/03/2020 20:00

Pregnant, I moved at 36 weeks, DP and parents did all the moving while I made lists and internet shopped! Just prioritise getting booked in and checked at a new GP and hospital- I had to push to get things sorted.

TurquoiseDress · 04/03/2020 20:10

Being pregnant seems better

Thinking back to the early weeks & months, could not have imagined doing something like move house!

BeBraveAndBeKind · 04/03/2020 20:32

Pregnant every time.

Have you asked your mortgage advisor if your mortgage company would let you port your existing mortgage to another property? We did this last time we moved and saved ourselves the early repayment charges. You could start looking to move earlier then.

QueSera · 04/03/2020 20:34

Definitely pregnant

ChanklyBore · 04/03/2020 20:37

Standing out from the crowd, but newborn hands down.

Newborns are light years easier than being pregnant for me.

MrsJBaptiste · 04/03/2020 20:39

Pregnant as I'd want the house to be neat and tidy for when the baby comes!

Lauren83 · 04/03/2020 20:44

Newborn for me too!

Monkeynuts18 · 04/03/2020 21:10

Pregnant, in my opinion.

But you’ll survive either way!

MTGGamer · 04/03/2020 21:12

We moved with a 3 week old, it wasn't horrendous but we had lots of people on hand to assist. I helped while little man was sleeping, and everyone took turns for cuddles. He also gave my DF, who is waiting for a knee replacement, a reason to sit down and take a break, so he wouldn't do too much.
I also had SPD in latter pregnancy so I would have been completely unfit to move while pregnant

Solasum · 04/03/2020 21:25

I moved at 32 weeks which meant was all settled in by the time the baby arrived at 38weeks. I wouldn’t plan to move after 36 weeks, just in case it comes early. Once baby is a month old you would at least be mostly back to normal body wise. So pre 36 weeks or after 4 weeks old

Claireshh · 04/03/2020 21:29

We moved when my daughter was six weeks old. I reckon it was easier than moving when heavily pregnant. I’d had an emergency c section and an infection in my scar and honestly it was fine. I got organised for the move before the birth. I found a newborn easier than late pregnancy!

feeona123 · 04/03/2020 21:31

Pregnant....can’t you port your mortgage?
(Sorry haven’t read whole thread)

happymummy12345 · 04/03/2020 21:33

We moved when I was 7 months pregnant. I'd hate moving with a newborn.
